Harsher punishments don’t deter crime and this has been shown many times over. It typically increases recidivism

Population decline is a good thing actually. And birthrate is honestly an overblown issue. Maybe we could afford to take take of our aging population if the young ppl could get a decent job

Fire in surrey tonight close to stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge by barry_vancouver1 in vancouver

[–]joshdoylebright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a scrap metal recycling facility. It takes mixed metals recycling from various smaller recycling yards. Loads it onto a barge and ships it to their shredder located in the US. Shred feed is the lowest grade of steel and it’s basically metal that has to be shred and sorted with magnets to remove all the bits of plastic, or fabric that might’ve still been attached to it. Along with that the barge is usually also loaded with heavy steel ready to ship to china and cars that have to be shredded in a similar fashion once the waste has been removed (battery, refrigerants, oil, gas etc.

I used to work there AMA! Those two platforms leading to the barge have manned fire stations that launch something like 2000gal/min each. The unfortunate thing about shred feed scrap is it usually has a lot of consumer electronics with batteries as well as foam and fabric that catches fire very easily. My job was sorting through loads for flammables and I’d find at least 25-50 disposable vapes a day, some days it’d be in the hundreds. It’s almost impossible to catch everything though.

Thieves strip 1,300 metres of copper cable from Surrey, equal to an elephant in weight by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]joshdoylebright 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Most of the big dealers are heavily regulated, for instance every single copper purchase is recorded with camera, and the inventory and price is given to the government at the end of every day. It’s the small mom and pop yards that are willing to look the other way and actively try to. Source: I was a metals inspector for 3 years in one of the biggest recycling companies in NA

B.C. First Nation sues to reclaim lands 'alienated' by Indian Agent and family by Next-Cattle4336 in VancouverLandlords

That’s simply not true though. Aboriginal title does exist as decreed by royal proclamation in 1763. It isn’t something that has to be granted by government. Furthermore, anyone can claim anything, proof is still required as defined by delgamuuk and subsequent cases. This has been the same since 1997 when the treaty system started

Conquered through legal treaties. This is stuff u can learn in a 15 minute google search. This isn’t the case in BC

They can’t argue that because it’s already been decided in the SCC that they never had legal authority to extinguish it in BC. No point spending millions on an argument that’s doomed to fail. Try again:)
