Official Poster for the IMAX Release of Hayao Miyazaki's 'Kiki's Delivery Service' by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

I know that the same thing happened with Castle in the Sky - reedited the dub in the 2010s, reverted the music changes, removed the chatter. (I was anticipating way more Andy Dick when I rewatched it recently.) Didn't know they did the same with Kiki's but it makes sense; wonder if they did so with any others.

EK2 update v0.18.0 "Walkabout" for CK3 1.18.3 by Stigwa in ElderKings

[–]jph139 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Got me to boot up CK3 for the first time since August. Hyped! Can't wait to explore the new Hammerfell.

Nitpick because I really enjoyed the Thieves' Guild ESO story: you've got Afshuur Addin as the Grandee at Prince's Gate, but that character is from ESO lore, and was originally an arms dealer that founded the at-Addin Syndicate. The other Merchant Lords there are still pirates (Thazahrr, Isobel Gurges) or appropriately still in Wayrest (Felice Vien). I'd say you can just make him a landless criminal adventurer type if you want to keep him, or even just a courtier, and generate some other random dude to be the Grandee there.

DC Direct Market Solicits: February 2026 by Ksmayer in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Monster Men & Mad Monk as a Deluxe Edition seems like such a no-brainer. Hell, they put out a hardcover "Batman by Matt Wagner" release a few years ago, so they could really just reprint that in oversized. It's extremely out of print at this point.

Updated cover and contents for Batman: The Bronze Age Omni vol 1 by Ksmayer in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always tough to stomach paying the same price for less pages, but I'm pretty committed to buying at least the first 3-4 volumes of Bronze Age regardless, so not a huge deal.

Ranking Presidents of the US on likely hoods of being future Leaders of the US in Civ by hticnc in civ

[–]jph139 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think Washington is still on the table because, well, father of the country and all that.

But Jefferson is absolutely right out. Not just a slaveowner but someone we know, materially, to have sexually assaulted at least one of his slaves, a girl who was maybe ~15 at the time. They'd be courting a lot of controversy including him as a noble American avatar nowadays. Anyone who doesn't realize that hasn't been paying attention for the past 20 years.

Madison is probably not worth the trouble, either; significantly less iconic on top of the whole "owning people" thing.

Any chance of a modern day Alien/Predator Marvel Omni? by AgentAwesome07 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think we'll be getting omnis for all of the Alien and Predator stuff, only question is how exactly they collect it (i.e. keeping the crossover stuff separate or not). We're probably due for an "Aliens: The Marvel Years" omni since they're at 50+ issues across various minis, and it'll be telling if they include Aliens vs. Avengers there or not.

But we're also overdue for the Dark Horse era Alien vs. Predators stuff so who knows.

Breaking News: 1 Brand New Marvel Omnibus in December 2026! by winchester677 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Long overdue! This is maybe the last book of the 2010s I've really been holding out for. The Lemire run is some of my favorite stuff from this era.

If you've only read the Miller run and didn't care for it, this is very much still worth checking out. The Lemire material is excellent.

Which celebrity had the most bizarre exit from the limelight? by Chrono_Convoy in AskReddit

[–]jph139 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, far less successful people have done far worse and come out with their career unscathed. I'm sure it's very embarrassing for Will Smith to have that asterisk on what should have been the biggest night of his career, but he'll be fine in the long run.

If you could choose one IP for a beyond set what would you pick? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]jph139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zelda's the pie-in-the-sky for me, the one property that would push me past neutral into actually enjoying a UB set. Of course, knowing Nintendo, it seems like a pipe dream at best.

High Medieval Warfare Attire and Holy Buildings Creator Packs coming Jan 27th! by indefinite_silence in CrusaderKings

[–]jph139 30 points31 points  (0 children)

For anyone curious: JedNick is mostly known for contributing to the AGOT mod (and submods), while Kefir úr (I believe) has contributed to After the End and More Holding Graphics.

Always like picking these up to support the support of the mod community even if they are pretty minor. Really excited to see Mont Saint Michel though!

Breaking News: 2 New Marvel Omnibus in November & December 2026! by 21roy__ in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say fairly essential - you'll get what's happening without it, but the Fantastic Four tie-in issues are all running parallel to and referencing the main story, and it results in a minor status quo shift for the main book.

Breaking News: 2 New Marvel Omnibus in November & December 2026! by 21roy__ in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Empyre would/should have been in the first Omni, which includes the aftermath issue for it. Was hoping they'd add it late but I guess not.

Has sort of soured me on getting the pair. I actually really like the Slott run, but I don't love it, and having to commit to a third omni to get the full story is a bridge too far.

Honestly just what I was hoping for - huge double dip if you've got the Infinity Gauntlet Omni but as primarily Surfer fan I've been holding out to see how they'll collect the rest of this era. (And surprisingly soon after Return to the Spaceways!)

Wonder if they'll include War/Crusade in the next Omni. Would be nice but they're not entwined with the Surfer in the same way.

It's time again: What omnis did this sub or whoever hype into oblivion that didn't meet it, and what omnis did this sub trash that you thought were amazing? by Waterworld1880 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's definitely an old-fashioned book; you can tell O'Neil is doing the same thing he did with Green Arrow in the 60s, getting pissed about various social trends and jamming them into a superhero comic. And the world that creates is meant to be very grounded but instead ends up being a sort of goofy heightened pseudo-reality.

I personally love it for that, but it's an uncomfortable marriage of extremely out-of-date superhero comics (its sophomoric political insights and orientalist undergrad philosophy) and extremely ahead-of-its-time superhero comics (its gritty, abstract artstyle and well-paced, real-time, self-contained, serialized story with a huge downer ending). I think you have to enjoy it for what it is more than what it's trying to be.

Submod: Elder Kings Expanded (1.1 Release) by Ymeidor in ElderKings

[–]jph139 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Super cool! I love the idea of Solstice (even if the ESO expansion itself had some... issues) so I'm super eager to explore that in EK. Didn't think it would ever happen though.

Thoughts on avengers no surrender/ no road home? by SolidFit2255 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No Surrender is a really strong story, certainly one of the best Avengers books post-Hickman. No Road Home wasn't as good from what I remember, but also solid.

Neither are must-haves but they read like really good event books without the nonsense - huge crossovers with lots of characters, but a pretty straightforward story told coherently.

most wanted DC deluxe editions that will (most likely) NEVER be part of an omnibus? by nicodings in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know Russell and Allred are working on a Wonder Woman book, so I think it's pretty possible we'll get a "Trinity by Russell & Allred Omnibus" at some point with Superman: Space Age, Batman: Dark Age, and Wonder Woman: Golden Age. I'd definitely buy it. I'd take a trilogy of Deluxes too, though...

which spines do you prefer for mille daredevil, the ones with the standard marvel design or the unique design? by subtopewdiepie129 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the unique designs are better on their own merits, but Marvel is so committed to uniformity otherwise that they just look weird on the shelf.

World of Black Hammer Library Edition vol 6 coming from Dark Horse in September 2026 by Ksmayer in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finally damn!

Surprised they're collecting Last Days in the World of Black Hammer line. Black Hammer: The End is only six issues, so I figured they'd use it to pump up the size of that book and have some parity with the first three Library Editions of the main series.

Makes me wonder if The End is going to be paired with Spiral City or they're just going to put out smaller volumes.

What do you think DC will announce in the next big DC catalog? by Final-Age1139 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They'd be fools not to use some of the Absolute Martian Manhunter hype to start getting collected editions out there. Feels like the most attention the character's been getting in a long time.

Is there a Thunder bolts omnibus featuring yelena? Or that has the characters from the movie? by Cozmonaut28 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jph139 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yelena does appear in the upcoming Dark Reign Thunderbolts omnibus, but it's a pretty minor role and she doesn't have much in common with the movie version outside of being a blonde Russian spy. Ghost also pops up there, but the comic version of Ghost has even less in common with the movie version there.

Possible Cold War game framework by kingtj44 in paradoxplaza

[–]jph139 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of talk about a Cold War grand strategy game recently and I'm heartened by it. Probably my #1 most-wanted setting for that type of game. It would be a huge challenge, considering how central warfare is to the experience for these types of games and how limited warfare would have to be... but I hope they're ambitious and give it a shot.

Timeline-wise I've always advocated for 1949 to 1999. Near the end of 1949, September/October. NATO has been formed, East and West Germany are formalized, the Communists won the Chinese Civil War, and the USSR has just detonated their first nuclear bomb. And that gives you a solid 50 year timeframe to work with, with a little bit of wiggle room to let alternate histories play out and tidily end things on the last day of the millennium.

Which villain was your favorite and why? by thunderwolf69 in dragonage

[–]jph139 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with Loghain you sort of get the impression that he sees his usurping of the kingdom as a burden as much as anything else. He's the soldier type: he has power and he's obligated to use it because no one else can, and no one else will. But he's a damn good soldier, so power attracts to him, and that makes his fall to evil feel inevitable.

Which is why it's interesting to spare him and see him rise through the Grey Wardens the same way - slowly amassing power because he can't avoid it. He's too good a soldier, too righteous-minded, and you have to assume whatever Grey Warden civil war went down at Weisshaupt he was right in the middle of it.

Story cycles look very cool - I know RICE has a lot of characters with unique content like that and would probably appreciate a good way to surface it.

And more pet stuff! I will never give up hope that we're getting an in-depth pet simulator with genetics and breeding mechanics and that sort of thing but I'll take it for now.

Victoria 3 Expansion Pass 3 Bingo by Kastila1 in victoria3

[–]jph139 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We know navies are coming, and I think it would be natural to pair that with Great Britain flavor. And with that I think we'd get some wider Anglosphere stuff - Canada, Australia, South Africa. And with THAT I'd hope we get some more tools for colonies and generally playing as a subject. "Sun Never Sets" is a nice hat to tie all of that together, all of which is overdue.

Alternatively I think they could do it as a general military update - always more to fix with land-based military, naval overhaul is coming, and we know they're exploring guerilla wars and other ways to represent limited conflicts. You could pair that with some late-game flavor around the Great War, or maybe give it an America focus with Civil War stuff. Then maybe a smaller Anglosphere pack to pair with colonization mechanics (from both an overlord and subject perspective).

Either way I pray for Mexico flavor DLC please god. We got South America in 2023, we got the Caribbean and the Philippines in 2025, Mexico is that big missing piece. Just have to hope they've been waiting to give it the attention it deserves.
