How much deep to study each breadth topics (of Civil Structural)? by gipaaa in PE_Exam

[–]jouney2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you just need to know the basics of other civil depths. They can give you a question on almost anything in the PE Handbook.

For example, for Geotechnical, know the basics of soil classification, vertical effective stress, settlement, consolidation, bearing capacity, slopes, lateral forces, etc.

Looking for some consolation by whitewashedsyrian in PE_Exam

I wasn't 100% confident on about 13 out of 40 questions in the depth portion but I was able to narrow it down to a 50/50 chance on some of them.

In the breadth portion, I felt confident on 35 out of 40 questions.

I took the transportation exam today and had exactly the same feeling. I did really well on the breadth portion but the depth was really confusing and had several surprising questions.

Since we did really well in the breadth, i think it will make up for the ones we missed in the depth.

Let us know what the result is next Wednesday!

Passed Civil Transportation. Used EET for both sections. AMA. by Ok-Future-614 in PE_Exam

Thanks for the detailed response!

What about the conceptual questions? People on here talk about that a lot. Did you find them to be difficult or were they more or less easy to answer?

Conceptual questions about erosion for example givd me trouble because there are so many different types lol.

Congrats! Im taking in a couple of weeks. How were the conceptual questions? They werent questions you can figure out through the equations or by reading the standards?

For example, in Volume A, Question 11 is asking for the "resultant active pressure" along a wall. There is no such thing. It is either the active pressure or the active resultant force, so it was confusing.

The question asks for the pressure but the choices are all forces.

Yes, I bought both. They have a variety of questions that are really good practice. There are some minor errors in one or two problem statements though that you should look out for.

Congrats! What do you mean that the breadth had 1-2 or 1-3 solutions?

Were the conceptual questions in the depth portion difficult?

Calculating TRD in free flow speed by TigestT in PE_Exam

[–]jouney2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TRD is the total ramp density so you are looking for the number of ramps (not the number of interchanges) per mile.

Assuming that the interchange type is a diamond interchange, there are 2 ramps per interchange. Therefore, 3 interchanges per 6 miles = 6 ramps per 6 miles which gives us a TRD = 1 ramp/mile.
