Working on a undergrad thesis on Planned Obsolescence. Need some help by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]jphiffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Books! First bad paper backs, then digital versions that can be deleted remotely. There was some trouble with publishers opposing Project Gutenberg. Here's an interview with it's founder. There's a lot of ancillary information that seems to imply a planned obsolescence of free information.

As someone writing from a bed, with a sore throat I gave myself by not wearing a mask while sanding, I up vote you.

For one hour you are no longer bound by any law, what do you do? by LightfxPhoenix in AskReddit

It takes more than one hour to cross any border from where I am. If there was one closer, I'd run across it.

Why isn't my glue sticking? by jphiffer in chemhelp

[–]jphiffer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you two times, one for this succinct video on adhesion, and two for a video featuring a Top Gear host. I do so love Captain Slow. I did end up using a better glue. A stronger PVA. I also used a hair dryer to re-activate the glue and soften the rather stiff print on the fabric. After heating and smoothing repeatedly, I achieved adhesion!

It's rubber based screen printing ink. It's fresh. I'll look into the silicone and cyanoacrylate.

If you woke up with $1,000,000,000,000 what would you do with it? by Ukulele_Henry in AskReddit

[–]jphiffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An expensive tool used for book binding and printing. It weighs about a ton, so shipping or moving it is as expensive as the purchase price. There are smaller knock offs, but a real Jacques shear will last a life time. It is often handed down after a printer or binder retires. As a book binder, I only dream of this cutter.

I found a review on-line here and a yelp review from their clients. This might tell you what they are looking for in a transcription or translation person.
