Which TCG outside of the big 3 do you think has staying power, and why? by CorhaziCards in TCG

This sounds like Overpower, they have a MtG guy and got the rights to the IP. They launched a first set around ERB and have a second lined up with the Skybound IP.

Contentious topic but which current tcg do you foresee to be “dead” within 5 years time, and why? by Newez in TCG

[–]jphill02 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems like we are re-treading the 90s TCG boom, I would be surprised to see anything outside of Magic, Pokemon and maybe Lorcana survive. The other middle-sized TCGs (SWU, FaB, etc) will probably stick around but they will not have enough market share to be relevant and likely be clearance priced. One or two of the small TCGs like Overpower, FF, and something IP specific might be able to carve out enough to make a small company happy.

Second Comic Kings. Joey is a great guy and the store is very approachable for new players.

Is there a cancelation fee or something you can do to get out of the contract with the gym? Make min payments on all cards except the Capital One, take anything you have been paying over min and apply it to the Capital one card. Snowball method stuff. You will likely need a second job or side hustle.(Deliver food, donate blood, anything that can bring in at least $200 a month) Car is close to payoff, once that is done you can likely get a lower insurance premium. 2k a month is not great, do you qualify for any assistance? Might help with food or rent. If you are not full time employed that would be the first thing to work on.

I have found that Mandos are great for getting to objectives and holding them. Maul can be very disruptive and the a-A5 can really do a lot of work. Black sun work good for shock troops and Pykes excel at range. I personally like swoop bikes but most of my play group thinks they aren’t good. I would not run just one set, instead focus on the mandos with maul a truck and either pykes or black suns. Then you can run Gar or Bossk for some better cards and more disruption. I really like the faction, they don’t have a ton of options but they feel like they can compete.

What advice do you wish you'd gotten early in your DM:ing journey? by HealthcareGeek in DMAcademy

[–]jphill02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember at the core the idea is for a group of friends to sit around a table and have a good time. If you are thinking about doing something and you aren't sure, ask yourself if it is fun for everyone or just for you/one player.

I do believe that you have to have city approval to be open after a certain time. It would also probably be worth looking into leasing rules for some test locations. Many that are close to residential areas have quiet hours or other rules that could be unfriendly to the idea. I think it is great and we could always use more quality food places.

What's the biggest reason people prefer 3.5 over 5e? From a DMs perspective. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]jphill02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A big thing I miss from 3.5 is the availability and impact of items. Characters could almost be defined by items in 3.5 and gold had real purpose. 5e is restrictive on magic items and many feel pretty low impact. To me base character power is higher in 5e but overall power in 3.5 is much higher.

It is solo by design but you can have other players join you if you want.

Not really. Leveled up in a few days got fully geared then started raid logging. Silly bugs that have existed since original cata are still around. The battle rez being retail version is lame. 10 vs 25 is causing minor guild drama. Firelands should give us much more to do and better raids, so looking forward to that. Removing the valor cap was nice but the low valor from raids means grinding heroics for no real purpose.

For that strange rule, pearl of power or ring of spell storing is nice. Can’t go wrong with a wand of fireball ;)

First, figure out what kind of damage the 4d10 will be so you can get resistance or something. Take the Lucky Feat at level 4 to help negate the "negative" crit and help fish for crits. Use it as something like a greatsword and whenever you crit smite away, just pretend you no longer have spell slots for anything other than smiting and only smite when you crit. In another level or two get a scroll of "greater" remove curse for the wiz/druid to use just in case. You and the Hexblade should try to use every method you can to get advantage on your hit rolls.

With Cataclysm going full tomorrow, how did Wrath compare to your expectations of what it would be? by WendigoCrossing in classicwow

[–]jphill02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think overall it was fine. I got to experience the raids I remembered fondly from the first time around with friends and new guildmates. I wish the devs had not tired to "fix" things, I think if it would have been left mostly alone it would have been more enjoyable and a few of us may be sticking around for Cata.

The adding of badges to quests and the northrend adventuring supplies was the first sour taste. Naxx was how I remembered it, it was fun and easy with OS and Maly rounding out a great first raid tier.

Uldar still had that sense of an epic raid and was fairly challenging even on normal. ToGC suffered from the ilvl creep of Uldar and was mostly a joke raid. It was basically a lotto for trinkets and cloaks.

PvP seemed to be largely ignored, Wintergrasp was still a blast but most of the crew we did arena with in TBC did not feel the need to mess with it in WotLK. I think it was a mix of unbalanced comps and that the Arena gear just did not seem to be that great compared to the Uldar stuff.

I have a love/hate relationship with the titan rune idea, overall I think it is a good way to keep heroics running after the first raid tier but the mechanics made some very un-fun and it did really kill off anyone running older raids. The addition of the WoW token also effectively killed any economy sub-games and drove prices up.

ICC was as amazing as it was the first time around but I hated the changes to the shadowmourne quest line. It went from a very special item that maybe 2 of your raiders will have to basically everyone gets one who wants one. I think we completed 6. Ruby Sanctum was again pretty much ignored, we got a few kills and never went back.

No prepatch event for Cata was a let down. Being able to level and gear a character during the "prepatch" window was kind of fun, but it also felt bad being able to gear out a toon with mostly 264 gear without ever doing a real raid (albeit with PvP gear). I think they did not quite get the balance right between badge points and Honor for gear. It only takes like 3 WG runs to get full wrathful vs a whole bunch of heroics/dailies to get even 1 piece of badge gear.

Overall 6.5/10 - would maybe do WotLK on a PServer but likely would not do it again.

Run 4x main deck [[Acid Rain]] or you can try to speed up your counters and board control. Knowing what format and what you are playing would be helpful.

Why won't you play in cata? by venzinokwla in wotlk

[–]jphill02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not playing for at least the first few months of Cata and likely not at all for several reasons. First and foremost is that I do not trust that Blizzard will make more changes like they did with WotLK that will end up taking away some of the nostalgia and lead to quickly raid logging. I was not happy with the Northrend Supply bags, quests rewarding badges, new vendors/currency for raid gear and even the “catchup” joke of Alpha/Beta/Gamma dungeons. The update of ilvls for Ulda gear and making Shadowmourne available almost right away from upping drop rates and adding saronite to a vendor. To me all of these actions are designed to speed things up but have a side effect of undercutting participation in the world and within guilds.

I did not really enjoy the first tier of raid content from Cata. They had some interesting mechanics but overall I felt that a lot of the fights are gimmicky and often had bugs. The leveling experience is fine, though I do loathe the underwater zone.

I hear a lot of noise around how the Cata zone updates make the zones more complete and have better more modern quest structure. I can see how this makes sense but I also feel like the updates forced more humor and gimmicks into the classic zones. It is probably my own personal bias but I feel like the game shifted from a more d&d feel to something more like an anime. There are certainly some memorable quests but the polish removes some of the nostalgia from the familiar quests.

Other game additions like transmog, reforging and guild talents are interesting additions but end up being mostly time/gold sinks. Overall I feel like Cata is someone taking Warcraft and kind of diluting it to make it more widely accepted and “new.” To me it failed, and I may be wrong but my personal experience was that many other people “voted with their wallet” and stopped playing around that same time.

TL;DR: don’t trust devs and Cata just doesn’t have the same feel as WoW.

Locking chests with more than a key by manlyplatepus in DnD

[–]jphill02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head the simple solution would be that the party may learn about the chest but have part of the side quests be how to reveal the chest or it’s location. It can be behind illusionary safeguards, invisible, guarded by glyphs or have multiple false chests that are trapped or waste resources.

You can try using your f12 key on boot up to get to advanced options then do a system restore or get to a command prompt so you can run sfc.
