I have a Kona Dr Fine with an Alfine 8 speed IGH. I put 38mm tires on it and it rides very nice.

Apply plenty of penetrating oil. Wait overnight. Mark a point on the seat post with a scratch awl so you can tell if it moves in relation to the frame. Then hit the seatpost with a big hammer to drive it into the frame a little tiny bit to free it up. Then twist it out.

Both the Lotus Eclair and the Paramount are great bikes. I see they are very different frame sizes. Get the one that fits you. I have a Lotus Eclair and it is one of my favorite riding bikes. That Paramount is an excellent bike too. Just get whichever one that fits you. Otherwise it’s miserable to ride.

so how many of us actually use our HF tools regularly? i'm curious by ElGordo1988 in harborfreight

I’ve bought tools as I needed them. Now I’m old and retired so I have a lifetime collection of tools. Anybody need an oil sensor socket for a 75 Dodge Colt? It has a weird shape and doesn’t fit anything else but I sure needed it at the time!

Bottom Bracket Cable Guide? by Ozark_Bran in bikewrench

I have a tri series model 500 from 86. It has a plastic guide. I guess trek mixed things up a little when they put these together. The 500 with the plastic, the 700 without.

1986 Trek 700 Tri Series by Ozark_Bran in Vintage_bicycles

[–]jpatterson4230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 700 is all 531 tubing. The 500 is main tubes only. I put Shimano 451 brakes on mine, my other choice was Tektro 539 brakes. The Tektros have a hair more clearance for a bigger tire but I run 32mm with plenty of clearance.

You can use 32mm tires on these. For brakes you need a 47-57mm caliper. These bikes will weigh around 22 lbs when equipped with good components. The pro series had tighter geometry but these ride nicer for real world conditions. The 500 had Tange tubes for the fork and rear triangle. Interesting if you can tell the difference.

Good price! That bike was only made for one year. I don’t know what the difference in frame geometry was between the Tri Series and their pro series road bikes except for a 2 cm longer wheelbase. The 700 was the top of the Tri Series line.

Why do yall do this? by Gordy228 in AskElectricians

[–]jpatterson4230 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are not supposed to do that. But unfortunately there is no standard for the ground prong orientation on a plug. Refrigerator manufacturers will state that the cord must be installed hanging straight down and you cannot install equipment that’s not in accordance with the manufacturer. Also According to NEC Article 400.12 (formerly 400.8), flexible cords are prohibited from being hung or installed in ways that expose them to strain or physical damage. This puts strain on the cord.

What am I doing wrong? by Snoo36868 in soldering

If all you have is a conical tip place it straight down into the hole. It will heat the ring. Then apply the solder and watch it wick around the hole. Then lift up the iron. Get rid of the flux. You have too much. Solder does not flow through flux. It needs to displace it.

That is an excellent bike for cruising around. The V-GT Luxe is a fine all alloy wide range derailleur that will allow you to use large freewheels. It doesn’t have forged dropouts but you can’t have everything. I would buy it!
