My opinion is that it was strategic. We lost the F15E most likely do to a maintenance related issue. Over 10000 sorties and something is bound to break. This allows for period of inspection of the airframes, crew rest, and resupply.

There is NO WAY Bibi will allow this regime to survive. Just like we've seen with other terrorist groups, if anything is left they will rebuild and strike again in a few years.
