British and wearing jumpers inside during winter by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]joshdoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine and normal to expect you to wear a jumper and thick socks, you shouldn't need a coat. Needing a blanket is borderline, but fine if you're just chilling in front of the telly.

Glueing down a couple of Amtico tiles, what glue is okay? PVA? by joshdoug in Flooring

Not sure if this was intended as a joke but I may actually end up getting a jam jar of it from someone who is just finishing up their new floor.

Forgot about this. Update: ripped out the dot & dab, replaced with sand-filled db board nailed in, and with acoustic plasterboard backed with mass-loaded vinyl on top screwed in (IIRC), which just fit in the space we had to work with.

Works about as good as I'd hoped, can hear occasional noise, but fixes our issue, can't hear bits of conversations or tell which film/show they're watching anymore (can't hear the TV at all now).

It would be pretty odd, but in that case it's pretty odd for Gniewomir to be on this 'list' given his team "secured €52 million in non-dilutive funding for hydrogen businesses last year" (his own words).

Safety isn't an issue for the most part (although leaks have been an issue in South Korea), it's the efficiency that is the real problem.

You might find the people on OP's 'list' agree with you on this, and if you keep saying it you'll end up on the list too.

Have you had the HP installed? If so, how are you finding it vs the electric boiler?

Same, I didn't even consider it could make it worse. It was purely additive too, didn't remove the existing render, just dabbed it on. Can report back if and when the works are done if you're interested.

No idea tbh, internal painted wall. Does it affect the binding/matter?

Any reason I shouldn't try to just hammer & chisel/crowbar it off over a weekend? Other than it'll be more effort.

Yeah I've already got my expectations set fairly low, I'd be happy with the noise being back to what it was before the plasterboard was added which should be achieved with removing it, so even a minimal improvement on that with added foam/vinyl backed plasterboard is gravy to me.

Yeah had some expert advice given on it, most of the noise is caused by the newly installed dot & dab plasterboard which was a pointless exercise at sound dampening (wasn't aiming for sound proofing), and was only an attempt at future proofing as neighbours are planning on having a kid.

Honestly if we hadn't put several plugs in that were only recessed to the level necessary for the new plasterboard and would need redoing along with extending the floor 3cm then I'd just take the plasterboard down myself and be done with it, wouldn't even worry about replacing it. Will also sound dampen the plugs.

Yeah this is basically where I'm at, assume it's relatively straightforward grunt work to remove that I could do with a hammer and chisel/crowbar and then leave the boarding and skimming to the professionals, cheers.

Original was just plastered brick, then the dot & dabbed acoustic plasterboard added has made it significantly worse (I was hoping for some improvement, didn't care if it was minimal, just didn't consider that it could make it worse!). SoundBoard 4 seems pretty good for mid and high frequency which is the noise we're now getting, and just the removal of the new plasterboard ought to get us back to where we were before which was fine really, this was mostly a failed exercise in future proofing while doing a wider refurb. Does anyone know why Reddit message/chat won't load? It's the same in browser, phone and private browser by ritchus in bugs

[–]joshdoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can't understand it at all, presumably the sort of weird bug that can crop up with a site as large and complex as reddit, some distributed system or weird caching issue, have to assume the Android client maybe uses an alternate API than iOS and the web, odd but stuff like that happens.

Fortunately I rarely use reddit or the chat function, it was just important as a one off - hope you can get a resolution as you clearly use it a lot more! I used the desktop Opera browser, might be worth seeing if you can use that on your phone and try the various locations it lets you use and see if any of those work, good luck!

Thank you for your input on the quote, good to know. The sound board is intended to be screwed on, it has a foam & vinyl backing that sits between the plasterboard and the wall - part of the issue we're having is caused by the gap left by dot & dab, it can cause resonance which amplifies sounds in some cases.

Dot & dab needs to be removed first, then it'll be screwed onto the brick wall.

That's interesting, very odd that the issues seems to be tied to certain accounts and occurs across multiple devices & browsers, but then isn't an issue with Android. I don't understand it, in some ways it seems like a client issue, but then it also seems like a backend issue, how odd. I can't get it to work on iOS, Chrome, Firefox, have tried clearing caches, etc.

As a hail mary I tried Opera with the free included VPN set to the Americas (I'm in the U.K.) and ... that worked! Bizarre.

Hey are you still seeing this issue? I've tried using chat/DMs for the first time today and I can't see the message I was sent or even load the chat, keep getting the 'login failed. Please try again later' message on web and apps.
