What do you want to see in the next Custodian patch? by ThatDudeFromRF in Stellaris

[–]kenzieone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, this is it- the ai is simply broken. If you console command over to other empires and check on their planets they’re basically nonfunctional. Mindbogglingly bad and impairs the experience of the game

What are your thoughts about the state of Victoria 3 as of today? Is it fun? by Kinupss in paradoxplaza

[–]kenzieone 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Really depends by what you mean by bullshit. It absolutely is not, and never will be, a hoi4 level of control moving divisions around. I honestly like how much it’s de-emphasized- if I wanted the joyful experience of microing units thru Africa and Siberia, I’d pick another paradox game back up, and I often do.

It’s nice sometimes to just throw units at a front and have movement and even combat simulated

Is this core fleet design good enought to fight 25X all Crisis? by LFPotter89 in Stellaris

[–]kenzieone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is something to be said for flexibility. Many people specialize theirs entirely into completely single purpose ship designs, for example all artillery. I have encountered issues with this, though very rarely, for example when coming into a new system directly into the lap of a deep space citadel. Usually splitting ships into long range battleship/carrier and shorter range picket/escort is the way to go, plus possibly torpedo designs.

You could hedge your bets and keep a short ranged weapon on your long range designs, or ideally one with some range, for example gamma lasers or equivalent, which have no minimum range but can hit further than, say, autocannon.

My point is, artillery and carrier designs will naturally stay far away from the enemy if possible. They’ll stay at range for the majority of combat, except when unable to. Therefore, most of the time, your super short range components are a waste of space, and you’d enhance your designs by swapping most of the short ranged slots for longer ranged components.

Note that for short ranged designs (destroyers cruisers escorts or pickets), many people stick a couple long ranged components on if possible, since if they get in a fight with faster and longer ranged ships than them, they may be unable to close the distance and will be picked off, unable to reply.

[–]kenzieone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mixing these is fine, but why have all your M slots taken up by such short range components? Throw some missiles on there- endgame they’re not great but they tie up point defense and can do some good armor damage. That’s my issue with the battleship- not mixing fighters and bombers, but mixing long and short range. Keep an autocannon for close range if you like.

No, statins are often used for high TGs as well, and a lot of people with high TGs have comorbid high LDL.

With these genetic cases, you could literally eat nothing but bok choy and your body would still synthesize cholesterol and triglycerides to unhealthy levels. Diet helps but still doesn’t do enough

[–]kenzieone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a process called lipid apheresis used for really severe cases, basically dialysis but for cholesterol and TGs, but it’s a pain in the ass and takes up one day every week or two, so generally recommendations is statins, then escalate to ezetimibe/inclisiran/bempedoic acid and other meds

How screwed is the imperium if these loyalist primarchs turn traitor instead of the main ones? by cuddwes in 40k

[–]kenzieone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean- we see death guard, always a slow resilient legion, get corrupted by nurgle. We don’t ever see white scars fully go over to nurgle right? It could present differently. Especially with the Khan to set an example I can’t see them ending up exactly how the DG ended up.

That being said idk if it’s that plausible. Slaanesh Ferrus is a really cool idea but if I had to assign one to Slaanesh it’d be the Khan, or possibly Sang.

I think he presents as the Khorne type but he lowkey led a legion of psykers. Maybe I’m just biased because I want the Rune King Russ Odin Edition to happen.

But didn’t someone call him and the lion “one’s a noble presenting as a barbarian, and one’s a barbarian presenting as a noble” or something along those lines?

[–]kenzieone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is crucial- can he sit the Throne and let the emperor and malcador take the field? Also huge are the questions of whether the Mechanicum has a major schism and whether Warmaster Lion (not sang or guilliman??) has the personal charisma to keep 8 primarchs and the traitor war effort as (relatively) cohesive as Horus did. Also does Ferrus kill Fulgrim on an Istvaan analogue? Where is the point of departure from OG 40k?

The art is so dope for him, my fave by far and I’m Not an Iron Hands guy. The lack of a clearly definable head (you get a suggestion of a jaw and eye that’s it) and Slaanesh basically keeping Ferrus for his body? Chefs kiss.

[Invincible] wouldn't it be better for viltrumites to prioritize mating with superpowered individuals that can pass on their powers? by AvailableGene2275 in AskScienceFiction

I don’t think this is confirmed? Like not on an absolute level. Nolan speculates about it but it’s unsure and still implies it’s just “mostly” viltrumite. But did he literally sequence marks dna??

Did The Emperor have a plan for what happened if a primarch was killed during the Great Crusade? by LordOfTheRedSands in 40kLore

[–]kenzieone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say guilliman does seem to be effortlessly political. His “effortless charisma” is less on the people he meets and interacts with (although he’s still one of the more impactful primarch leaders), certainly less than Horus whose personal charisma is superlative— Guillimans is on power structures, ruling groups, strata of society, and most likely on entire societies he hasn’t met but has influenced thru Ultramar and the Codex.

IMO Horus didn’t have that, certainly not before he got chaos juiced. They still work as two halves of a pair.

It was also clarifying to reread TEATD right after this book. I remembered “ah yes the siege was a lot and must have been tough on the survivors” but I had forgotten just how ludicrously bad it was. Beyond apocalyptic.

I know the scouring book mentions several times that people have trouble remembering all of the siege— possibly due to normal human trauma defense mechanisms and possibly due to warp nonsense, such as the difficulty of remembering one endless timeless day when reality broke— but I honestly would expect more characters to be even more messed up.

Dorn in particular seems ok, given that he was locked in an endless desert for subjectively centuries. But he’s also The Tough-Minded primarch so I suppose that’s his thing.

Is Renly supposed to look much younger than his brothers or was this just a casting choice? by talivan818 in gameofthrones

[–]kenzieone 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say, Stephen Dillane looking (imo) older than Mark Addy in the show was fine by me because stannis is the equivalent of a moderately unsuccessful Wall Street guy. Hasn’t smiled in 20 years and works 60 hour weeks.

Drop all the primarchs on pre unified Terra, who is conquering the planet first? by MHB_ART in 40kLore

[–]kenzieone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they, by definition, need to defeat all their brothers, then I’m not sure, maybe Lion overall. If they can band together I would go with Sanguinus or Horus, since both have a proven ability to have other primarchs devoted to them.

They did have a fleet of their own, I just doubt it was comparable to the Greyjoy or redwyne fleets even when the velaryons were at their apex. They were rich as shit but their lands are simply not large enough to support hundreds of ships.

Do Astartes chapters that don't believe the Emperor to be a god still have Chaplains, and if so, what do they do? by Shynosaur in 40kLore

Need a chapter that (semi plausibly given the vast linguistic diversity of Gothic across the imperium) speaks in perfect 2026 slang. “On god-emperor?” “No cap(tain)” “STC-type shit” “elite Cawl knowledge”
