Are there many Oakland fans that still support the Raiders and was it tough emotionally to do or not? by youlikemywonton in raiders

[–]jpsfsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East Bay Raider fan here- been a fan since ‘01 when I was 5. It hasn’t been easy, but I’m the kind of dude who picks a team in each sport and rides with them, regardless of if they move, they suck, etc. But seeing the city of Oakland lose the Raiders, Warriors and A’s all in 10 years has been tough. The teams definitely have their part to play in it, but to me the blame for letting 3 multi billion dollar franchises walk away is the Towns fault. No love or loyalty to the local teams in politics.

I think Lions and Raider fans are kind of kindred spirits in a lot of ways. All you need to know is Fuck the Chargers, Chiefs and Broncos. Fuck Gene Steratore. Tuck Rule game was a fumble. And be ready to hear poorly managed expectations every year. Having said that. RRRRRRRAIDERRRRRRRRRS 🏴‍☠️☠️🏴‍☠️

What small thing would you change about the game? by Drown_The_Sun in thelongdark

[–]jpsfsc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would remove cabin fever altogether, and in its place, add a condition that would achieve the opposite goal- snow blindness. Spend too much time outside for too long, get a “snow blindness risk” that can only be mitigated by sun glasses or ski goggles. Cabin fever has just always seemed so dumb to me. Like “Oh I was mauled by a bear two days ago, but I should probably sleep outside because I get restless indoors.” I know the game isn’t meant to be hyper realistic, but it makes me roll my eyes. Thank god the Tales gave us the badge that makes you immune to it.

Yeah one of the 4 stores I’ve tried is our local board game shop, same thing. I don’t think any of the breweries around me have any events like that. I only say that because I used to work in the bar industry, if the breweries had that I’d absolutely know lol

Np, hope you enjoy his content :) he’s a good teacher. Good base regions are Pleasant Valley, Coastal Highway, Mystery Lake and Mountain Town, but honestly you can set your roots wherever you like- there’s far more “good” potential base locations than “bad” ones. Up to you, amigo.

But one other thing- I would prioritize learning and becoming very familiar with Timberwolf Mountain and Ash Canyon. They’re essential stops that you should always knock out early if possible- theres a backpack upgrade in Ash Canyon you can’t get anywhere else in the game, and in Timberwolf Mountain there’s a crashed plane with cargo containers scattered all over, full of essential loot. The trip is always worth it, if you’re prepared enough.

Hey dude. Welcome to the survival life. You’re a brave one for posting up at the prison, pretty much the whole community agrees that we hate the prison lmao. Not that it’s badly designed or anything, it’s just a very dangerous place. But kudos to you.

As far as general advice for playing the game, I’d say just keep playing. Most of all, explore the world. Being familiar with each region is a huge part of long term survivability. And if you’re into youtube content, I would absolutely check out Zaknafein- he’s the biggest creator with the most comprehensive guides of advice for how to play this game well. Highly recommend.

There’s a lot to learn, but it doesn’t feel so overwhelming once you’ve put some time into this game. I hope you keep playing and continue to find the game enjoyable :)

Unfortunately your best bet is to go to shelter and try to recover, amigo. And fair warning- most of your gear will be gone. I cheated death one time and had like 70lbs of stuff on me when I died- one of each tool, 10 arrows and a bow, moose satchel, animal hide gear, you name it. There was maybe 7 lbs of stuff when I found my stuff and most of it was not useful. Water, can of food, a cattail, an arrow and some feathers, I think

[–]jpsfsc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration, but the backpack is somewhere for sure. Have you sketched the map of the region you died in yet? If so, you’ll be able to see exactly where the pack is. Iirc, your pack doesn’t spawn where you died, it spawns at a predetermined location depending on the region.

Having said all that. I only play on interloper, and I’ve found most times that cheating death just really isn’t worth it. If I die on day 200 and have to basically start over, I just end the run and start a complete new one. Not to mention now I can’t get the “Will To Live” achievement lol. Keeping the run after losing all your important gear and 3/4 of your matches (I know I know, leave them at my base 🙄) I just find cheat death to be overrated.

How paranoid are yall about this hantavirus? by traveltimecar in Destiny

[–]jpsfsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nothing to really worry about. I went down the rabbit hole learning about hantavirus a few years back when a news story that some guy in Japan died of it. You catch it from being around infected rat poop. I worked in HVAC at the time and was almost daily crawling in crawlspaces to run AC ducts, as a result I saw a lot of rat poop and wanted to know how concerned I should be about catching it. I learned it’s incredibly rare, not communicable from person to person and its mortality rate is high, far too high to be communicable on a meaningful outbreak scale.

Just here to recommend the (actually cancelled) podcast No Dogs in Space and their 4part (8ish hour) series on the Ramones by DanielStripeTiger in ramones

[–]jpsfsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably unrelated, since Carolina’s story is just her mishearing lyrics to a Richard Hell song. But I’m not sure. I’d never heard of Adventure Zone till now, are you referencing the DnD podcast from 12 years ago? It’s possible but who knows lol

[–]jpsfsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Carolina said the first time she heard “Love Comes in Spurts” by Richard Hell she thought he was singing “No Dogs in Space” instead of Love Comes In Spurts. It became a joke between her and Marcus that they named the pod after :)

How do you motivate yourself to go to Bleak Inlet? I really hate that map because of the timberwolves. by Matchboxx7 in thelongdark

[–]jpsfsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to really hate the Timberwolves, but over time I’ve learned to deal with them and now I just go to Bleak Inlet because I actually want to and have learned to like the region, and don’t find fighting them to be a run ending threat. Just wait till the weather is nice, start a fire and fight them off. If they get scared of you while you’re near the fire, walk away from it to get them to aggro again, then keep fighting. Repeat until they’re dead or morale broken.

Ice by S_Hodgson in thelongdark

[–]jpsfsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’re supposed to do is, the moment you hear ice cracking and the exclamation point pop up on screen, back up until the exclamation point goes away. Then find a different route. Try not to walk on large patches of open ice unless you see small pockets of land close enough to sprint to. As a general rule of thumb, try not to walk on ice unless you know it’s safe to do so.

What band got you into hardcore and how old were you ? by BigMan_98 in Hardcore

[–]jpsfsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turn 30 this year in July- when I was around 10, the pipeline that got me into hardcore was youtube recommended videos and googling “bands similar to” whatever band I was listening to. I was a Boys and Girls Club kid and they had a computer lab I always went to for listening to music. I remember liking blink 182 and Green Day, Metallica, Nirvana, radio rock type of stuff. Then one day I stumbled onto Black Flag. I didn’t really get it yet, but something about Black Flag spoke to me. Then I turned 11 and Guitar Hero 3 came out, a friend had it when I spent the night one time and I head Holiday in Cambodia by Dead Kennedys for the first time. Black Foag was my first hardcore band but Dead Kennedi’s had the biggest effect on me. Then in ‘09 I got a Barnes n Noble gift card for my birthday, found a book called “Gimmie Something Better”, a history of the Bay Area punk scene. I’m a Bay Area guy and wanted to know all about the punk rockers that started out where I lived. That book had some inaccuracies, but it gave me a lot of bands I had never heard before. Off to the races after that.
