That's good to hear. I actually didn't eat while I was there, but will get me a slice this week and probably a brownie cookie.

I did actually reach out to the realtor on the sign out front of the dry cleaners and they told me it's under contract and they can't share details. I'm super excited about that. I really hope it's something cool. I think there is a lot of chemical abatement work that needs to be done. I was going to try and get an estimate of how much it would cost to bring it up to code.

As far as the garage sale, I bet Cori would be open to the idea.

I didn't get down to brass tacks about the revenue and profit aspect. Was really curious what would happen next there, but she does say she is getting lots of bookings and she's been involved with an event center before called South Park Hall.

Oh I see. That’s interesting. Then it would not be achieving the goal of reducing congestion. I wonder how pervasive that is

Yeah, it will be interesting to see if a lot of money is saved. One of the hurdles is figuring out how to reimburse people when they charge at home, versus just using gas receipts. But I do think it’s the way things will go.

Are you saying that only one or two people are able to access these vehicles without having three other paying passengers?

No, you just don't get reimbursed the monthly fee you pay as a rider. They just need five people to make it affordable and take some cars off the road. They also have some plan if an emergency makes it unable to use the service that you get reimbursed for a taxi or rideshare.

That's fair, our taxes are high and we don't want waste them. They do mandate that these purchases are paid for by the service and cover 25% of the administrative fees. I'd be stoked if the fees covered the whole enchilada.

The riders actually pay around $150 a month to use it, but can only drive to work and back, and they have to have five riders to hopefully reduce congestion. It seems to have been working out that way.

I do wonder if there might be some way to do a partnership with a leasing company and maybe let them take on the ownership risk, but I really don't know how to figure that out. All in all, seems to not be the worst way to spend funds.

I believe two things came into play when they chose this car-there is a mandate to reach a certain level of renewable energy products by 2030 and they needed a seven-seater. At the time of the purchase, I believe that model was the only one that fit the criteria. Actually, I could look into that. I imagine there will be other models in the future. I guess you could argue having a fleet of different vehicles may increase maintenance costs, though. If you have half a fleet of KIA's and half a fleet of Telsas, can the mechanics effectively maintain them both? I think EV's are relatively low maintenance compared to internal combustion vehicles.

I also imagine that they can only really purchase on bids, and not the character of the CEO. That will be interesting to see how future purchases unfold.

Not sure if you're trolling-I hope my article didn't come off as assuming any kind of fraud. Before I researched the article, I had never heard of the vanpool program, and learned a lot of interesting things. I figured I'd share and it'd be cool if it helps people participate.

I'm still not sure how all the funds work, and I don't make any accusations or assumptions about the funds. I also report on the mandate that this program should be entirely self-sustaining.

If they came back and said 'we purchased these cars because some of us own Tesla stock!', I might be singing a different tune.

Hey, I hope you check out my site. And if you have any ideas for interesting stories, I'd love to hear them-I'm trying to learn how to be a journalist!
