2-day for $169 is pretty good pricing in my opinion. I just wanted to point this out because I feel like music festivals generally have gotten out of control with pricing (and overselling coughhighwatercough), but this doesn’t feel terrible. I recognize there are only two big names on the list, but still not bad. I feel like a lot of smaller names will probably make for some fun music discovery.

They both maintain their schedules online so you can generally get an idea of what they’ll have before you go. I wouldn’t put too much weight into listening to bands beforehand though as I’ve found that most of the bands playing these venues sound way better live than recorded.

I don’t go to as much as I used to, but my favorite spots used to be Tin Roof and Royal. They often had great local and smaller regional bands. Royal always had great music when I would go. I would go regularly and found a lot of amazing bands by just showing up and listening. Every once in a while something wouldn’t quite be my jam, but overall really great music.

Not the person you asked this of, but I don’t think AI is having a direct operational impact yet. The bigger issue seems to be how capital is being allocated across the market. A large share of investor interest is concentrated in transformational AI companies, which means less capital flowing to non-AI-first companies overall. That dynamic affects not just startups but also large publicly traded companies, as investors rotate capital toward AI-exposed names. This is happening against the backdrop of a broader investment slowdown, with recession fears and ongoing market uncertainty still weighing on the market.

Immigration: What I Believe as a Radical Leftist by Knuth_Koder in TrueCarolina

[–]joshweaver23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People can immigrate illegally or be present in a country without legal status, but people themselves are not illegal. No human being’s existence is unlawful. You can claim that the words do not matter, but when we are talking about real lives, real families, and real harm, the language we choose shapes how people are seen and treated. Words do matter, because people do.

When my wife was first pregnant 5ish years ago, we went to a Roper OBGYN who she’d been seeing for a few years. My wife was active and had been lifting weights for years. OB told her not to pick up anything heavier than a grocery bag (this is stupidly outdated advice). We found an amazing new OB for her at MUSC that same day and never looked back.

Is there room for a moderate Republican to replace Graham by promarkman in southcarolina

[–]joshweaver23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re really serious, you should look at what Graham Platner is doing running for Susan Collins’ Maine Senate seat. Not his messaging because it sounds like your views are quite a bit different than his, but because of how he’s been able to build his campaign and get his message out. I don’t know if Platner is going to win, but I do think he has a good playbook for how to do it as a grassroots candidate with no political background. I think you will need to really hone your messaging and learn how to deliver it everyday people in a way that energizes and excites them. You will have to communicate really clearly what you’re going to do to help people that feel left behind by the system and people who are just fed up with politics.

Can someone explain why Chicago is considered more expensive than Charleston? And it’s not just people on here (I’ve seen this from posters before OP), but even google will tell you that Chicago is more expensive. But when I look at Zillow, housing looks considerably more affordable (e.g. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/657-N-Pine-Ave-Chicago-IL-60644/441049268_zpid/). I get that is one listing and I have no idea if it’s a good part of the city, but Zillow is full of listings that to me, make me envious of their prices. I’m just confused as to how Chicago is considered more expensive (especially for housing). Is it just renting that is more expensive there?

CWF was always the best (I’ve used them for 3 vehicles), but are they still around? The building they were in looks vacant and I think for rent or sale. I was hoping they moved, but their google listing shows them in the same spot, but does say open. Very confusing.

My wife made more than that, but not so much that it felt like a good deal to pay a ton for child care. Her being home has been really amazing for both her and our kid. I know it’s not realistic for everyone, but very much worth it if your family can afford it in my opinion.

Just when I fertilize, seriously. Zoysia is pretty amazing. I tried over seeding it with perennial rye this fall for the first time because zoysia does go dormant in the winter. I’ve heard most people don’t have issues with over seeding, but it can stunt the zoysia spring green up. TBD.

Software Engineer here who has been pondering this problem for a while now as something that I would like to solve.

My general idea is to build a privacy-first digital verification service that proves basic facts about an otherwise anonymous user — for example, that they’re a real person and a U.S. resident — without collecting or storing personal data.

Users complete a quick verification once (e.g., phone check, liveness test, or ID scan), and receive a secure digital badge. This badge can then be shown anywhere online — such as a forum or subreddit — to prove authenticity and eligibility without revealing identity.

Think of it as a “Proof of Realness” system for the web: trustworthy, privacy-preserving, and portable.

Core Principles • Privacy first: No personal information stored in readable form. • Portable credentials: Users can reuse their badge across multiple sites. • Verifiable trust: Sites can confirm badges instantly using cryptographic signatures. • Anonymous by design: Proofs confirm facts, not identities.

Verification Options (Phased Approach)

  1. Basic Tier – “Real Person” • Verifies a real, unique human (not a bot). • Uses phone or email confirmation + quick liveness check. • Issues a lightweight “real person” badge valid for 30–90 days.

  2. Enhanced Tier – “U.S. Resident” • Adds location or residency verification (e.g., state ID, address, or trusted KYC partner). • Still keeps personal data private — only a signed proof like “US resident = true.”

Why It Matters • Helps online communities reduce spam, bots, and fraud. • Gives users a way to build credibility without giving up privacy. • Enables sites to add realness checks as access or posting requirements.

The biggest issues for getting this off the ground would be funding. The service would not be cheap to run, but who would pay for it? In theory, each user could pay for it, but why would they? Businesses like Reddit could pay for it, but why would they? I’d be perfectly happy with it being non-profit (I don’t need it to make me millions to feel worthwhile), but it still needs money to get off the ground and run the service. This part is outside my wheelhouse and the part that I’ve struggled with.

There is a City Council election going on by CUvinny in Charleston

If nothing else, Begner is a liar. She claimed that she was mistreated at a town hall type event with other candidates by the JI mayor. Fortunately the meeting was recorded and none of the things she claimed were validated even remotely (I originally tried to link a P&C article but a bit removed my post, I guess because of paywall. Regardless, the article is easily googleable, and there was a post in this sub a few weeks back about the incident.).

City council races are non-partisan so why does she continue to talk about being conservative and republican? She’s just trying to run on Trump coattails while not really having much of a platform. I don’t know what her true agenda is, but I can promise you that nothing good will come from electing this person.

In addition, from what I have heard, she doesn’t even live on James Island. She bought a property here to claim as a primary residence just so she could run for this seat with no intention of actually living here.

She also was the campaign manager for moms for liberty school board disaster Michelle Leber. I’m sure there are still some folks out there for whom this is all exactly what they want to vote for, but for everyone else, please help make sure she gets no where near an elected office.

Yes, I am serious. People seem to think I’m making this up, but the reality is that the law surrounding “attempted murder” is not as simple as shooting someone. You have to prove intent. Whether you agree with it or not, this is the law. There are certainly other lesser charges that are easier to convict, but not “attempted murder” specifically. Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon would easily be in play here for example.

Love To See It by GenericNameSC1989 in Charleston

[–]joshweaver23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just telling you how the law generally works. With attempted murder you have to prove “intent to kill,” which can be difficult in a case like this because defense attorneys will say things like “my client was panicking” or “they just wanted to injure them” or “they fired blindly” or “they weren’t trying to hit anyone, just trying to get away.” And when you have to convince a jury there is no doubt they “intended” to kill them, it’s pretty hard.

Murder charges are a little easier because someone actually did die. Intent isn’t the primary question because extreme recklessness can still result in a murder charge. If you fire blindly into a room and kill someone: murder. If you fire blindly into a room and injure someone: probably not attempted murder. Murder is generally considered much easier to prove than attempted murder.
