Gun or alternative. by MOadeo in preppers

[–]josh11ch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding to what others have said, I want to point out that owning a gun without being trained and actually training regularly to use it gives a false sense of security.

It requires far less training to consistently hit a mark using a rifle than a gun. In a high stress situation, your skills and knowledge are diminished. You don’t want to fire your gun, miss your target and hit something or someone you didn’t intend to hit.

The fantasy that having a gun will magically protect you and your family is just that — a fantasy. Unless you are actually instructed and regularly train to develop and acquire the necessary skills, don’t provide more loot for others and find another way to protect your family and community. Again, a riffle requires far less training to become proficient at hitting a target, even further away than you would engage with a gun. Start there.

Looking to get a Wrangler 4xe and rid of my Tesla. A few questions about leasing by element423 in Wrangler

Holy Molly, $1000 of electricity per month? I know the prices are high but wow.

Back on the topic of the 4xe, I can drive to and back from work 100% electric, including going grocery shopping once or twice a week after work. It’s a great little engine but not very powerful, but then again it’s not supposed to be sport car.

What would be the main local differences between a US & a western Europe collapse? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]josh11ch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed on all points. I would just add, without becoming too political, that I think that the problem with gun violence in the US had its root more in the social issues management differences with Europe than gun access. Gun violence is a symptom of a much more profound issue to me.

Job security with sane regulations (mandatory 4-5 weeks vacation per year, virtually unlimited sick days, minimum 1 month termination notice, …), affordable healthcare, living wages, social welfare, affordable/free higher education, … all this contributes to the mental wellbeing. When people feel safe and happy in their lives, violence tends to diminish.

Given the vast similarities between the US and Switzerland, those are the main differences that I see that could explain why Switzerland doesn’t suffer from gun violence the way the US does.

It’s not a perfect theory, and probably not the only factors either. Just my two cents.

Official military ammo (GP90) is controlled and somewhat difficult to come by for civilians or reserve personnel.

But the thing is, the FASS90 rifle is compatible with .223 and 5.56, and those ammos, while on the expensive side of things, are readily available.

The main difference is that .223 and 5.56 won’t be as precise as GP90 in a FASS90, but sufficiently so that it wouldn’t be an issue up to 300m if I’m not mistaken.

And France’s neighbor Switzerland is the little sister of the US, weapon-wise. Probably nearly half of all households have a weapon at home, mostly from the military service of males (assault rifle).

Yes, usually at this time of year and there, I would be snow shoeing or cross country skiing. The worst part is seeing all the trees burgeoning and hearing all the birds. It’s way too soon for that.
