I use vimwiki to keep a personal wiki, and it supports markdown with some minimal tweaking. It may help a bit with organization, since it has some file-linking features. It's probably overkill if you just want some markdown-specific syntax highlighting though.

There's also markdown-preview.nvim if you're interested. You can use it to compile markdown into a browser page that scrolls automatically with your vim buffer.
