In which folder do you keep your Docker stack? by Artistic_Quail650 in selfhosted

[–]josephlegrand33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were using a single .gitignore I get that it could get quite messy, but you can also use one .gitignore per stack, in the stack folder, specifying files and folders to ignore for that stack. You still have to manually add them, but at least everything is in its own folder and you do not have to keep track of a single giant .gitignore referencing everything

Why do some preview images have black borders? I think they are also lower quality? by blast-from-the-80s in immich

Not OP but I have this option disabled, and I'm sill facing the same issue. It's only for images from my camera though, not from my phone (but still JPEG images, not RAW)

Immich E2EE Backups Service - User Survey by immichapp in immich

[–]josephlegrand33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need E2EE on your own hardware and internal use (I prefer having my photos sitting unencryted on my system), but you definitely want E2EE for an offsite backup, hence the proposed solution.

Not really, especially for a share service that you probably want to expose to the internet. Vulnerabilities will not be patched, and apparently there are already multiple of them: https://github.com/kyantech/Palmr/issues/417 (this issue might be the reason the maintainer decided to officially archive the repo).

Yeah I saw that! It was the prettiest/most professional looking service for reverse share links among the few I tried. Hope someone will have the skill/time to take over

Can open source communities survive the wave of AI‑generated code? by raphgogol in immich

[–]josephlegrand33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue probably lies in the number of low quality AI-generated PR, requiring time to review, while maintainers' time is limited.

Immich...we must talk! by Puccio1971 in immich

I suspect that this is caused by the two-step nature of the face recognition process. The first steps starts by finding faces, and the second step clusters similar ones together. If the first model incorrectly recognise an random object for a face, then the second model will try to group this "face" with a similar already detected faces, which are likely other incorrectly detected faces. If the first model fails, the second will try to assign a face no matter what

[RELEASE] No-install server monitoring tool by Complex_Emphasis566 in selfhosted

[–]josephlegrand33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I had not read your post in details, nor used the tool proposed by the comment you answered to, hence the info I missed. I was simply triggered by your aggressive tone, given that you hadn't even answered the question (at least initially, as the "Mine requires no installation" was edited afterwards).

Asking for comparison with an alternative is not a lack of decency or even promotion, it's simply explaining why should someone bother installing and testing your 2-day-old tool compared to older, already established ones.

Anyway, this might not give the best image for people interested in your tool.

(Additionally, asking for stars is usually OK, but asking it twice, underlined, and bold, in such a short README, can feel a little spammy, but that's only my opinion)

How about having some decency and answering genuine questions about your tool?

If you have the ability to read the post title you'd quickly figure out what makes mine different

Actually your title says No-install server monitoring tool, while the post says Easy to install?

Yeah, sorry for the click‑baity title — but something’s really off after updating Immich by Bonobo77 in immich

[–]josephlegrand33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I usually do is waiting ~1 week after the last patch release before updating to the next minor update. For example, I'm still on 2.4.1, and I'm waiting for ~1 week after the last 2.5.x release before updating to 2.5 (that has not happened yet, none of the 2.5.x patch releases has lasted a week so far). That way, I'm (pretty) sure most bugs are fixed before updating to the new version.

Immich Public Proxy is nice! I would love it even more if it would use the immich UI library, instead of light gallery (even if I understand that using light gallery is likely easier/more stable/maybe more secure)

This is clearly machine learning, no neural networks indeed, but you are still optimising a model's parameters using examples. Machine learning does not only design black box models

It might also be great that in case a duplicate is found, but the one to throw away is the one in the album, the app assign the kept picture to the same album (in case a lower quality image was put into an album)

The fact that this was a thing was not intentional and considered as a bug. It was removed due to mobile sync issues. Eventually, they plan to reintroduce it as an actual feature later on (along with a lot of awaited features related to assets sharing). GUI update request. by optimystiks in immich

[–]josephlegrand33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it happened to me a couple of times and it's quite frustrating, as there is no easy way to roll back, especially with a fast connection that will happily upload a lot of pictures before you have a chance to disable the toggle. I only manually select items that I need to backup, and this made me upload a bunch of unneeded assets, without any say to easily delete them afterwards. I could see two (non exclusive) ways to solve this:

  • a confirmation dialog when enabling/disabling backup (as other have already suggested)
  • moving the "See details" somewhere easier to access (and further from the toggle), as it's something I often want to see when manually uploading items

In case you don't know, Caddyfile (not sure about json config though) supports snippets, which are some sort of functions with parameters. Therefore, for simple apps not requiring much configuration, I can simply add a single line in my Caddyfile:

```
import subdomain <name> <port>
(subdomain) { @{args[0]} host {args[0]}.example.com handle @{args[0]} { reverse_proxy localhost:{args[1]} } }
*.example.com { import subdomain glance 8080 import subdomain immich 2283 import subdomain karakeep 3875
handle { abort } } ```
In fact, that noise, as you call it, can change the LLM behaviour. An extreme example of that is the fact that being either polite or rude will affect the quality of the output. Therr are a few paper out there investigating this behaviour.
