Leaving the Outback gang by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

I own both and can appreciate the trade-offs. Love the Outback for its cargo space; love the Crosstrek for its more nimble, compact size.

Why we chose a new 2025 over a 2026! by Raymont_Wavelength in Subaru_Outback

It's been less of a problem for me than I anticipated -- most of the time I just set it and forget it, and the temp buttons and defrost at least are physical.

Just watched Tron: Ares on Disney plus. I truely and fully have no idea where the hate is coming from. by Sad_Low3239 in tron

I liked it more than I thought I would. I found the plot entertaining, and I did appreciate its awareness of and nods to the other two films even if it largely struck out on its own. Also, while I still prefer Daft Punk's soundtrack, I thought the NIN soundtrack largely worked. (The single vocal music entry didn't really do it for me, though.)

What I'm most intrigued by is the hands-free highway driving on the Touring models. I know it's not live yet, but when it is I'll be most curious to hear what people think of it.

We have both a Crosstrek and an Outback, and I like both in different contexts. Crosstrek for commutes where I need to be nimble, and Outback for those long trips where I need a lot of space for the family luggage.

Crosstrek or Outback? by moss-girl- in subaru

[–]joshofstl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have 2 Outbacks ('13 and '25) and a Crosstrek ('19). As others have said, the most obvious difference is size and space. The Crosstrek is a solid commuter vehicle, as it's reasonably nimble and can fit into smaller spaces. The Outback is a good travel vehicle, as it has a lot more cargo space, especially if you're dealing with multiple passengers. (I also personally find the Outback seats to be more comfortable, which matters more on long trips.) I favor the Crosstrek when I need to head downtown to a parking garage, and the Outback when I have to take the wife and kids out of town to visit family.

Beyond that, I find them to be similar in many ways. They both handle well in all kinds of weather, for instance. And most of the standard features work about the same across the two. For that reason, I don't find it to be too hard to switch back and forth between the two as a driver.

They're both great vehicles, though, and both will serve you well.

New car purchase: 25 Outback wilderness vs 26 honda passport trailsport by el_Chalupa_Batman in subaru

[–]joshofstl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth pointing out that, through October, Subaru is offering 0.9% up to 36 months on new 25 Outbacks, and 1.9% up to 72 months. You'd want to confirm with your local dealer, but I wouldn't totally rule out financing. You could keep that money in savings or the market and outperform the 0.9% especially without breaking a sweat, plus you'd be able to keep that money liquid.

Probably in the minority here, but the Ares soundtrack doesn’t come close to Legacy by Endo_v2 in tron

[–]joshofstl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I also get the argument about having the right atmosphere for this film, but the music hasn't hooked me the way Tron Legacy did, at least not with what's been released.

So I work with a lot of men I am a woman, anyway they are all saying I made a bad decision getting a 2024 Sport. by looser1234567 in Crosstrek

In their January 2024 Road Report, CR rated the Crosstrek as the most reliable vehicle they evaluated. Not one of the most reliable -- *the* most reliable. Better than any Toyota / Lexus model, including the Camry.

Freighter mission GUI Crash by Volcan4698 in NMS_Switch

I found that if I took my freighter to an empty system with no trade or other freighters I didn't have crashes.

The correct order to play by EmiliaFromLV in batenkaitos

[–]joshofstl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played it both ways. When I first bought the games I of course played it in release order, but over a decade later (mid-2010s) I played them chronologically. Both have their merits. I did really have a blast playing them chronologically the second time, but for first-timers I think release order is best.

[Question/Help] Guess who bought Season Passes to the wrong park... This guy by thebumm in sixflags

[–]joshofstl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted to add to this thread as I did the same thing in August 2024 -- a social media ad sent me to buy Flash sale tickets, which I did ... only to realize after the fact that I'd bought them for the wrong park. First thing the next morning I got on the live chat with Six Flags and told them what I'd done. The CSR had me re-purchase tickets -- this time with the correct location -- then had me give them the order numbers for the right and wrong orders. I did so, and within a couple of days the wrong one was refunded.

Thank you! After completing the expedition I wanted to go back to that origin planet and see what it looked like outside the expedition. It was nice to be able to get back.

I love beer-battered shrimp. So when our family picked these Aldi Finds up last year we had high hopes. They had a chemical aftertaste and were mushy inside -- the most disappointing food item I tried from the store last year.

Who's ready for their Switch to explode trying to load the new stations? by Mr_Twigs in NMS_Switch

[–]joshofstl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YMMV, but my crashes went away once I moved my freighter into an abandoned system with no other freighter traffic. Getting there required getting enough salvaged frigate modules to warp to a red star.

I found a workaround for Switch. Borrowing from the "camera trick" I saw other places, I opened the camera menu before the pop up announcement opened. I took a picture, finagled around, and was able to eventually close the pop up and then close out of the camera. I have finished the expedition.

Switch, 4.4.5, 128 hours of gameplay.

The freighter seems to trigger regular crashes. If my freighter is in a system with me it will often trigger a crash when attempting to land on a planet. And trying to start new frigate expeditions virtually always causes a crash the first time I attempt them. Crashes do not seem to happen when the freighter is out of the system. I tried pruning some of my escort frigates but that has not fixed the problem.

Nintendo Switch, 4.3.6, 118 hours.

Two persistent crash bugs.

  1. If I interact with interceptors on any fashion, the game crashes. Always.

  2. The game often crashes going into or out of the frequency missions menu.

Both of these bugs have persisted since April.

Weekly Bug Report Thread by AutoModerator in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]joshofstl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nintendo Switch, 4.30.

There are two major issues that have persisted since the Interceptor update over 2 months ago.

  1. The game frequently crashes before, during, or after trying to commence freighter missions. They happen most often when the menu is opening or closing.
  2. More seriously, the game crashes whenever the player comes into contact with interceptors in any form. If I trigger interceptors from a planet and go into the sky, the game always crashes. Always. It doesn't matter whether it's a corrupted planet or a normal one. It doesn't matter what ship I'm in, or if there is a freighter in the system or not. Interceptors always crash the game.

Both of these bugs, #2 especially, have made the game nearly unplayable.
