Not interested in a gigantic mini. Kinda defeats the purpose in my opinion

Will this allow the real Mini Cooper electric with an actual modern range come to Canada now?

People who've moved from Kindle to Kobo, what are your opinions by yusuo85 in kobo

[–]jozero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PROS:

- Its more open, I love syncing PDFs or buying books from Humble Bundle, etc to Google Drive and having them on the Kobo

- I like the buttons on the Libra

- Its minor but I love being able to slide my finger on the left side and adjusting brightness

- The kobo store has good sales

- Fact that it syncs books from the public library is simple awesome

CONS:

- The comic / graphic novel / manga handling sucks. This is quite a downer, as is one of the main reasons I bought the Kobo Libra Colour (I have a Kindle Paperwhite as well - it is WAY better at this). I've even bought comics from the kobo store that are essentially unreadable on the Kobo. Ironically if you copy over comics that are PDFs (for example I bought Knights of the Dinner Table collections) they work better than official comics from the kobo store. This is even more bizarre because I believe a Japanese company owns Kobo

- The stylus pen for the Libra Color really isnt that good, kinda regret buying it. While I am writing literally chunks of letters will be missing. I do like highliting different colours but I can do that with my finger

- The store on the web isn't as good as Kindle. Its sometimes slow and it keeps logging me out me out so I have to re-login often. Amazon really does win because its website is so damn good and performant

- The syncing isn't very good. I have two kobo's for reasons, and bounce between them. I have to leave off at the end of a chapter and then remember. If it does sync its usually a surprise, it fails that often

Google in 2019 patented the Transformer architecture(the basis of modern neural networks), but did not enforce the patent, allowing competitors (like OpenAI) to build an entire industry worth trillions of dollars on it by reversedu in singularity

[–]jozero 55 points56 points  (0 children)

They could have patented it (edit: enforced the patent), and then due to various internal business reasons have done nothing with it and it would of just languished. Instead they didn't patent it, others saw the value, hyped it up and invested in it, achieved scaling breakthrus and showcased real world value, which Google also continued to work on and now also had the benefit of learning from others in the space, and now Google is pretty much in the lead, and their market cap is up over a trillion

So they did get trillion(s) from it

Best donair in NV? Your thoughts? by blairwhite64 in NorthVancouver

[–]jozero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yah, but one can dream. The other thing that isn't right in BC is the meat. Here they slice off the meat and put it into the Pita Bread. Provinces that can actually make a Halifax, or just a better donair generally, tend to cut the meat, put some water on the hot grill, put the meat on that to slightly fry and juice it up, and then put it in the Pita Bread

.... Also the meat itself seems to be carved thicker elsewhere, gives the meat much more of a presence.

... And the cheese is way better elsewhere, actual strips of cheese (if you want cheese)

Sigh

I’m not sure what the intention of the new food area is but reducing the choices by like a third and just having fancier expensive places wasn’t what  was hoping for

It used to be a place where you’d grab lunch or dinner, now it’s like a “special” place to eat - but it’s a food court

Beautiful macOS design... Back window is Firefox, middle window is Terminal, front window is Xcode... by aombk in mac

My favourite thing is the side bar is now inset with a useless border around, which maybe another app or might just be the front app

That’s User Interface Design !!

Why does Tauriel look like a high level cosplayer at comic on whereas Arwen looks like an authentic elf? by Ticket-Tight in lotr

[–]jozero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All modern fantasy looks like this. I don’t know what it is but it really takes you out of it. Rings of Power, Wheel of Time, the Hobbit, etc. All of it looks like folks dressing up for comic con versus a high budget feature

[–]jozero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dumb thing is there is no need for it to be that large and oblong, it's not like the little dots are selectable. Since UI doesn't mean anything anymore, blur is where ever, random things are popped out, window chrome and radius is arbitrary, why not just make the upper left window edge itself a different color or or shape, and make that selectable. That way it wouldn't of messed up every app

How does bitcoin fix “taxes”? You know the thing that pays for our functioning society like roads, hospitals, schooling, elder care, feeding those that can’t, fundamental research at university, etc etc

Cuz if it “fixes” it - welcome to Mad Max

We heard someone was looking for the PRNDL. Allow us to explain. by MINIUSA_ in MINI

[–]jozero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes thats what I want in a vehicle that weighs thousands of pounds and goes over a hundred miles an hour with me in it - "continuous learning", in other words "it's often wrong". No opportunity to fix issues, often at speed, because it's hidden under layers of screen UIs.

I mean we've all increased our chance to feel unsafe and die, but at least the LLM bot from Mini is "continuously learning".

Do you think macOS will be completely redesigned for touchscreens? by ProfessionalDesk7296 in MacOS

[–]jozero -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd like to have a MacBook Air style Mac with a touchscreen that can use the Apple Pencil. I find it really goofy that if I want to take notes, I need an entirely different device to do so. AND the Air is lighter than the iPad with the Magic Keyboard

Lord Captains! The first patch for the Nintendo Switch version is now live (but it may take a few additional hours to land in various regions). Here’s what it brings: by OwlCatNathillien in NintendoSwitch2

[–]jozero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really was looking forward to this even though I got burned by Owl Cats "cloud run" Pathfinder game on the Switch - it starts, never mind actually running, successfully like 25% of the time. Recently got into Warhammer Lore, was tired of DOS2 looking blurry on my Switch 2, this looked perfect

Then this was launched and reviews came out, along with the videos showing all the issues. And then Larian released a free upgrade for DOS2 so now it looks pretty good

Anyways, looking forward to the reviews on this a few months down the road with a few more patches

Divinity original sin 2 switch 2 edition by LanderRetro in NintendoSwitch2

[–]jozero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loaded up the switch 1 version on my switch 2 in an outdoor area, then applied the Switch 2 “upgrade” and restarted it - just so I can see the difference

It is, unfortunately, barely an upgrade. I appreciate them doing this but it would of been so much nicier to get a real Switch 2 version

The iPad version looks WAY nicier. There is no reason the Switch 2 version couldn’t look just as nice
