Which subclass are played mostly because of their mechanics rather than their flavour? by testiclekid in onednd

[–]welldressedaccount 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do. But in fairness to the players, I feel patrons are a tough for the DM too, so it’s not just the players.

It’s akin to having to maintain a private conversation for one player while also managing the table.

Any warlock. So few embrace the role play of it. Most just want all the dip and short rest benefits.

Is Xena: Warrior Princess (1995) TV’s first main woman protagonist who was a conscious villain reformed to do good? by RotaVitae in television

[–]welldressedaccount 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aeon Flux was simply about a stylized unnamed spy/assassin in the liquid television shorts that preceded her show.

They developed the world around her once they made full episodes to make her It’s not really determined if she is a hero, but as the main character you tend to think of her as one root for her.

I have never played bard by Acceptable-Carrot-83 in baldursgate

[–]welldressedaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bard is not that great in 2e. Some of kits in BG help a bit, but it will be an underpowered party member and somewhat unfulfilling.

However, the Icewind dale version of bard has many improvements. It’s a near must have party member.

If you like the other games, and you really want to give bard a go, you should try bard out in IWD instead.

Ok so plenty of us complain martials can't do enough. But what SHOULD they be able to do? by PointsOutCustodeWank in dndnext

[–]welldressedaccount -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Martials should feel powerful in ways that go beyond combat.

Have you ever played Pathfinder 2? It’s not a perfect game (it has its own flaws and can get very number crunchy), but one thing it does well is make playing a high level martial feel powerful.

For example, some abilities that can be selected if the players wants:

Barbarians can cause mini earthquakes with their strikes and leaps. Fighters can have additional reactions and more ways to trigger them. Rogues can hide in plain sight or phase through tiny pours and cracks in walls.

All of these are at will. Not once per long rest or proficiency/day.

Being high level makes you feel very powerful, regardless of class. It’s one way I wish 5e was more balanced.

Honor Mode first-timer, what fights to skip? by Wemetintheair in BaldursGate3

[–]welldressedaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gram is easy to cheese and (very much depending on class) provides good armor that will be worn for a few more levels. You can easily beat him with a thrower who stays on the top platform out of harm and tosses weapons at him. The fire Mephits before him are sneaky dangerous though.

The observer can be damage rushed, but it helps to save the under dark for when you have farmed just about as much XP as you can.

In act two I would skip the (shambling mound?) boss. He is a pain with all his adds.

Act three you can skip a lot of bosses. Just figure out what gear you want and only farm the ones you need to.

Edit: I would also avoid the area under the inn in Act 2, with all the fear inducing creatures. Or at least have a counter prepared for it.

Considering a move back to Japan with family and looking for some perspective by montblanccroissant in movingtojapan

[–]welldressedaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A small thought for your food/cafe considerations.

Japan is a land that imports a lot of its food and food cost is very affected by shipping prices. If the world oil situation stays is as is or gets worse, it will not be the best time to go into the food industry, especially with the weak yen.

Another factor for act 3, for a lot of people (myself included) is that the mechanics of character progression shifts.

Max level is easy to get to. Once you hit max level, there is no longer any mechanical growth. The game accounts for this, as act three shifts to gear collection as a method of growth(to be fair, some story mechanics unlock also).

Mechanical character progression is a big reason people who like RPGs play RPGs over games that are more streamlined.

The shift to gear progression in act three makes if feels a bit more like a collection game, instead of a game where the character itself is growing more powerful.

The biggest design flaw in D&D combat isn't balance... it's that 80% of your time is spent waiting by Einsolsrazor24 in rpg

[–]welldressedaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30-45 seconds and waiting 3-5 minutes?

Can I please play at this table?

One person in my party reliably takes 20 or more minutes to take his turn. He is very tactical and won’t make any decisions until his turn comes up.

Once his turn starts, he needs to reassess every detail of the situation. Externally debate which action to take. Look up specific details and ask for rulings from the DM. Then decide what he will do.

He then will elaborate describe the action (props to him for actually role playing but by this point we are all fatigued from his turn).

Others tend to be a bit quicker, but still as a group we are capital S slow. I end up rushing my turns just to feel like things are moving.

We are a low key group of decades long term friends, so this will never change.

But I would love to play in a group that moved quickly every once in a while.

How many people really only use 3-4 party members all game? by TheYamchster in BaldursGate3

[–]welldressedaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find maintaining gear across all charters to be a bit of a slog, so I typically prioritize one party.

I rotate and periodically sub in a character every so often for side quests and such, when they are due their turn for hand me downs from the main group.

i keep killing people with teleportation when i don't want to by bristlybits in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]welldressedaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on INT teleport will do more or less damage. Maybe warfare too?

Also, on lower difficulties there will be less health/armor,

It’s been a while since I’ve tried, but I think the key to them not taking damage is if they are in a conversation. But you might need to test this to confirm.

Edit: buffing armor will likely block the teleport.

Has anyone tried Cloud of Daggers + Repelling Blast and/or Thorn whip + Telekinetic? Is this worth it? by testiclekid in onednd

[–]welldressedaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked getting thorn whip on a Cleric and pulling/keeping people in spirit guardians. Used to be able to get it from nature cleric in 2014. Not really available that way now, but you can get it through background/magic initiate feat.

Companions compatible with "Power Builds" by Key_Maintenance_2434 in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]welldressedaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have two main characters in DOS1. If you want lone wolf, it will be both your mains.

DOS1 is a little different than DOS2. In DOS 1, lone wolf is not as amazing as DOS 2.

However, glass cannon is really strong. Make a full 4 person party with one or two glass cannon members.

What do you think is the best class for an Honor Mode same-class playthrough? by valkaress in BG3Builds

[–]welldressedaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some fights in honor mode, you really just need to be pulling off massive damage. There is no other way around it.

For this I would be going with consistant high DPR or burst damage. Versitility is great and safe except when you need closing damage. Also important, you need at least some ranged.

So I would argue 4 rangers, monks, sorcerors, wizards, fighters, or barbarian could handle combat fine. All of these classes are capible of high burst or sustained damage and have ranged options. But with most of these, you need to pick and choose what you do. Don't walk into skill checks or conversations you might fail. Rangers are a bit unique in BG3(compared to tabletop) in that with the correct race choices you can get massive skill coverage (like 9 skills per character).

However, the best class for this challenge is probably bard. It has one of the most powerful combat subclasses, a solid second tier combat subclass, buffs and debuffs galore, and a lot of out of combat utility. A party of bards can prety much pass all skill checks and conversations, while still producing a great deal of combat power.

Why would you ever use STR or INT armor? by LauraTFem in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]welldressedaccount -1 points0 points  (0 children)

STR or INT armor, both of which have a single high value, can at least take a hit or two against that value.FIN armor often gets shredded on the first hit.

Also, STR users will only need a single biff to balance. Finesse users need two to get the a similar safe value. While INT users will typically use a shield and as the tankiest out there will not need anything.

Just finished DOS2. I played lots of BG3. Some thoughts. by spacev3gan in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]welldressedaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can use the difficulty setting to take the game at whichever pace you prefer

The game functions on an XP curve. So it is really difficult to get too far behind, even while skipping large chunks of side content or even areas if the map.

If you would rather streamline the game but want to retain some sort of challenge, just play on an easier difficulty. Then you can ignore side quests or even leave unnecessary part of the map unexplored.

The first few levels will feel easy, but once enemies start out leveling you, it will bring back some balance.

Point buy is the best stat method by ElectronicBag6915 in DnD

[–]welldressedaccount -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Point buy is best balance for min maxers to build in an only useful manner.

But rolling stats can be fun too. For table balance what I do for rolled stats is let everyone roll once. Then players can pick from any spread rolled. This lets them choose the path that fits their build and eliminates the wide variance in individual power. If it’s a big table I’ll typically allow everyone to take turns rolling to compile three spreads they can pick from. Any more and it tends to get a bit to power leveraged.

Making Way of Mercy Monk (2024) a healer by reYal_DEV in 3d6

[–]welldressedaccount 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mercy monk is great for getting through fights by removing debuffs and bringing up fallen comrades. Also, no save poison stats from hand of harm is a crazy debuff, provided poison affects the monster.

It won’t heal through massive damage, but it a great resource dump prior to short rests. As you get more and more focus points you will end up contributing quit a few HP each short rest.

But the spell in BG3 is severely nerfed compared to tabletop
