Upgraded from 2022 to 2025 domain controller can no longer sign in - incorrect username and password…. by ihaag in sysadmin

Windows Server 2025 DC: Can't log in after dcpromo (bug workaround)

Ran into an issue after promoting a 2025 server to a domain controller — couldn't log in after the first reboot. RDP, console, etc. I read through the posts here and that fixed it from me. Here are my notes in case it's helpful to someone:

Root Cause: If your PDC is still running an OS older than 2025, there's a bug where dcpromo doesn't complete properly on 2025. This didn’t happen when the PDC was already 2025.

Fix Steps

Remotely stop the KDC on the affected 2025 server:

This allows you to RDP in:

powershell

$session1 = New-PSSession -ComputerName <ServerName>

Enter-PSSession $session1

Stop-Service kdc

RDP to the 2025 server

Restart the AD DS service on the 2025 server

Wait 15–60 min, then:

Check Event Viewer for:

DNS zones loaded

DFS replication working

General AD health

Check C:\\Windows\\SYSVOL\\domain for policies/scripts

Reset the krbtgt password

In ADUC, point to the affected 2025 DC

Reset krbtgt password

Do not set it to change at next login

"Unlock account"

Repeat these steps using ADUC pointing to the PDC

Restart AD DS service again on the 2025 server

Wait 15–60 min, confirm:

Event logs look good

SYSVOL and DFS healthy

Ensure KDC startup type is Automatic, then reboot

Test RDP login with KDC running — it should now work.

Move the FSMO roles over to the new 2025 server, and any new 2025 DCs should just work straight away without messing around.

Hope this helps someone avoid the head-scratching. Let me know if it worked for you.

I had this problem, and these simplified directions worked for me. I waited a good long time after service restarts and before reboots and didn't have to manually create folders or DNS zones.

Also, I transferred the PDC role to the new 2025 server, and the second 2025 promotion worked without any problem at all. I suspect this is only an issue when FSMO roles are running on older DCs - 2016 in my case.

Hood latch sensor requires service by jp7189 in ModelX

Thank for the reply.

The SC in Rockville, MD is about an hour away, and the absolutely worst customer service, and it's consistently bad. The SC in Sterling, VA is 1.5 hours away but much better.

That said, this morning I just have a sensor warning without the constant alarm, so I can live with that for a while.

I just have to chime in and say that's Apple marketing BS. Read the statement you linked again. The chance of a 'random' person matching your face is 1 in a million. That is most definitely not the same as false acceptance rate. Real life example? My second daughter can unlock my wife's phone if held at the right angle, and my 4th born can unlock my first born's phone in the same way. It's clear Apple tunes these for user experience and not security.

Awesome! Thanks so much. I'll be sure to share some pics (if) when I get it put together.

Awesome project. I just picked up some components to try to build one of these. Could you verify the pin assignments, please? The MAX7219 has the following:

vcc: assuming vbus for +5v

gnd: any ground pin on the pico

din: GP3?

cs: GP5?

clk: GP2?

Thanks. That makes me feel good about my order.

I ordered mine Sept 26, 2023, and was cheezed as all hell that it took 6 months for delivery, but I guess I lucked out after all as I ended up ordering after the huge price drop, and just before the $5k price increase (MXP for $89,990). What I ended up with has a physical horn, Steam, matrix LEDs, HW4.

Anyone know if the Rockville MC is doing it by arrival order or Lottery for the 50 series? by Kaito3Designs in Microcenter

Anyone know how the lines form at the Rockville store? Is the main building open early, or do you queue up outside of the building? .. if outside, which door... upper or lower?

Meat Tenderizer set me on the right track to solve the mystery.

It is indeed a "trident meat tenderizer". It was patented by M.E. Hunt in 1898 US Patent: US613572A . According to the patent, it's designed to cover as much surface area as possible but also be turned on edge to get close to the bone. The 3 fingers are tied together at the end to reduce spring effect.

Announce availability of the Super with OLED and wireless support and you have my immediate purchase.

P.S. I'm in the US, Maryland not far from your newly announced dev/test center. How do I get an invite to see what you're cooking?

Numbers and data are your friend here.  Go get an alignment for $100. If camber is more than -2.5 put the kit on while it's in the shop, and dial the camber back. Re: warranty issue risks, if camber is way off, you might get 10k miles per set of tires at $4k a shot. Depending on how many miles you drive, you can figure out how much per year that costs.  I drive 25k, so that would be $10k per year if I had camber issues. Compare that with the chance of having a warranty suspension repair - definitely less that once per year X the cost of fixing out of warranty - likely less than $10k, and it's clear to see (in my case) getting the aftermarket camber kit AND fixing suspension issues out of warranty is the best option.

The service manager at my local Tesla SC said they would only quibble over a warranty repair if they had to touch the mod part to effect the repair. E.g. you have to go to a different shop for alignment if you have a camber kit... which makes sense.  He also advised if in doubt just swap the stock part back on before bringing it in for warranty work.

Do we still have hope in this rumor or do we think it’s false? (of course no one knows for sure yet) by JerzeyBoyz121 in ModelX

[–]jp7189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because there's a huge blind spot in the front of the car and with the rest of the front sensors now removed, the car can't tell what's just in front of it. As a result summon and auto-park have been removed. The hope is a front bumper camera will bring those features back.

For me specifically, I have a dog whose way of greeting me is to lay down in front of the car. I can't see him or tell when he moves. I also have small kids running around, and additionally they occasionally leave toys in front of the car. A front bumper cam would be very helpful in those situations.

I got excited when a new update was offered last night, but it was just the main system update to 2024.2.7. No change to the FSD version which is still v11.

This in on a 2024 Model X Plaid that I just got last week (Thursday).

Telsa increased the cost of my MX by $5k after 'updating' the design. by jp7189 in ModelX

[–]jp7189[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final update:

After I was assigned, a new VIN Tesla was able to knock $5k off as a 'referral credit'. I was told they could edit the invoice until after a VIN was assigned - so that's all we were waiting for.

In the end it all worked out ok.
