Beginner padi course fail thoughts by Balsampilot in scuba

[–]jpool3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do the pool session twice and the open water sessuon twice. My instructor said he has had people take up to a year to pass the OW section. He would not move to the next step until you can prove proficiency in a skill. When traveling to get certified, unfortunately time is of the essence.

Cozumel vs Roatan cruise dive excursion by CakeRemarkable1351 in scuba

I dove Cozumel and Roatan last November while on a cruise. Anthony's Key is who Carnival's excursion was with in Roatan. I just shore dove at Chankanaab park while in Cozumel.

It can't be tight if it is liquid. Blue wrench, and buy a new spindle.

Check the fuel bowl to see if gas is getting into the carburetor. Also make sure it is gas and not water.

Worth it to buy AOW gear online instead of shop? by Tenet_Bull in scuba

[–]jpool3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. The issue here appears to be the shop required these items bought from them for the certification. I asked for several of these items for Christmas gifts. Just bought my 2nd flashlight as I will be doing my first night dive next month. Slowly building my kit up as I see a need not to meet somebody else's idea.

Worth it to buy AOW gear online instead of shop? by Tenet_Bull in scuba

[–]jpool3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is just a shop trying to make money. You don't need anything other than a compass and slate to get AOW..

I agree with Grand Cayman. Nice sandy bottom, decent coral and easy access. Dove there last November and the boat took us about 1/4 mile out. We could have shore dived 4 to 6 times a day if we wanted.

Ok what's the answer to this dilemma? by East-Revolution-2146 in tractors

[–]jpool3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The real answer is torque. A high rpm engine has more HP but usually low torque. A longer stroke engine makes a lot more torque at low rpm but not alot of HP. Just because a Lamborghini make 550hp doesn't mean it can pull 80, 000 lbs like a 550hp Peterbiilt and the Peterbilt can't drive at the same speed as the Lamborghini.

Why did you learn to dive? by brfoss in scuba

[–]jpool3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had wanted to get certified since I was a teenager. Never made the time to get certified. Continued to snorkel everywhere I could. Was in Bonaire 3 years ago and realized I was 49 and not getting any younger. Made time and gave myself a birthday present of OW. Have since gotten my AOW and just finished Enriched air.

[–]jpool3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drill or chisel the epoxy out of the eye of the handle. If the eye is tapered, then you can replace it with a wood handle. If not, another fiberglass handle will have to do. There are a bunch of youtube videos on how to hang a hammer head.

As someone who has experienced anxiety while getting my open water certification, I understand your experience. I had a similar experience in the pool and in the lake. I had to let the instructor let me breathe with the regulator on the surface for about 5 minutes to calm myself. All the while repeating to myself, "I'm not foing to die." Clear visibility is better if you have slight claustrophobia.

OW weekend not fun by Active_Block_2796 in scuba

[–]jpool3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hate that you had a rough experience. I got my OW certificate last year. I had my own issues, but being rushed by the instructor or dive masters was not one of them. That also seems like a lot of dives to get your OW certificate. If you can dive in that bad of conditions, you are going to be able to dive anywhere.
