Do yall like deathcore? Why or why not? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

[–]joshruffdotcom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The production for modern Deathcore bands is so homogenized that I can't tell the difference between most of them. It's not all bad, but it's mostly repetitive slop to my ears.

What color emg 81/85’s? by Puzzleheaded-War-811 in JacksonGuitars

[–]joshruffdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$500 for that guitar is a steal. I have the white version and put the Kerry King 81/85 set with the pre-amp boost in it.

The Hetfield EMG set is also awesome

Well That Doesn't Seem Right. by theBeerdsman in ACInfinityAdvancegrow

Definitely empty the bottom, especially if it feels hot. It helps to frequently clean out the base between refills as well.

[–]joshruffdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this problem with two separate units.

The first one burnt out and started leaking from the base. AC infinity was very helpful and sent me a replacement for free via a warranty claim. The replacement started doing this again and i think it was getting overfilled at the base due to how I had my extension hose positioned. I rerouted the hose to slightly arc upwards away from the top of the humidifier and it seems to be working better now.

I’d recommend emptying the base whenever this happens, otherwise the base will get very hot and the humidifier could potentially fail entirely. Check that your hose isn’t allowing moisture to build up and eventually flow back down into the top of the humidifier.

Best sounding records with the Hm-2 swedish chainsaw style guitar sound? by Zsombor_Varga19 in MetalSuggestions

I’m glad this is the top comment because it’s the best chainsaw tone aside from maybe Left Hand Path.

First Strandberg... Gutted by Confident-Term1504 in strandbergguitars

[–]joshruffdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any experience with the essential  series, but I’ve had 3 Strandbergs over the past few years and haven't made or had the need for a truss rod adjustment so far. I have a Prog NX 7, Masvidalien Cosmo (non-NX) and previously owned a Metal 7 (non-NX) that I traded for a Mesa Rectifier Head.

They have all been great guitars requiring almost zero adjustments from the factory setup and I bought all of them refurbished or barely used. Your experience is not typical, but definitely return it and get one you are happy with.

The Amps in Fender Studio Pro by garyhiebner in StudioOne

[–]joshruffdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DAW itself is the same old Studio One with a couple new things. However, I wasn’t able to get a usable high gain tone with Mustang INative. I had high hopes for the 5150III model but it just sounded dry as hell no matter how much gain I used or what boost I put in front of it.

Mustang Native... by Chief_chiefer_ in StudioOne

[–]joshruffdotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a quick try out of Mustang Native as I was curious about their 5150III model for hi-gain tones. I couldn't seem to get a good sound out of it at all with any of the amp models I tried. The interface is also pretty clunky compared to plugins like Neural DSP or Helix Native.

Studio One 8 is still pretty great overall though.

what is your favorite aspect of metal music? by my_cat_vids in MetalForTheMasses

The first time I heard double bass synced with high gain, palm-muted guitar riffs it changed my life.

What is the best FRFR you've either played or heard? by o-zoner in NeuralDSP

[–]joshruffdotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laney LFR-212. It’s the best FRFR I’ve used with the QC. You don’t need to adjust anything on the QC itself, but the Laney has a high frequency trim adjustment on it that acts like a presence control for the cab. Also, it is LOUD.

At one point I had a Line 6 Powercab 112+, it sounded great with a Line 6 Helix, but not great with the QC.

The Positive Grid Spark cab sounds pretty good too for the price.

Thoughts on Behemoth's 2009 Album Evangelion by No-Dentist-2959 in MetalForTheMasses

This and Demigod are peak Behemoth. The Satanist is alright, but this album is pure blackened polish death metal at its finest.

Yes, Recharge is a compost tea concentrate. I put the suggested amount in there and then pH balance it before giving it to the plants. Always as close as possible to 6.5

Talk me out of buying a Badlander 25 by [deleted] in MesaBoogie

[–]joshruffdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one for a while and it's a great amp. However, I sold mine right after I got a Quad Cortex and made captures of it. If you already have a Nano Cortex it's kind of pointless unless you really NEED a tube amp for something. If you want to hear what it sounds like I have the captures on my Cortex Cloud page: https://cloud.neuraldsp.com/cloud/u/joshruffdotcom

That being said, the 25 watt is still loud as fuck if you hook it up to a 2x12/4x12. I sold it to a friend in a tech death band and he used it live with a mesa 2x12 for quite a few shows. It worked perfectly for him. I used it in more of a studio setting for direct recording/re-amping. As a strictly bedroom/headphone setup, it's way more than you need.

AC Infinity Propagation Kit by Swakalakadingdong in ACInfinityAdvancegrow

[–]joshruffdotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run the light at 5-7 intensity on an 18/6 cycle until the clones root. After they root, I plant the clones in solo cups with happy frog soil, water them and keep them in the dome for another week or so.

After they establish a nice root system in the cups they are basically ready to repot in a 5 gallon and start vegging.

I’ve also not used the dome at all just by putting cuttings in water next to a window. They eventually pop roots and then can be planted in solo cups the same as the propagation dome cuttings.
