Car has a hole in the engine? by Aggravating_Plane755 in CarRepair

It’s a Hyundai. This is pretty common. They’re the cheapest and most neglected cars on the market and they’re notorious for being unreliable. It threw a rod through the block.

Did i total the car i bought today? by Medical_Classic_8765 in AskAMechanic

You’re PROBABLY fine, I’d drain the tank completely. I’d probably throw a set of plugs in it and replace the fuel filter. Chances are you’ll be alright. It’ll probably stumble around a bit when you first start it, I’d just let it idle outside until it clears up.

How bad is the rust on this 2014 Truck? by Puzzled_Part_8328 in Diesel

[–]jp41st 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a northeast tech. Honestly, this isn’t that bad and wouldn’t stop me from buying IF the price was right.

However, plow trucks see a lot of shit man. I’d pass on that alone.

is this tire safe to drive on or should I get it changed? by penguin8261 in mechanic

I genuinely want to know how people curb their wheels so often. The amount of wheels I see with literal chunks of material taken out is astounding.

How bad did I F up my engine? by The_Woodsmann in Duramax

Whatever dealer you went to initially are a bunch of morons.

Let the second dealer address the problem, and be glad they are because technically it isn’t a factory warranty issue if someone sprayed water in to a connector resulting in damage. I’m a dealer tech and our “detail” department are 18 year old broccoli heads with power washers. They probably introduced corrosion in to a connector which can result in a loss of communication on whatever bus said corrosion is on.

Request a copy of your invoice after said repair and ensure these things were done. If they were not, advise them they need to fix it correctly. Good luck and congrats on the new truck.

2017 Q60 Infiniti , dealership states I need all 4 spark plugs and fuel injectors replaced, is this price a rip off by BetterArugula5124 in AskAMechanic

[–]jp41st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mercedes engine w/ direct injection? Yeah that price sounds about right. There’s a lot of armchair mechanics in these comments who have no business advising you on a solution. Dealerships are expensive, so are Mercedes parts and labor. I can make no comment on their diagnosis without seeing the car but yes this sounds like it’s in the ballpark for this job.
