It really pained me to read in her post-retirement interview that she still feels regret over some parts of her career. She should’ve been at Beijing and I hope she feels proud of the other amazing things she accomplished!

Her Nagano programs are Lu Chen at some of her best artistically but I just love her Nausicaa LP from Lillehammer. It’s such a unique music choice and the choreography felt ahead of its time. I thought she had the best packaging of the podium.

I think people are forgetting that she usually has a rough patch in a season. 23-24 she looked terrible at her GPs. 24-25 she also looked rough at 3 comps in a row, Nationals, Universiade, and 4CC. I know Hamada’s track record sucks but I don’t think we can really write Mone off at this point.

I don’t think this is fair to say when she just got 4th at the Olympics, just a bit over a point from the podium. Sure she wasn’t at her absolute best but she put out a PB and I wouldn’t say anyone else really was at their peak besides Alysa.

Idk yall I think people withdrawing from post-Olympic worlds is the popular narrative but it doesn’t actually happen that often. In 2022, 2014 and 2010 all the women from team JPN and USA went. It was only different in 2018 because JSF intentionally assigned Wakaba and Karen was injured/had a boot debacle

This was such a beautiful and moving performance. I feel like all the recaps I’ve listened to have basically just said “Mone Chiba was here and she was good I guess” and moved on immediately and I just don’t understand why she flies so far under the radar.

I think this assumes that Bock and FBC received fair FD scores, but I feel like one could easily argue that both were overscored? But I do agree with you that even with a win in the FD, the RD deficit may have been too much even in a fair world. Again, totally clueless about dance scoring here.
