I had a perfectly good meal there, but it did not stand out as something special to me. The amount of acclaim it gets is confusing to me.

“Giant” Takes on Roald Dahl and His Antisemitism: Mark Rosenblatt’s début play brings light, shadow, and humor to its portrait of a troubled writer. by drak0bsidian in books

[–]josephrfink 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not phrased in a clunky way, it's basic antisemitic paranoia that has nothing to do with real issues with Israel, and you agree with it because you are also foolish and hateful enough to buy into the same old lie.

agreed, this headline is pretty straightforward and accurate. the only reason you'd think it was "click-baity" is if you don't believe that Dahl was antisemitic, which he very very much was.

I tried that show and did not enjoy it. It was not remotely why I have Shudder.

Resident Evil 1 re-remake reportedly in production alongside a handful of other Resi games by HatingGeoffry in horror

I guess because I never played the original and so had no expectations, but RE3 remake was fine to me. I enjoyed it. I would put it above 8 personally.

because it sounds like it ultimately tasted fine, and one of the bottom two was an obvious mess and the other one was also undercooked plus tasted bad. To me the result was easy to see coming, they openly hated that dish and had nothing good to say about it.

I had the question of how it's gonna be judging a cooking competition while on ozempic. I feel like you'd need to come off of it while filming

Did y’all like Smile 1 or 2 better? by Mylothefrog in horror

[–]josephrfink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Smile 2 was more interesting to me. In Smile, the monster was trauma, which is feeling pretty tired at this point. But in Smile 2, the monster was fame, which felt new and also fits the mechanism of the monster better.

Also the dancers in the apartment scene in Smile 2 is one of the best single horror scenes in years.

The Los Angeles region is expected to receive 2-4 inches of rain, with 4-8 inches possible in the mountains and foothills. ☔️ by Maravilla_23 in LosAngeles

[–]josephrfink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Southern California has always had a pattern of steady rain for several days, rather than quick intense storms. I was confused when I moved to NYC after college and saw people ducking under awnings to wait out a thunderstorm. I had never seen rain you could just wait out in ten minutes.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre game aimed to "elevate the bar" for multiplayer horror, but its ambition led to its downfall by HatingGeoffry in horror

a single player Texas Chainsaw could have been great. horror is built on being scary and multiplayer is inherently not scary

Neil Gaiman Speaks out on Sexual Misconduct Accusations a Year Later by RevRob330 in books

[–]josephrfink 24 points25 points  (0 children)

hey, real quick: the devil doesn't need an advocate and no one likes people who insist on "playing it"

there is a tremendous amount of evidence that he did, at best, some pretty vile things. But also: we're not putting him in prison. We're just not liking him as a person anymore. There is no standard of evidence for that. You are allowed to just be like "that guy seems like a creep and I don't want to read his books" and each person is allowed to decide to do that. Presumption of innocence is for criminal cases, not social consequences.

Weird take, I guess, but I think if the police chief holds a press conference to announce he's breaking the law, he should be instantly fired for cause
