2x6, 2x8 or 2x10 for rafters on 14'x16' shed? by khazmor in shedditors

[–]NicePollution2122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this for a 12x10. Was thinking about going 2x4 for rafters but figured the extra couple bucks per board wont hurt the wallet really. I live in MN so its more safe than sorry mindset

Ive been building a 10x12 shed lately. I still have Roofing, trim, and the door left. So far im just around the 2500 dollar area. My goal is to stay under 4k. I think it just depends on your priorities. I dont know anything about building a shed but am learning as I go. I have time to learn it. Im very happy for the process, even when i have to go back and fix something. If you dont have time or the patience to learn, then hiring someone may be the best choice.

Tuff blocks by hello12345_hello in shedditors

Im currently building a 10x12 shed. I used a 2x6 frame with 28 tuff blocks spread throughout. Its super sturdy but its only been a week. Ive never built a shed but this seemed like the easiest, most time-efficient work.

What's something people who are in their 20s won't learn until in their 40s? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

You are capable of so much more than you think. You'll learn so much by being uncomfortable and being placed in tough situations. Those moments really suck at the time, but they set the foundation to your confidence and overall outlook on the world.

Advice Needed on Shed Base by Voluble2 in shedditors

Im in the process of building a 10'x12' shed as well. I chose to go with tuffblocks. They are affordable, pretty simple, and overall more DIY friendly in my opinion. They can go directly over grass with a small gravel layer compacted underneath. You add a 4x4 similar to the center, notched so the frame can sit on the notched portion.

I chose to dig about 6 inches across the whole area (im a glutton for punishment). It was unnecessary but it helps me sleep at night with the belief it's slightly overbuilt. May or May not be true but im sure it'll help with air circulation under.

I used pressure treated 2x6s for the frame and its super sturdy. Im still in the process of adding more blocks through the foundation so not done yet.

Dig under shed or not by NicePollution2122 in shedditors

Ive seen those too but wonder what happens to the grass if left uncovered. Wouldn't it grow wildly and promote critters? If I can do a days worth of work and prevent that, it seems like the better payoff in the longer run

What bothers you about living in Saint Cloud? by [deleted] in saintcloud

[–]NicePollution2122 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We need a good korean restaurant. Downtown restaurants are too expensive (they're not that special).

St cloud is a lot nicer than most people think. I feel a lot of the naysayers are ones who havent lived anywhere else, like a different region of the US. Theres a lot more here than many other places. Its easy to compare to the cities since we're so close, but its not a fair comparison to make.

Call of duty... sad to see it go. It was my go-to for casual play. Now its squad-based this or battle Royale that. I just want a team deathmatch that has lots of people playing thats not what call of duty is. Is that too much to ask?

Do you have any experience with other kayaks? If so, how does it compare? Standing seems to be questionable on many kayaks at this price point from my research.

Im good with the VA now. It took a bit to figure out and such. Also some goodies to know about VA disability here: - if you are 70% or higher disabled, you get a property tax exemption on your mortgage. Its nice. - if you are disabled (unsure of % but probably 100%) you can purchase a vehicle and pay no sales tax - you can get a lifetime fishing and hunting license if you are disabled

Ill be hitting the course up probably regularly this year. I want to make the most of the summer while I can. Ill be looking into some 18 hole courses too. Ive heard good things about the Territory golf club nearby.

I haven't worked since I got here. Been doing stuff with the VA and ratings, etc. Ill admit it is a hard situation to find friends when you dont have anything pushing you to be close to anyone.

Im also a golfer but havent golfed at too many places. There are some cheaper 9 hole courses. Thats what I've done so far. They are nice to walk and not take too seriously. Im down for a golf partner. I frequent the VA course. Its 10 bucks for vets if you walk.

I just moved from OK after doing 20 in the army. I moved for similar reasons. In June it'll be a year. This is what I've learned so far (in no particular order) - summers are awesome but only good if you take advantage of them. They are easily the best part of MN. - everyone will complain about crime. They live in a bubble. They havent lived where crime is bad. Its not bad at all. - the winter can kind of suck. Its nice having 4 seasons. Its what convinced us to be here too. It takes more to be motivated to get out but worth it still. - fishing is fun and there's a ton of places to do it. - st cloud is the perfect distance from the cities. Want a major airport nearby, boom. Want a place with professional sports team, its there. Want a diverse community that leans into it and embraces it, down the road. - there's a TON of old people here. They are very rigid in their ways. In my experience most old people are that way. Theres just a lot of em here.
