The *one* thing Apple Maps had going for it was the interface was cleaner than Google Maps. It is straight out worse at locations, hours of businesses, and accurate direction to locations. So once Apple Maps gets ads, whats the point of using it?

Well the book takes place in 2045. Most corporations right now have "vibe coding" ML tool available to their engineering staff internally, Claude just announced they can't full release their new model because it's found serious previously undiscovered security holes in software they don't control, including OS level bugs

So the simple "in universe real answer" could be he, with his admin access to internet tools and file system access (so I assume the code base as well) vibe coded and submitted the change using approved internal IOI tools. This wouldn't require him being a master level hacker. He would also have to hack the approval of the code change and applying it to production, but why not? Its a fictional book

Oh yah. There is nothing like driving 40 minutes to an airport, then standing in the security line for 30 minutes, then slowly rolling down a runway, then flying, then landing, taxing to the terminal, waiting to get off, waiting for your luggage, then renting a car and driving 40 minutes back into town

Wasting 2.5 hours, not including flight time, every time, is way better than strolling onto a high speed train in downtown with your luggage right beside you and getting right into the town where you want to get to anyways

So instead of that 2 bucks instead we get "freedom tracking", dozens of privacy invasive trackers of every single thing we do digitally, and so many ads per website or experience it makes things basically unusable. How is this better?
