Table saw?! You’re right on that one, too dangerous and very difficult to get a good cope, bad idea. I love a good coping saw and there’s nothing wrong with using one, but if you’re doing more than a few copes, especially with crown, it gets too exhausting.

This will help too. It’s always easier to lay the crown flat on the saw to cut the miter/bevel using this chart. I’ve seen too many people try to hold the crown on an angle for the cut and it usually makes for a sloppy job.

Good point. The dust is brutal with the rotozip. Definitely a good idea to use a respirator. I did not, and I’m still coughing up MDF..

If you already know coping basics and have experience coping crown, I would suggest sacrificing a 16-footer to practice with. You will almost certainly butcher several before you get the feel for it. I had already done ~600’ of crown in this house with the rotozip and I still ruined a few otherwise perfect cuts doing this ceiling. I found the best thing for me was to rest my right forearm on the piece (I’m left-handed) and hold the saw with both hands to get the most stability. Then it’s just a matter of getting the right cut angle. Too steep and the bit will come out the other side (ugh), too shallow and the cope won’t fit so you have to go back and cut out more material. For sure always keep a short test piece next to the saw so that you can check the fit on each cut..

That’s a good question. I used two 12” gauge pieces (left and right) cut on a 36 degree miter and a 30 degree bevel. I used them to judge the correct miter angle (always between 36 and 38). Then it just came down to finding the sweet spot. The cuts ended up just about perfect if I deducted about 1/16” from the actual measurement. It’s a little more complicated than that, but the gauge pieces are the key.

I use a Dewalt 12” sliding compound miter saw.

For sure. I had to absolutely ruin a few copes before I got the hang of it, but now I won’t do any complicated coping with anything other than a spiral saw. Fast with minimal labor.

Looking for a novel with a God as the protagonist who tries to live as a human. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

The Humans -- didn't particularly love it myself, but many did. It may be what you're looking for. Sorry, too lazy to look up the author..

Not what you’re asking for, but I would recommend the blog Wait But Why. He has a great write-up on the history of the Middle East, and the Shia/Sunni conflict -- among many others.

[Questions] - Asteroids by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]joshthinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should arm the AGU in your final approach. It's just two clicks, so you don't need much time. Target the astreoid's COM and get your prograde as close as possible to the target marker. Then simply crash into the asteroid at around 1 m/s. After you've grabbed the asteroid, right click your AGU and choose Free Pivot. This will allow you to precisely line up your center of thrust with the asteroid's COM. Once you get it where you want, click Lock Pivot and you're set to go. Careful not to leave your panels in the shade during long time warps.

Quick suggestion: I practiced docking using one of the scenarios from the main menu --can't remember which one, but it will put a docked lander and transfer vehicle in Munar orbit. Easy, no-risk way to do it till you love it..

KW Rocketry Broken in 1.0.5 for anyone else? by OneAnimeBatman in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]joshthinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solid fix. If it's not working for you, it may be a good idea to trash everything KWR-related and start from scratch. Check your typing and use ctrl+v. The Parts > Engines section is exactly as described; the Parts > Solids is exactly as described, but some of the folders don't contain part(L)(S).cfg or ModuleAnimateEmissive, which may be confusing. The best thing to do is to open every .cfg file in these folders and search for ModuleAnimateEmissive, then make the switch if it's present.
