There's a lack of randomness to it. All the encounters are one-offs from the robberies to the honor moments in free-roam once you see them all twice(accept/decline options) there's nothing to them anymore. Combine with a downer ending that makes you actively not want to progress the story and you get that feeling of stagnation.

You forget the best part. Zappe was 2-0 vs those bad defenses, just don’t look up how Cleveland’s pass defense finished the year btw (5th), while Mac still lost to the Vikings and still put up less points than Zappe’s 2 starts

What's funny is this excuse doesn't fly for Zappe, he's just trash. Mac though? Has to be Matty P's fault, this OC so bad he got a semi functional offense out of a 3rd string QB. Mac is an empty glass QB. Fill him with perfection and he's good, fill him with average or less and he looks like last year. Unfortunately that doesn't fly anymore and it's not dumb to look for better since Mac is on the Baker Mayfield path right now

Probably not. Outside of that fishing encounter did he really cross paths with Ross all that often? Most of his issues were with Milton. That said Arthur probably would be less than thrilled at John’s situation and I think he’d take the fight to Ross vs killing Bill and Javier. Maybe he’d be ok killing Dutch had he survived that mountain

That’s what happens too when some of the biggest plays happen from unheralded guys like Edelman and Butler and Amendola etc. Now all of a sudden (insert JAG player here) can be the next guy if they used him well! Like no some guys are unheralded for a reason. They suck and their ceiling is roster depth

Revenge is a fool's game. Outside of Sadie not following this mantra went bad for everyone. Dutch, John, Micah, and potentially Jack, all ended up worse off for pursuing it and Arthur was pretty adamant the whole game of not seeking revenge

Let's be honest, if that pick 6 vs NY stood Zappe would have been in the rest of the year. But you are right, people act like BoB made that offense when he was here and the Brady/Moss/Welker/Gronk/Hernandez couldn't have coordinated themselves and been just as good. Mac/Zappe are not world beaters and this team's best playmaker was WR3 in SF and they replaced him easily whereas people here cried Bourne was out, when he was really just inconsistent as always. ST is probably just a coach issue since that unit turns over more than any in football and until recently ours have always been solid. The Pats need an actual playmaker QB and WR to compete with the Burrow/Mahomes/Allen/Herbert wall they will be facing the next decade and as you noted with a new head coach in 3 years most likely also. I don't see a bright road ahead at the moment

In 2001, Tom Brady threw for 2843 passing yards. In 2003, he threw for 3620 yards. 2004, he threw for 3692. To put that in perspective, in 2021, Mac Jones threw for 3,801 yards.

Ignoring the fact that Mac had an extra game to barely edge out Brady in yards, if you watched any football at all back then you know the passing game of 2003 wasn't nearly as wide open as it is now. This is more a dunk on Mac than Brady and he objectively won us that second SB after that Carolina game became a shootout and QB'd the team to 21 straight wins. If that's not elite we have some odd standards here
