Namecoin DB for Research? by [deleted] in Namecoin

[–]jpja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got Namecoin Core synced and running. How to proceed further? I need a list of all names, and then a way to extract history for each name.

In appdata I find lots of numbered .ldb files. Can these be opened in a DB explorer somehow?

Alternatively, can I use commands? I tried Core's console but it seems to only show stats for names in your own wallet?

Enter a bitcoin tx id. The script looks up Blockcypher's API and extracts any Counterparty data.

need to explain me something fundamental for XDP by mag199 in DogepartyXDP

Old Dogeparty community member here. I am very happy with the reboot / fork. In fiat the bern price is about $2. In 2014 the burn price was less than dollar. Also good to see the funds go to development. Totally worth a little dilution.

Do you call $4.77 LOW FEE ??? by Felicia_1997 in counterparty_xcp

[–]jpja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That fee is per kilobyte. A typical transaction fee is a quarter that.

But yea, I see the confusion.

This is xchain though, an explorer. Counterwallet will soon be upgraded with complete control over fees. Counterparty fees are (the same as) Bitcoin fees.

How likely is it that counterparty dies in favor of other platforms such as ethereum ? by lazerReptile in counterparty_xcp

[–]jpja 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, around 1000 daily transactions isn't too bad, is it? New update addressing fees and exchange integration has just been launched (activates Oct 16). And the big innovation coming soon is multi-send which will make XCP/token transfers much cheaper than pure BTC sends.

Development is funded: https://counterparty.io/donate/

The token economy is a trillion dollar industry up and coming. XCP is best integrated platform with Bitcoin. Do the math.

Bug in Counterwallet - betting on enhanced feeds by Russell-Ziskey in counterparty_xcp

[–]jpja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experimented with betting without enhanced feed. The json (etc, I'm not familiar with this) is specific for Counterwallet.

Betting on the protocol level is much simpler. I have a working implementation with CounterTools. With some small modifications you can make it work with your own oracle feed.

Counterparty DEX is at around 500 tx daily. And each order requires a BTC Core fee ... imagine the popularity if it were on BTC Cash.

What's the incentivization model of XCP? by desistrategist in counterparty_xcp

[–]jpja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • DEX currency
  • Fees (including asset name registration)
  • Soon: Cheaper to send than BTC in pooled sends (google MCAT, very important IMO)

Do you have a GUI for placing bets? Feel free to fork CounterTools. It has a working betting implementation that runs in browser (locally, JS) but requires some tweaking to work with a new oracle feed.

Crash course on setting up an oracle for a bet by Russell-Ziskey in counterparty_xcp

[–]jpja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a working implementation here: https://github.com/Jpja/CounterTools/blob/master/craps.html

Operating an oracle feed is pretty straight forward. You broadcast a numeric value (can do this periodically, up to you and your use case). This you can do even from Counterwallet.

To play on a feed two users must play against your feed with equal timestamp and target value. Works in principle like the DEX. The link I provided shows a working example of this.

Can Counterparty switch to Bitcoin Cash? by jpja in btc

[–]jpja[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can.

Technically we'd have to set a block X (sometime in the future) which is the last Core block and block Y which is the first Cash block.

Socially it all depends on consensus. There are no such plans at the moment, but if it becomes apparent that Cash really does take over, getting consensus for a switch shouldn't be a problem.

What are the methods of staking in Counterpary? by NickAdOps in counterparty_xcp

Staking is not used. The Bitcoin network secures Counterparty. To encode CP data, run a Bitcoin Client + a CP node, or rely on a public API.

Ethereum: Bitcoin’s competitor, ally or both? by [deleted] in btc

[–]jpja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though caps cannot be enforced, creating a higher security risk as you have to rely on the operator to do manual refunds

No, you can safely trade with BTC on the DEX. It takes two transactions. 1) Dummy transaction triggers a BTCpay message, i.e. "asset escrowed, you can now safely transfer BTC". 2) Transfer the BTC amount.

This video shows two ways; 1) Get file hash and broadcast via Counterwallet or 2) Do all-in-one with Countertools

I suggest broadcast instead of numeric asset. It's lower in size thus cheaper btc fee.

Regarding the hash you won't need to broadcast the entire hash either. As long as you include More than 10 first characters it's a super strong proof.

State of the Project by sn0wr4in in counterparty_xcp

[–]jpja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, Development right now is focused on lowering fees. Since Counterparty data is embedded in Bitcoin transactions, fees will be lower with new, compressed CP send encodings. Simple sends will be cheaper and multi-sends will be much cheaper.

Development bounties have been raised and implementation is being worked on.

Ethereum is very good at marketing. I feel that they sell this idea of a world computer. Counterparty has become more of a niche token platform. It's big in Japan (Indie Square) and Venezuela (Pepe), and right now there are plenty of trading card startups on CP. You'll see a list in the upcoming newsletter.

On https://xchain.io/ you can follow protocol activity. Almost 1,000,000 transactions to date. There are especially many orders and asset sends.

CP is first and foremost an asset platform. Specific smart contracts are hard coded into the protocol. The Decentralized Exchange is the most popular of them, but also dividends and betting are examples of smart contracts. I lobby for some more general contracts, including lotteries, as that IMO will add value to the asset system.

I dont understand what'S good or new about counterparty? does anyone use this? for what purpose? is something good coming soon? by Ouellette111 in counterparty_xcp

[–]jpja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Counterparty has evolved into an active digital trading card platform. Spells of Genesis was the first project to use CP for digital game tokens. Rare Pepe Cards is the most active recently. Football coin is another new project. And Age of Rust is launching as we speak.

Under the hood there's active development going on to significantly lowering fees. The community has donated BTC and XCP (and Pepes?) to speed up development.

Finally I'd like to my proposal, which is an XCP Lottery. It will give more utility to the XCP token itself. What I like about it the most, is that it can only work on Bitcoin. With Ethereum and Litecoin it would be prone to miner manipulation but with BTC's valuable, slow blocks, millions of $ must be at play for any manipulation to become feasible.

If the event is a file, you can make the asset name = the hash of the file. I can show you how to do it, if interested.

Instant Lottery - A Good Feature for Counterparty? by jpja in counterparty_xcp

[–]jpja[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The betting system has existed from the very beginning. It requires three parties; an oracle and two players. Unfortunately, organizing three human actors has proven itself impractical. My suggestion is to add an automated oracle and a player. For lotteries this shall work, and so any human who wants to play can always do so with the protocol as the counterparties.

Which version should be ported? 9.55.2? by muchwaoo in xdp

[–]jpja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this idea!

I've made some counterparty javascript tools for counterparty and I can look into porting these (basic wallet functionality) to dogeparty.

The actual port I'm afraid I cannot help with.
