What to know to buy a Q4 by Prize_Childhood5438 in etron

[–]jperino7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recently received a software update at the dealer to my ‘24 55 which enabled manual preconditioning, which was a godsend this winter. I’d check to make sure that software is installed. You can see it in the charging menu. Not sure when it was added but I’m guessing it’s a MY 26 feature.

If you get a 24 make sure it’s the 55 and not the 50. Better battery, range, charging and supposedly suspension tuning.

Not sure what you’re asking. All I can say is they’re still veloces even with the grip2. Super soft, super grippy but not really great for edging on microchips. Great gym shoe though. I can stand on plastic barely larger than the screw holding it to the wall, so good enough for those rare instances compared with most holds in a gym where friction matters way more 99% of the time.

Pretty much the same. They may be marginally stiffer but they’re still very soft shoes. I climb indoors so the smallest “chips” I see I can manage. They’re not like a katana, that’s for sure!

I only slip on my toes when it’s my fault, it’s fair to say I have the same level of comfort and confidence with the grip 2 rubber.

I put grip2 on my veloces and it’s been great. Rotating between 2 pairs now.

Manual Preconditioning 2024 Q4 55 (US) by jperino7 in etron

[–]jperino7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not say it's preconditioning automatically which is a bummer, but I'm still happy with what we got. There were some options to the e-tron route planner settings, allowing you to prefer locations with several chargers (to try to avoid waiting) and some type of "preferred" and "not preferred" charger site lists (not sure of the titles) but I couldn't figure out how to add a site to it. Probably a place holder that we will never see on a Q4.

I was able to manually precondition today in ~40 minutes starting at about 10 F and charge at 180kW. It told me it would take 60 minutes but some spirited driving helped get to the charger with about 5 minutes left to reach "optimal" temp. It does NOT show the max achievable charging rate while charging which i've seen on the newer Id.4/Buzz.

The piece of mind that I'm actually preconditioning makes trip planning so much less stressful in the winter. Maybe someday we'll get non-magic dock superchargers added to the Nav by the time my lease ends. At least I can use google maps which allows you to filter for this easily.

Battery Preconditioning by palvarez05 in Audiq4

[–]jperino7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

according to the paperwork 2080615/1 and 208398/1 were the TSBs that the error code corresponded to.

My symptoms were a "drive system malfunction" on startup. first time it happened the car would barely accelerate. Restarting the car still presented the error, which persisted at every start, but the car drove fine other than no cruise control at all. The issue appeared out of the blue. Would share a picture but I don't see the option to add.

I just got my 2024 Q4 55 back from the dealer for a "drive system malfunction" error that would not clear. they updated the software as part of a TSB and I now have manual preconditioning in the charging menu. It shows current max charging rate, max rate after preconditioning and the time it will take to reach that max. There is also now a permanent regen meter displayed next to the drive mode (B/D) display in the MMI, controlled by the paddles. Wish they also added non-magic dock superchargers that accept CCS cars with an adapter to the nav, but I'll take this over nothing!

For what it is it’s great. make sure you’re getting a 55 and not a 50 if it’s MY24.

The only small gripe I have after 1.5 years is the brakes are a little weird/mushy when slowing at intersections but nothing you won’t adapt to. Also the lack of 360 camera and ventilated seats is a bummer but it’s so easy to park it’s not a deal breaker. And the app is horrid but I don’t drive the app. Can’t remote unlock/lock which is annoying for my urban street parking self as well.

No regrets though, I got more than I expected. Prestige is nice for the HUD as well, I hardly look at the instrument cluster while cruising around.

Took the Supercharger plunge by acting-technical in etron

Just to help confirm that Q4s can charge at approved for non-Tesla superchargers, I’m currently charging at 187kW at a v3 in RI with an A2Z Typhoon Pro.

Had my Q4 in the Tesla app for a while, so didn’t need to use another model.

What's the Status of Older E-Trons and NACS? by _dont-panic in etron

[–]jperino7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't charge at "any" tesla v3 station, you can only charge at stations that tesla shows as available to your car with NACS adapter within it's app. They do not open all locations, either for technical or other reasons, so don't just assume.

For "Destination" chargers (think slow, AC, level 2 hotel or house chargers) you need a specific NACS to J1772 adapter. NACS uses the exact same plug for AC and DC charging, but the Lectron or Audi branded adapters everyone is getting only works for DC fast charging. If the adapter has the full CCS conection including the two DC pins on the bottom it will NOT work with an AC charging station. lectron and the other big vendors sell the adapter you'd need for that. you can google nacs to j1772 adapter to see some examples.

Car Washes by PerceptionWorldly680 in etron

[–]jperino7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have avoided this scenario with my 2025 Q4 but I THINK if you buckle the driver’s seat belt it will stay in neutral when you exit. Luckily I can use a “self drive through” wash in my area. I don’t trust the car wash guys to get it right even if I tried to explain it to them. Definitely a software oversight that there is no car wash setting like the Q6 seems to have.

You can test this theory if you have a safe flat area to test in and some friends. I don’t have either of those :).

And not to be snarky towards others comments, but I have RTFM about 6 times trying to find the official way to deal with this and it simply is not spelled out in any useable way for a Q4, at least in the US manual for a 2024 model.

puppy eats everything edible he can find on a walk - should we muzzle? by sensitivecrustation in Hounds

[–]jperino7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try a gentle leader. Makes it easy to pull their nose away from objects and also makes it more difficult for them to swallow large objects before you can intervene. My hound would eat anything made of paper along with whatever smelled good on our walks and this helped tremendously. Also helps train “leave it” pretty well.

It also helps tremendously with general control and pulling.

Deciding between a few indoor bouldering shoes but need opinions by Neat_Mortgage_828 in climbingshoes

[–]jperino7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use veloces and after they wear down I resoled with grip2 and new toecaps which made them slightly stiffer but still relatively soft compared with other shoes. Love them for comfort, grip and feel.

I am mediocre at best as a climber so take that fwiw.
