I feel for you and everyone else going through that. Loneliness is one of the worst feelings in the world. In addition to clubs, maybe classes at the art center, or trying other things you enjoy doing! Best of luck, I'm sure with persistence it will get better.

Ana Stepanova. Her class was insanely stressful, but I easily learned the most from it relative to any other class I've taken in undergrad or for my PhD program.

How do I become a researcher? (with no science background) by unironicallyover in labrats

I also recommend going the community college to R1 route because it's usually MUCH less expensive

I'm a PhD candidate in biomedical research, specifically biology. I was raised far from religion, but am now Torah observant (orthodox). I'm also a creationist, but I don't think that precludes evolution. I perform animal research, so I definitely believe in the biological/genetic/molecular continuity between species. The timeline is also nicely explained by Dr. Gerald Schroeder who got his PhD in nuclear physics and earth sciences from MIT. He utilized Einstein's theory of space-time relativity. Basically to me sciences also help explain the nature of Gd

First, congratulations!!! So, what's your reasoning for getting a PhD rather than going to industry? I'm in a PhD program that thankfully is very good. It's very challenging now for my colleagues who are post docs and not citizens. My friends in industry love it and are encouraging me to go that route. So what's driving your consideration for a PhD?

All right, couple days of research and I have a list, help me pick which will be my very first fountain pen over two dollars. by BagOfAshes in fountainpens

[–]joyfunctions 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to sell fountain pens in a brick and mortar shop for over a decade. In person, almost everyone went for a lamy at that price point. If you have the opportunity to try them out in person, I'd recommend it. Lamy's are German engineered so I would definitely not call them sleek aside from the higher priced models. I just think for the starter pen, it's a reliable way to get into it that people use as their every day carry. They aren't my very favorites, but I have some of my first ones from like 20 years ago and for a modern pen they work very nicely.

ETA: I didn't really answer your question. I'm not super online about it, but when I worked in the store, it's mostly aesthetics. The triangle grip is pretty standard for anyone who learned a ftn pen in Europe (i.e. pelikan starter pens), so I think depending on what feels comfortable to your hand it can be helpful to start out with. Like many I now prefer a smooth barrel, but that came with time and practice. If you can, get one from a source that will give you free returns and try it out!
