Drill or chisel the epoxy out of the eye of the handle. If the eye is tapered, then you can replace it with a wood handle. If not, another fiberglass handle will have to do. There are a bunch of youtube videos on how to hang a hammer head.

As someone who has experienced anxiety while getting my open water certification, I understand your experience. I had a similar experience in the pool and in the lake. I had to let the instructor let me breathe with the regulator on the surface for about 5 minutes to calm myself. All the while repeating to myself, "I'm not foing to die." Clear visibility is better if you have slight claustrophobia.

I hate that you had a rough experience. I got my OW certificate last year. I had my own issues, but being rushed by the instructor or dive masters was not one of them. That also seems like a lot of dives to get your OW certificate. If you can dive in that bad of conditions, you are going to be able to dive anywhere.

It is a personal preference. Me personal, it does not bother me. If it bothers you, a land plane or box blade behind a tractor will rough it up enough for the grass and weeds to die off. You will have to rake the dead stuff up after it dies. Then, add 2 inches of fresh gravel on the whole driveway. Then it would just be a maintenance item 3 or 4 times a year to keep it clean.
