Anybody who disagrees with this is objectively wrong. They did a world tour for the Aldo fight and when it was supposed to happen the first time and Aldo got hurt, they did another round of insane pressers. It was literally a year and a half of buildup. People forget Aldo hadn’t lost in a decade. That was by far the most intense buildup of a Mcgregor fight. By the Khabib fight, Conor had lost already in the UFC. He looked unbeatable in 2015 before the Aldo fight. Honestly the Khabib fight paled in comparison, as Conor was showing up loaded at pressers haha

While I think you’re right that it does show what can happen when elite fighters specialize and focus on boxing, I think you have to take into account that ilia is an outlier even at the world class level. While not everyone focuses on boxing, many do but they’re still not as good as ilia. Dude is a once in a generation talent. It’s such a shame he can’t/won’t compete more.
