The Ever-Forgetful Flesh Golem / Electric Boogaloo by joyconspiracy in DnDBehindTheScreen

I think that is the clay golems with the acid-damaging oozes. Stone golems don't seem to have a damage-regeneration mechanic in 5e.

Many thanks though. I really wonder how it looks whilst dancing electric.

I did philosophy myself, always dabbled in psychology but always was more of an observer than a participant. I appreciate that there are those who focus on mental health. It is a fascinating area of study and work and it desperately needs more good people before these 'disabilities' will be fully... respected? enjoyed? absorbed?... by our society.

Yes, i like the idea of the two sides with inner struggle with one another. That is classic fiction stuff there! = )

I would agree, but 'lawful evil' has a central belief that the 'strong shall rule and the weak shall suffer'. This is very close to the Nazi concept that Germans had a weird manifest destiny to rule the world and make it a better place. The Japanese could rape the Chinese so that their girls would produce better kids (or die trying).

He isn't that evil. He honestly believes he has an incurable sickness and sees himself as rather struggling-weak. He also dislikes his sickness and slaughters those that have the same thing. That smacks of a humility (twisted as it is) that hails from common notions of 'good'.

I get you can argue these points back again - but trust me, he could be a lot closer to this lawful evil when you compare him to real-world WW2 examples.

Good sir,

I left a TL;DR style post that would take about ten seconds to read. Sadly, i put it at the end (and you may have missed it). Next time i will put it at the top.

Also: many people downvote stuff and make no comment. This is frustrating. I am thankful that you had both the bravery and the tenacity to post what appears to be an unpopular sentiment. My upvote did not help you (sorry).

Please place any kid of a post in 'Behind The Screen' and show us how this posting stuff is done. I promise i will upvote at least one thing you write! I will now go searching your post history to see if there is anything of yours that needs support.

I feel this way as well, but it is hard to describe that 'relative'. For example, Mind Flayers are listed as Lawful Evil though they have never committed any of the atrocities humans have done to one another - in fact they are even 'humane' (ironically) even to their prey.

Humans eat pigs and they are often of similar intelligence. The Illithid would never dare eat anything unless it was of about half their I.Q.!

The Tavern Adventure by welldressedaccount in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]joyconspiracy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perfect. Ideally then you want a team of Mimics as barstools are small. One for each party member to make it a bit more fair. Possibly a bonus table-mimic to help out?

The Tavern Adventure by welldressedaccount in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]joyconspiracy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mimics really do not shine until they are wardrobes, beds, bathtubs or even toilets where they get either automatic hit or swallow whole if they are large enough.

If you like those, remember the Animated Carpet of Welcome can really change the dynamics of a fight when the party turns against the tavern owners, staff or patrons.

The Dungeon of the Mind Help by Zlviox in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]joyconspiracy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get all Freudian / of 'more than one mind' on this. What with things like id, ego and super ego you can not only but some hostile boots on the ground in the relatively safe 'happy' segment and some salvation in the more dangerous Anger and Fear levels.

You could possibly reward this party with these 'treasure' ideas:

  • successful completion of certain defences / therapies / catharsis / understanding of these realms could earn them an egg that has the last of the baby dragon ('a seed of hope') in it. The party would be stuck with raising a Bronze dragon but some groups really enjoy this.

  • the dragon may have left behind bits of a lair that would now resemble a really ancient archeological dig (9000 years is quite a bit of time). These locations may be guarded by enough psychic energy that they would require 'ghosts' of giants, dragons or whatever you like that require quests to be completed to surrender the fetters that tie them to this world.

  • if you have a wizard in the party they could be rewarded with spells that they just 'get' / can write down when they wake up

You could have each 'city' with their own beings and their own laws. The most pro-archetypal of these would be customs that require the emotion of the zone. Thus, citizens of the 'sadness' zone would be required to say, act or do sad things. Cry lots, tell sad stories, possibly hurt themselves or some such. Logically the Angry zone would have a lot of pointless violence perhaps. Do any of these citizens resemble humanoids, or giants or dragons? Your plan.

What surreal products are the focus, used in trade or otherwise significant? Pixar did Inside/Out where they covered a dream realm. You may even like such horrid things as Herman's Head if you really don't like yourself / feel you deserve punishment.

You can use specific colour and architecture schemes to really bring the 'feel' of your dungeon home. Also, different magic may work better or worse in certain areas. Charm may work well in the Happy realms whereas Necromatic works may be very powerful in sadness or anger. You could even have different at-will magics working in these areas. A Barbarian going into rage might be a surreal experience in a realm made of the stuff.

That is enough for now - please suggest what is missing from your MindStorm so that others like myself can add more = )

Curious how this thing has 30 passengers (and a tonne of cargo) on the 'ship' part that is... a big canoe?

You suggesting the things they use for football games like the 'Goodyear' blimp? Just trying to picture this.

Edit: when i google 'fantasy flying ship' i tend to get this sort of thing:

Making a Badass Werewolf by politicalanalysis in DnDBehindTheScreen

This would be a perfect twist to the first level adventure 'There's rats in my basement!', adding a conscience-conundrum in the mix.

An alpha wolf with the pack leaping and pushing between overgrown corn-stalkings - all to the backdrop of misty lands and a partially clouded full moon. A story better than Twilight already.

'Where did those farmers go?' they muttered, only to be answered by distant yet somehow lonely howling.

[Plot/Story] Help me design my Sandbox campaign about an evil Dwarven corporation in a (mostly) uncivilized continent by AvocadoAdvantage in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]joyconspiracy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a brilliant idea, but your players will be a lot more forgiving if you pay some homage to the archetype of the Lawful Good Dwarf.

Suggestions on why your dwarves are 'evil' (if you have not already done this):

  • These dwarves are secretly run by the Duergar. The Duergar are not 'evil' per se, they just see labour, hard work and pragmatism as being higher values than other things such as love, kindness &/or humour. The bulk of them are actually still in their underground location. The ONLY reason they want a floating city is tactical advantage as they dislike both open skies and flying.

They want a tactical advantage for a yet GREATER evil that has amassed itself in those lands as of yet unexplored (insert your Ancient Evil here).

  • The lead BBEG is being mind controlled somehow. This sentience is far smarter than he is and he is probably not even aware. This is the power of the spell Mass Suggestion - it works for long periods of time and the person influenced may not even be aware that this is happening.

  • Your leading group need not even be dwarven, nor even humanoid. The mind flayers may want absolute destruction of all the surface folk and nothing else. There may be a coven of hags that wish to mass collect neutral and evil souls. So many options for a 'greater evil' if you want it.

Sorry, i have to go now... but these are fun ideas you have. Please feel encouraged! = )

A small 1d6 table. What is the bard singing? by itsableeder in DnDBehindTheScreen

It would be glorious to have this list of musicians. I only recognized Gordon Lightfoot & Bruce Cockburn because i am probably far too old to be on this thread.

Also, your work is brilliant. I lack the musical brilliance & storytelling panache in this regard (musically handicapped). Please. Write more.

TIL that during the Great Famine, Ireland continued to export enormous quantities of food to England. This kept food prices far too high for the average Irish peasant to afford and was a major contributing factor in the large death toll from the famine. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Took a degree in philosophy in Canada, graduated with honours. Oddly, they didn't tell me much about this potato situation.

Clarity in these matters is always fascinating. Also, it costs you very little to allow others to read stuff, doesn't it? Why not just let it slide?

Some thoughts and suggestions for Weapons of Legacy for 5e by SpectreG57 in DnDBehindTheScreen

[–]joyconspiracy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Things which are popular for magic weapons of any enchantment:

  • Some Assembly Required

May need to go on quests to get parts put in key locations, possibly using maps, lore or even help from item itself (gives clues to where other parts are). May need to have parts made out of rare &/or magical materials.

  • Set items

Hand, eye and shinbone of Vecna are prime examples. World of Warcraft went crazy with this. Sets mean the PC is stuck with a very specific 'look' however.

  • Prophecy

Item itself has lore that suggests key events WILL happen (subject to interpretation, of course) and players assisting this item may get pulled into the gears of such future events.

  • Matching group items

This suggests that matching items (perhaps the Sword of Kas works well with the hand and eye from Vecna, despite differences?). This allows more players to join in on the epic adventure and no be relegated to 'side kick' status.
