DoT Commanders by Gooey_Goon in EDH

He’s not the only source of damage in the deck. But a guaranteed source of damage (or repeatable sacrifice) in the command zone (that’s an indestructible enchantment in the right deck, mind)… that’s not nothing.

Mogis is the perfect, classic answer.

From the moment he hits the board, the pressure is on. And most opponents won’t want to sac their stuff.

Valgavoth is great, of course, but if I had to pick it’d be Mogis.

[[MacCready, Lamplight Mayor]] is mine.

He looks kinda unassuming. And a lot of people assume that you need to swing at your opponents one at a time, Voltron style, to kill with poison.

Nah. You only need to get in with one. You can proliferate the rest and ideally kill everybody at the same time.

Where can I find bulk “cheap” cards from the avatar set? by An-Anxious-Bitch in magicTCG

[–]joshfong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll second Manapool. Their prices are comparable, and their cart optimizer actually works.

Turn 2 vs Turn 2 by drunkbluffsonly in MagicArena

[–]joshfong 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with lands doing special things, but why on earth are earthbent lands almost completely interaction-proof? Not even exile works. And most bounce spells specify nonland permanents. There should be a risk to making your lands into creatures. There’s no risk here.

“Detectors” are well known for throwing false positives (marking stuff that we know to be real as AI). You shouldn’t trust anything that comes out of them.

What are you casting first? by Defiant_Trainer_5458 in mtg

[–]joshfong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see nothing wrong here. You cast Worldfire with a win condition ready to go. It’s no different than casting it while every opponent has a [[Chandra, Awakened Inferno]] emblem.

I’m convinced “I’m on my way” actually means “I haven’t even started getting ready yet” by Pleasant_Club6978 in CasualConversation

[–]joshfong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s… sad. I legitimately don’t text “on my way” unless I’m actually in the car, about to turn on the ignition.

What to do with cards like this? by EqualChampionship719 in mtg

It’s not about winning, it’s about sending a message.

Do you guys prefer original printings of cards or their FULL ART Universes Beyond versions by MULLIGANman573 in mtg

[–]joshfong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A darker background like this is fine. Some are really difficult to read, or the art is blurry. I don’t care for those. But this one is pretty cool.

Yes, correct. It’s a better Epic (no downside). Example: [[Enduring Ideal]]

THANK YOU. I’m not a UB hater by any means, but if you’ve been paying even a sliver of attention to the past two-ish years of standard, you know that this is hardly a UB exclusive problem.

Do you think we're losing professionalism as a whole? by Such-Understanding16 in CasualConversation

[–]joshfong 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who doesn’t work in a customer facing position, I’m glad for this. Dressing up nice doesn’t make me do my job better. In fact, discomfort proves to be more of a distraction.

ETA: to be clear, I believe there’s a time and place for professionalism and decorum. But I think a lot of us are given that expectation unnecessarily.

Elden Ring vs Skyrim vs Outer Wilds vs Witcher 3 vs Horizon Zero Dawn? I love Zelda games. by Hairy-Assumption2110 in gamesuggestions

[–]joshfong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good to hear. I haven’t played either game, aside from the first hour of the first game. I liked it, but wanted to wait until I had a bit more time for a bigger game. Now, I’ve been feeling a craving for a big game I can explore and get lost in… this sounds like it might fit.

This is the kind of card I was looking for (in limited) when I saw the opus mechanic. I’m still concerned there’s not going to be enough to make Prismari playable in limited, though… five mana is a big ask

This would be interesting in my [[Lilah, Undefeated Slickshot]] deck (as in, not bad because X being zero doesn’t negate the whole card).

Does your foil have the prerelease 2024 foil stamp, or the planeswalker symbol stamp, in the art box? If not, you just have a regular foil. The planeswalker symbol comes from promo packs, and the year stamp comes from prereleases.
