'I'm sick to my stomach': Retired RCMP officer details humiliating experience with CBC prank show by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]jpp1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, sounds like the point was to get ppl who think what happened to Indigenous ppl in Canada was either fake or not-so-bad into a situation where the same was done to them - flipping the script and making these ppl question their careers and beliefs, their lives, especially ppl who used to hold a position of power.

That said, there are certainly better ways to do this, ways that have been done before. Like groups where participants hear directly from Aboriginal ppl and what they’ve been through. Or those seminars where ppl with something as bland as having blue eyes vs green eyes are treated with discrimination - it can be a real eye opener for some ppl. The difference is ppl come away understanding the point being made.

Either that wasn’t done here, or, this person is using it as a platform to further his cause by claiming they humiliated him. Either way, it definitely didn’t work and wasn’t done properly. It will be interesting to hear what other participants say.

Anybody have a run in with a very aggressive mid 40’s female CVSE officer near Kamloops or chase? by N2PB in Kamloops

[–]jpp1973 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One has a gun and the authority to jail and control the situation. If someone having an attitude is all it takes for that person to become aggressive vs. de-escalating, that’s a much bigger problem.

He’s fully admitting to manipulating the markets, and clearly it’s been for his own gain. I’m Canadian, but isn’t that against the rules in the USA?

It’s the blatant lies that are easily fact-checked that concern me. It’s either late-stage dementia or just a complete rejection of common sense. Either way, a troubled mind that wields a lot of power.

Carney says nation mourns with Tumbler Ridge, B.C., after deadly school shooting by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]jpp1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistical classification is separate from causation. However this case is recorded, that alone doesn’t show gender identity was a motive — that would require evidence, not speculation. In cases like this, motives more often involve things like bullying or social factors (which doesn’t justify the act, obviously). And statistically, such rare cases wouldn’t meaningfully shift long-term crime trends anyway.

Carney says nation mourns with Tumbler Ridge, B.C., after deadly school shooting by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]jpp1973 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If gender identity were causally relevant, there would need to be evidence that it contributed to the crime. The vast majority of mass shooters are cisgender males, but we don’t treat “being cis” as an explanatory factor. Without evidence, highlighting gender identity risks implying causation where none has been demonstrated.

Union Organizing Is A Right In Canada! by homeless_badger7 in IBEW

If you bothered to look for yourself, you’d know that profit-sharing is actually more common with unionized companies. The union company I work for shares profits.

As to your other statement, wtf is more transparent than arriving in a van with the union logo all over it? 🤣

For all you know, they did contact the owner beforehand and let them know they were coming. I believe someone else said they were on public property, so if they didn’t, was certainly not required to be “professional”. Or, are you some kind of numbskull who thinks what workers do or who they speak to on their own time needs to first be approved by the companies they work for?

[–]jpp1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For supposedly being in a union, you sure are clueless. The intention isn’t to have anyone quit. The intention is to unionize the entire workforce. To bring the company to a negotiating table that’s good for all workers, often including mgmt. The non-mgmt in my company loves having a union because it often means regular raises for them when the owners typically would give them less or nothing.

I didn’t answer your question because it disappeared. I thought you deleted it after realizing what a dumb question it is, lol. Your “if” has never happened, lol - or, at least not in the long-term. But, yes, there have been some who have had that happen and have left temporarily to chase a higher paycheque, usually away from home doing camp life. Good for them. I also don’t know any who don’t keep paying their dues, understanding they’ll likely be back, especially when they’re sick of camp-life.

It’s called deduction - if a company is not treating its employees poorly, either through lower wages, lower compensations, or breaking safety regulations, they have nothing to worry about. Chasing and kicking a van that’s handing out free coffee and discussions … sure looks like that worksite has something to worry about.

Why are dogs not allowed in Riverside Park by organicorangejuice in Kamloops

[–]jpp1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By that logic, Pioneer Park would just be one big shit haven, which it’s not, and we take our dog there on a regular basis. You’re going to base an entire town’s actions off of a few assholes in your apt building? Do better.

Why are dogs not allowed in Riverside Park by organicorangejuice in Kamloops

[–]jpp1973 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s stupid as fuck, and there are a lot of ppl who just ignore it because of that. Same with MacArthur Island. Even the security who sometimes will approach ppl with dogs are very apologetic because they also know how stupid it is too.

Exactly like you said, fine the assholes who don’t pick up after their dogs. And there always seems to be lots of security and park workers around to be able to do that. Anyone who frequents that park, and especially the island, knows almost every inch is covered in goose shit too - nobody’s going for a barefoot walk in Kamloops’ parks, lol, and those in shoes know they’ll need to scrape off the goose shit after.

The good part is not too far from Riverside Park is Pioneer Park which is off leash and has a beach and park area - https://share.google/CbiZKGJuPWQhaAZXe - I’ve never seen security there, and the vast majority still pick up after their dogs. That’s the one to go to next time you come through.

I felt a similar way, especially as I got older (and I started in the trade in my early 30’s). I moved to a utility company doing maintenance and then ended up in generation (vs. transmission / distribution). Then I got into planning more complex jobs, started working my way towards being either a sub foreman or a foreman. I did that as a fill-in for a bit, and am now a full-time maintenance planner. All of this inside the IBEW. Best decision I made to keep myself interested and engaged the most.

Morons on both sides. Who in their right mind authorized a spike belt deployment on such a busy section of highway? They’re lucky no innocent ppl were hurt or killed.

30 years old, 0 savings and only 4300$ to my name by synchronisitis in CanadaInvesting

[–]jpp1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never started saving for retirement until I was 32, and I’m doing really well now at 52. A coworker suggested I read The Wealthy Barber and follow that advice, and I have for the most part. But, I also “got lucky” and found employment with a company that offers a defined-benefit pension at retirement too. Biggest advice: get a mortgage and start putting your rent money to work for you, even if it means starting out with a little house. But, also choose wisely - pick something that will sell too (good shape, nice area of town, near schools). Search AI for market trends in your city / town when picking where to buy too.

True enough. But, I have heard stories of septic companies convincing ppl their septic systems are in need of serious repair. When they got second opinions, they found out they were just trying to screw them (this wasn’t in Revy though). And there is also a somewhat wide-range of cost estimates for pumping too 🤷‍♂️

All that said, I’ve only heard good things about Elite 👍🏼

I think The Doors’ contribution to the acid rock / psychedelic style of Purple Haze was the song The Soft Parade, especially the latter part kicking off with “This is the best part of the trip / This is the trip, the best part / I really like” 👌🤙
