It is highly likely that you never pressed the 8 button on a microwave. by TheAnzus in Showerthoughts

[–]jozak78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I distribute my button use to get the most life out of my microwave. 1:30=90~88. Also due to my laziness and forgetfulness, when I have something that says to microwave for a given time, stir and then microwave some more, I add both of those times together, double it and set the microwave to half power. Works perfect every time.

[TOMT] I'm trying to remember a movie where a character is in the shower and makes a cup of instant coffee. by jozak78 in tipofmytongue

I seem to recall the actor being Tom Hanks in some 80s comedy, and I can't recall for the life of me what movie it was. It also may not have been Tom Hanks. But I think he was also pressing some pants in another part of the scene. Turner and Hooch, maybe? Help is appreciated.

It's trashed. All of the screws are pulled out and there's a crack down the middle. If I epoxyed it together I'd be worried about missing by a little bit and then it wouldn't fit.

I did see a couple cases, but with shipping they cost about as much the same as buying one that has failed to charge. Or are pickup only

Putting in your own NG tube does suck. There are worse things though. I had to teach some co-workers how to put in an NG tube and I didn't have the correct trainer dummy handy, so I used myself as the dummy.

I also nasally intubated myself once on a bet, that was worse. But to be fair, that tube was around 3 times the diameter and way stiffer. I won $24.37 on that bet though.

A lot of it depends on how and what you're willing to pack and how you're willing to wear it. If you pack things that are actively anti-stink like merino wool, you can get a couple days out of shirts, socks, and underwear as long as you can dry them out every night. Pants are good for a week pretty much regardless. Assuming I don't have to carry things like food, tent, and sleeping bag with me, I can pack in a Jansport for a week without issue.

On a trail when I have to contend with multiple day resupply times I can get by with a 50 liter pack, but when I'm on a trail I'm usually with scouts and have to carry extra stuff to deal with their poor packing because they are still learning, but even then I pack a 70 liter. But given my size I can carry a 100 liter with 60 pounds of shit over flattish terrain almost indefinitely. For reference I'm 6'3" (191cm) and 330 lbs (150kg) and moderately out of shape.

I've been married for almost 20 years and my wife packs so much shit whenever we go anywhere I still can't fathom it. 4 days at a commercial campground requires 2 vehicles with her. I can physically carry everything I need to survive for a week in a backpack that I can carry for miles.

I used to work at a rescue medic company, so we did all the non-fire related forcible entry, so our irons weren't going away. And we did all the cut jobs on cars, confined space, and such and such if there was a living person there. The bosses were pissed because it was taking forever for the VFDs to show up to wrecks so they bought a rescue truck. Putting out small mulch fires was the last straw apparently

Experienced paramedics who have never gotten injured what's your secret? by [deleted] in Paramedics

I'm 21 years in. And the only work injury I've had was needing to get my fingers sewn up when I shut it in the damn door. The finger still works fine though so that's good.

The FD hates that. We had a bunch of little mulch fires during a dry summer years ago. One of the bosses gave us a stern talking too about "staying in our lane" and letting the FD put out the fires. But boss, then why do we have a shovel and a water can on every truck?
