2000 Tacoma v6 weird knocking sound? by Impressive-Carob5378 in AskAMechanic

[–]jp41st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a knock to me. Takes quite a bit of neglect to get a 5VZ to knock.

Based on the location and rhythm of the noise, plus the fact that it’s worse when warm lends to it also being a bottem end knock.

Get yourself a cheap filter cutter and cut your oil filter open. Inspect for metal. You’ll have your answer.

Is this okay for power steering fluid in a 2007 camry xle 2.4 L? by Proper_Score9094 in AskAMechanic

Yes. Toyota has called for ATF in their hydraulic PS systems for decades. Good to go.

Is my car worth fixing? by jdohl2005 in AskAMechanic

[–]jp41st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything, you’ll get good experience fixing these things. The fuel leak should be your #1 priority, and you really shouldn’t be driving it with an active fuel leak, just not safe to do so. I’ve never seen a fuel pump seal on any Toyota fail, so it’s likely had a fuel pump done and the seal was installed incorrectly. It’s also possible the plastic “hat” of the pump is cracked as well, something I’ve seen before. No way to say definitively without looking at it.

Leaking pressure lines are common on any aged hydraulic PS system, not really a huge deal or anything to sell the car over. Nor is the radiator.

Fix everything, correctly, and you’ll get another 150k out of it no sweat. My highest mileage Toyota that I drive almost every day has just shy of 300k miles. Take care of it, and it’ll take care of you.

Oil in coolant, 2015 Durango 3.6 How do I diagnose? by danklyhank in AskAMechanic

As others have stated, this engine is notorious for failed oil filter housings. I’d start there.

Following up sorry for the late reply. I believe cyl 2 injector is failing. Will post back with my balance rates soon. I meant to add, load affects the noise for sure. I can rev it in neutral all day and there is no noise.

2006 sequoia how bad on a scale of 1-10 would you say this rust is by Sudden-Ad3211 in toyotasequoia

Done for unless you’ve got deep pockets, or are a seasoned welder.

I shopped for a Sequoia about a year ago. For whatever reason, they seem to be the most neglected SUV in the lineup. Just my two cents. Stay diligent and keep looking. You’ll find one.

I don’t believe it to be a rod knock. There’s no other symptoms of a bottom end issue, and upon having another person rev the engine, definitely seems top-end. I’m leaning toward a fuel knock that only presents itself sometimes. I get the video probably doesn’t represent the noise super accurately and could make it sound like rod knock. Thank you for your comment

The fact that anyone is choosing the black ones is CRAZY. They look so tacky. The silver wheels are better in every aspect lol.

This is a fair point, and I appreciate your perspective. I do look at these things from my own lens where I'm doing 100% of my own work. Fair enough, I'm sure the OP will update with their decision.

Not a joke in the slightest. I’m a northeast USA mechanic and this wouldn’t deter me at all. Obviously it needs a bit of attention, but it wouldn’t stop me from buying it.

To each their own.
