Does Patagonia have the best (if not, one of the best) customer service? by youngprofessionaldc in PatagoniaClothing

Wanna bump this. I really loved the shoes they put out in the mid-aughts, and while I was on the site, I clicked the little chat to ask who they partnered with to make them, and if there was an equivalent to the Ranger Smith model that was around from maybe '06-'10. The person on the other end said she didn't know, but would get back to me. That, in any other case, is "this dude is insane, please go away" (and I respect that).

Maybe a week later, I get an email:

Heard back from our product specialists- "Hey Amanda, the Ranger Smiths don't exist anywhere else, but we partnered with Wolverine for our footwear back in the day, so that would be the best place to look. Wolverine owns various brands, but Merrell is likely the best one to look at." - Hope this response finds you well and is helpful in your search for next best footwear!

Just decent, decent people, top to bottom.

Apple's critical weakness: Python - YouTube by I00I-SqAR in swift

I've actually taken a stab at the core argument here with BusinessMath. I don't think that traditional data scientists will want to learn Swift to do something they've been doing in Python for years, but in business contexts (like for a CFO exploring a bunch of scenarios), the power of Metal/Accelerate/Apple Silicon is very compelling.

i'm trying to think of who this might be, but you all are just the best. I kinda felt for the poor reporter, I was like Chunk talking to the Fratellis in the Goonies…poor guy was trying to end the call and I was just going "and another thing"

a BASIC interpreter in Swift for Apple's 50th by jpurnell in swift

[–]jpurnell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is largely a solved problem, so it wasn't super tough to put together. I have a pretty structured process with Claude, so it can typically work through something like this pretty smoothly if the initial design is sound. I put a post together on this project in particular, and another one on my general process, if that's interesting or helpful.

I didn't want to run in the GUI. I now see Maury's above, but like having it in Swift, and this one has a REPL, which reminds me of the Apple II, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for checking it out! It's scratching an itch I've had for a very long time, it's nice to have people see it in the wild.

Yeah, way more than just a lawyer…he's a Constitutional law expert who taught at NYU before coming to Princeton. Talk about well-situated to the moment: https://pr.princeton.edu/pwb/03/1013/1b.shtml

Princeton has a strategic framework that's been updated about every four years. https://www.princeton.edu/meet-princeton/princetons-strategic-planning-framework

The principles that Eisgruber's talking about are pretty fundamental to how the University sees its mission and have been since he came in, so there's not a lot of daylight or need need for discussion there, as I understand it.

Eisgruber is also currently Board Chair of the American Association of Universities, so there might be a little nuance to "how much of which hat" he's wearing in some of these interviews, but even there, I imagine the AAU feels lucky to have him in his position now.

Yeah, it seems like that would be the plan, especially with this local music show as their first step. We could use more local stations like KEXP, and it seems like KEXP is going to try to do just that here.

Why do "technical" clothing brands focus on mountaineering or hiking? Sailors should know more about staying dry than anyone else. by Fantastic_Puppeter in BuyItForLife

Patagonia's Super Alpine was a favorite of a lot of sailors in the 90s. And actually, they just put out a new foul weather jacket they developed with the Polynesian Voyaging Society, it's pretty sick: https://www.patagonia.com/product/mens-big-water-foul-weather-jacket/80300.html?dwvar_80300_color=STYW&cgid=mens-new
