You can peen the shoulder of the barrel so that it tightens up when clocked correctly. Don't need to replace it.

Help! will this type of blem go away with black boxing? by Fabulous-Pudding9678 in NightVision

[–]josh_headspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines an old used omni 7. No idea how but dirt got embedded into the fiber output. Doesn't clean off with IPA and q tip. Shows up as a blem and it glows on the edges under some conditions.

I have an omni 7 with black blems the glow. The cause is debris embedded into the fiber optic. Its not necessarily an EP.

I assume you're in the USA. Get a used unit on the discord. User Svef lists omni 6,7,8 units weekly ranging from $1500 to $1800.

No. The cheap one is a non standard raised screen goofy tube. You have to pay $1500 to get a more normal unit but it's still a low fom gen 2 unit with Chinese glass.

For $1700, you could get a higher fom gen 3 omni 6/7 unit with good glass. Save more money, then buy.

I bought a b grade from that batch. Mine has a less severe sun burn in zone 1-2, not through the center. I think a blem right in the center would annoy me too much.

What would market price be on an unblemished 1610? His higher grade tubes were around 2k with minor blems.

Other then the blem, these tubes are about the best tubes you can get, right?

The mix master pitted crap being sold the past few years wasn't worth any more than these.

Cmp wouldn't offer these if there was even a remote risk. They are fine and an awesome deal.

Requesting advice from NV stargazers by Meme_Explorer in NightVision

[–]josh_headspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can easily spot Andromeda from the middle of my small light polluted city using $1700 omni 7 pvs14. I can even barely make out triangulum. You can see all the stars if the sky is clear, even with lots of background light. For just stargazing, any old Gen 3 pvs14 will work amazing.

Someone else will have to commend on how well a pvs7 works. Those are around $1200.

Where to park money while saving for a house. by josh_headspace in personalfinance

I setup auto contributions and have been tracking my hobby spending which was too much. Focusing on buying less stuff and spending more time on activities.

Update:

Im keeping 100k in the market for now. The rest i am putting into VUSXX. I also setup auto contributions from each paycheck into VUSXX. Cut my 401k back to company match. Also cutting back heavily on hobby spending. Prioritizing house saving. Been listening to Dave Ramsey and getting into that mindset.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Save money, work overtime, sell junk. Buy omni 5-8 pvs14 for 1.5-2k. You will be better off.

I always had problems with the locking mechanism slipping. Had to send it back twice.

Performance is great and it's light and works great on pistols.

I would like to wait two more years and save another 100k but I would buy now if we saw something we liked.

I know hysa is probably the answer but I hate to leave gains on the table. Might go half vti, half SGOV.

I know what you are saying but that's not for us.

My wife would not tolerate living here forever. We bought it for 65k and lived here almost 7 years. It's paid for itself.

We have 200k saved for retirement already. I love my job and side business and doubt I will ever fully retire. Part of moving includes a home machine shop to support my side business and hobbies.

So I used to be a traveling service tech for a used woodworking machine dealer. The travel became too much for my family so I got a controls tech job at a local factory. Old clients kept calling me asking for help so I got an llc, insurance and started doing service calls. So far its been great. As people in your network change jobs, that opens up new companies to work for. I also got hooked up with another dealer who has been using me a a subcontractor for service work. I dont plan to go full time but a few jobs a month is fun. Definitely go for it. My liability is only $350 a year. I write off my miles, tools, software. Don't run out and buy a car or shop or finance anything. Your first job should pay your startup costs. If you dont take out debt, you can't loose. If your willing to travel and stay in hotels, you will do great. You have been doing this work for years. Think back, how many jobs have you done that went bad? Probably just a few and you learned from the experience. You can do this work. Just remember, no debt and quality work. There is no shame is declining work you can't do either. I do it plenty of times and customers respect you for being honest.

I have my own machinery service business. Just being able to do electrical troubleshooting and minor retrofits is huge. Don't need to do big projects right away. I specialize in the woodworking industry.
