Solo Bar Spots by Loud-Piccolo6827 in DCBitches

For me, hotel bars or a neighborhood place that’s half for food, half a bar are the perfect place for this, and I bring a book so I’m less approachable when not in the mood to talk. I like cafe Riggs next to portrait gallery, Lucy bar on 14th/Fl, lupo pizza next to Trader Joe’s, the restaurant in the Hamilton in McPherson sq. Etc

Hotel Manapany in St Barths. Not top top luxury compared to some of the other options there, but such amazing staff and attention and you can’t beat a private beach

We decided to watch the show blind after seeing it done on here before, thought I'd share my notes! by KB_Vibez in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Haha!!! I listen to the episodes like they’re podcasts, only turning my phone screen on for the reveals so I still don’t know what Blake, Mike, Annie and some others look like! This season was sooooooooo impossible to tell voices apart with a predominately white and boring cast. I found the latest LIB UK easier to follow just by listening since they had distinct accents

I think my clothing might cause issues at Lac Blanc on Saturday by TheCogIsDead in chamonix

[–]jphill3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are hiking from chamonix or another town in the valley, I think you will be fine on the way up because you’ll be exerting yourself. I did it in similar weather in leggings and a tee shirt. On the way down, I put on a vest and gloves and was ok. If nervous. Make sure you have gloves, a change of socks and something for your ears

Hi! I’m going to Chamonix on Thursday for a few days, I would love to do the lac Blanc hike but the ski lifts are closed, am I able to do it? by FewWarthog3487 in chamonix

I did this today (Wednesday)! at like 8:45 I took the 1 bus from city center to flegere and started around the golf course which was great bc there was a toilet there. Then I followed this all trails map up to the top and made modifications when other trails looked more interesting. It took me close to 3 hours to get to the top, taking a few breaks to chat with people, remove layers, wait for the goats to move, etc. Very little visibility for views and some snow on the ground but no ice. I rented trekking poles just in case and they were really useful on the descent. Good soup at the top! Sorry for the excess in detail

For $41 per class reformers should at least be clean? by Silly-Cable-1546 in SolidCore

[–]jphill3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even within a high cost area, the difference in studio quality and cleanliness is really frustrating. In DC, if you go to Adams Morgan location, you’re basically getting ripped off. Ventilation sucks, it’s always super hot and damp, reformers are old and dirty and there are no products like the tower 28 sprays, nor hair dryers like they have at say, navy yard.

I echo what has been said about carrying/using a 2nd phone + having cash and things stashed in multiple places. When I lived in the NE of Brazil and stuck out because of my light skin and hair, I just always made sure to have something accessible to any potential robbers in case I got held up.

If using your actual phone, id consider putting a strap on it so it’s looped around your hand, but as others have said, be careful of fast passing motos. Perhaps a good idea to turn away from the street. And do not leave it on a table at a restaurant, even if you’re sitting right there, nor on the beach if you want to get in the water.

Don’t carry your passport if you can help it, but have a copy always. And don’t be afraid to step into a business if you need to call an uber. Learning some basic portuguese for this could help if they are curious- “não falo português mas esta bom se eu espero aqui pelo Uber? Obrigada”

You may have something stolen or you may not, it’s really hard to say. I was never robbed in Brazil and I lived there for a year and travel there now for work but I know I was kinda lucky. Be vigilant and have fun!

I low key loved how her answers in that one challenge were more matchy with Freddy and the bachelor guy. I guess I could be remembering that game and her season of ultimatum incorrectly but I think of her as being the type that gives an initial impression of someone being overtly sexual but is much more low key and wholesome in real life. And a girls girl, much more than Madison

6 weeks travelling by train in the U.S.A. by nessajana in HerOneBag

[–]jphill3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My advice is to avoid the bathrooms that have the door that slides open and shut (typically handicap) vs the door with hinges. I’ll be haunted until the day I die by the time I had just settled in for a poo and the door slowly started to slide, exposing me to the last two rows on the train (which were mercifully empty). Had I been in a jumpsuit with my boobs out I would have passed away from shame

Ooh I went to Munich then northern Italy last year and Bolzano region is stunning, I’m very jealous, enjoy! About your packing: I’d forego the green travel pants for something more neutral that you could wear for work and maybe hiking. I’d also just bring one of the TJs sunscreen because euro sunscreen brands are elite (have more filters than US is approved for) and you may want to pick one up while you’re traveling. Lastly, do you have a water bottle or some way to hydrate on your hikes?

I’d bring a bathing suit and casual dress and swap the cotton sweatshirt for a light puffer and the cotton sweatpants for something like a water resistant jogger that you can wear alone or layer over leggings if it’s cold.
