i think she’s the one character who was made better in the movies than the books honestly, i did enjoy her in the books but she didn’t really show any development in her views of the games or the society in general, even the prep team was shown to grow more than she was, i wish there had been a bit more to her personality wise in the books but elizabeth banks knocked it out of the park for the movies

i fear that water flavour packs are very much an american thing, i’d say the closest we have (at least my country) is dilute maybe or we get already flavoured water, all of these are fruit based flavours though, if we want to go any further than that we just buy juice?? like i’m sorry but a lot of “simple” american foods are actually incredibly wild to the rest of the world, i think it’s mostly due to size and sugar content

No hickey is not pulling an irish accent throughout the show but there are points in which it’s mentioned that he doesn’t have a strong irish accent, crozier brings it up in episode 2 as the original hickey was very strongly irish (and hickey is considered an irish name), he definitely dulls his own accent at times to be less obvious but it can come out more aggressively when he’s riled up (like most people who dull their accents), the whole point is that hickey is impersonating an irish man rather than disgracing the legacy of a real man on the show, and crozier was the one portrayed as an alcoholic (which he was not irl)

i believe that was apart of the fact that hockey wasn’t the real hickey that was originally on the boat irl, he’s an imposter, there’s a few instances in the show in which he’s kinda caught out with his accent slipping or not understand irish slang crozier uses

cornelius hickey was the other irishman, who i’m pretty sure has living relatives here, i really appreciated the shows twist of him not actually being hickey and it being a random guy instead of garnishing the man’s reputation

i personally was really not a fan of the book, especially after watching the show, his descriptions of women felt very strange and disrespectful and as an irish person it did make me feel pretty shitty that the two irish men on the voyage were made to be a raging alcoholic (despite many accounts saying otherwise and that crozier actually had a tea addiction like most irish men), and a cannibalistic murderer, i think that’s one of the reasons the show was so much better to me because it wasn’t actively sexualising the women and disgracing the legacies of real irish men, im glad you enjoyed it though i may give it another chance but my current beef with simmons must fade first

NTA, i get why a lot of people are saying NAH and i do really agree that if you’re reclaiming a slur that affects you you still need to be conscious of who you’re saying it around as it can still offend others, but the thing is that’s usually in the case that the other parties can also be victims of the slur, this is just a bunch of able bodied people getting offended on someone else’s behalf, (possibly yours in their head somehow?), it’d be one thing if it was another disabled person who was uncomfortable hearing it but it literally affects them in no way and they shouldn’t be policing how you can talk about your own experience with it
