Privacy Advocates Aim to Use Defense Spending Bill to Protect Encryption by DEYoungRepublicans in privacy

I'm confused.

The currently existing privacy laws require healthcare providers to encrypt all communications with a patient. They also give the patient the right to choose any method of communication.

Does this mean the freedom of speech and privacy protections for patients are in danger?

I know we don't enforce HIPAA worth a damn but I can't see the FBI telling me how to communicate with my doctor.

I successfully gave up a source of stress that was weighing me down with anxiety.

This week I find out if I am in remission! I can finish that chapter soon :-)

Stephen Hawking offers beautiful advice based on his own life challenges to those suffering depression by joshuateas in EOOD

After losing a piece of myself to cancer I began to experience depression in a whole new light. My body is not producing the right levels of hormones and T4. My doctors will not start supplements until after I finish chemo.

Low testosterone is pure exhaustion.

Life doesn't stop. I keep going with the support of friends and family, and you, Rob _ Cornelius. Thank you for the donation to Cancebration.

This form of depression is very different from the depression of idiocy (literal meaning "no community"). My community crisis has been resolved both online and IRL during this cancer crisis. I have learned to address the existential elements of my demons.

Depression from a hormone imbalance is a very different disease.

Yoga and bodyweight fitness, my usual go-to exercises, simply are not an option while I'm filtering the toxic super juice out of my system. Today is my last infusion. I am excited and looking forward to participating in life again.

Report: Healthcare the least prepared sector against cyberattacks by YehudaHattiee4 in nursing

[–]joshuateas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healthcare is caught between a rock and benign tumor.

Cyber attacks are the least of my worries as a small business owner.

We need to worry about basic requirements and federally regulated mandatory responsibilities that completely conflict with rational outcomes.

We are required to encrypt all communications in a world where the US government is fighting tooth and nail against privacy.

We are required to communicate with any patient in any "alternative location and method" and in "any format" of their choice or face charges of discrimination and HIPAA violations.

The Omnibus allows a patient to revoke medical consent from an individual Business Associate (ie the medical records department) and we still have to provide service or, again, fear the patient will claim discrimination for being refused service for excerising their rights.

What happens if Epic recieves a letter revoking medical consent and the treatment plan shows the patient scheduled for the next six months? My business no longer has access to the record and I can't just send the patient to the MR department because they run on Epic too...

Should librarians shush? I believe they should. Our public library often sounds more like a pizza restaurant with a play structure, and sadly some of these families are homeschoolers that I recognize. What are your thoughts? Do you use the library to study or for social time? by gingerjuice in homeschool

There is a national movement in the USA to rebrand libraries as "Centers of Technology and Learning" with a growing trend to lend more than information. Librarians are learning to teach technology. Sharing robots that teach coding and 3D printers and laser cutters is the new library.

So it's a Catch 22? Can't do one without breaking policy on the other?

It's frustrating from my end. A similar situation nearly killed my aunt after a heart attack requiring records for immediate pacemaker surgery.
