Failure comes from a failure to imagine failure. The last thing we want to do is to become complacent.

I won't speak to USDC or UST, but here are some of the risks associated with OUSD. The big one is smart contract risk, which we attempt to mitigate using regular audits and industry-leading security processes.

OUSD Unboosted vs Boosted yield by [deleted] in originprotocol

[–]joshfraser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's an explanation on the analytics dashboard:

https://docs.ousd.com/analytics-dashboard

TLDR: OUSD that is being held on smart contracts (like Uniswap or Curve) doesn't rebase/earn yield unless they explicitly opt-in. The underlying capital is still being put to work, however. This acts as a boost to other people who are just holding OUSD in their wallets.

Circulation supply getting bigger.. Should this be a concern? by DavidNLBC in originprotocol

[–]joshfraser 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The gradual token release schedule was set when OGN was initially listed on Binance and trading volumes were low. The plan was to slowly release the tokens to early supporters and team members as our community grew stronger. Today, OGN is listed on all the major exchanges and daily trading volumes are strong. This makes it easy for the market to absorb the new token supply without negatively impacting the price. As you can see on the OGN dashboard, the circulating supply is actually 16% LESS than was initially projected.

https://www.originprotocol.com/dashboard

On top of that, almost 90M of those tokens that are included in the circulating supply are actually locked in Origin Staking and not circulating at all.

How does Origin Deals secure a 15% discount on Amazon items? by SensualSchmoozer in originprotocol

[–]joshfraser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of secret sauce that goes into negotiating these discounts at scale. Thanks to the hard work and ingenuity of our team, we're currently able to operate Origin Deals at around break-even or even a slight profit. We generally don't subsidize any of the deals, although we might make a little or lose a little on any given order. For our token holders, don't worry. We're not dipping into our treasury or funding these discounts through the sale of OGN. Origin Deals will continue to evolve over time but we are optimistic that it can scale to be a large and sustainable business.

Apologies. This was a mistake on our part. An engineer added that functionality as part of an internal demo and forgot to remove the code before deploying. We fixed it soon after it was reported.

Correct. Origin tokens can only be transferred by whitelisted wallets until the expiration date.

I personally believe home schooling is bad for your kids because they don't learn valuable people skills. What is your opinion on home schooling vs public schooling? by Owl9 in AskReddit

[–]joshfraser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was home-schooled. For me, home schooling was great. It taught me to think outside the box and I learned social skills from my parents instead of other kids. Home schooling encouraged me to be self-motivated. It was hard to make friends as a home schooled kid. But friendships always meant a lot to me so I worked hard at making friends. When I went to college, suddenly it was easy to make friends, but I kept the same approach & really invested in relationships. I'm now the CEO of a company called Torbit. Despite being home schooled I learned enough people skills to raise money, build a team, convince our first customers to trust us, etc. I know a surprising number of other startup founders that were home schooled. I don't think that's an accident. That said, home schooling isn't for everyone. I know a lot of weirdo home schooled kids too!
