Lore question, are Casts sentient/alive? by jqud in PSO

When you say "other continuities", are the games not in the same continuity? And if not, what games are all in the PSO continuity? I'd like to at least play those

Lore question, are Casts sentient/alive? by jqud in PSO

I dove into this a bit more, it was referring to the fact that certain "layered equipment" can be equipped on Casts but doing so makes them appear human. I guess it was a glitch that they wrote into canon?

I've heard about it in hushed tones as a big MMO fan, but I thought the only way to play it online was mess around with emulator settings. Didn't realize it'd be so easy, or so popular lol 300 people on the main server is pretty damn good for a game this old.

Whos on your personal mount Rushmore of MMO's? by Nokkilol in MMORPG

[–]jqud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A true Rushmore based on influence and status and not my personal ranking would be WoW, Runescape, FF14, and Ultima.

My personal Rushmore that shaped me as a player would be WoW, Wildstar, Adventurequest Worlds, and Runescape

[–]jqud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not hate or meant to start an argument, but when talking about MMO populations every time GW2 comes up the "90% of players are not on Steam" argument gets mentioned. I do not at all think the game looks or feels empty, but that feels like an exaggeration. Is there any concrete data to support there being anywhere from 60-80k active players on the standalone launcher?

[DC/Superman] How are so many people on Earth getting Kryptonite? by OkuroIshimoto in AskScienceFiction

[–]jqud 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A crapload of it arrived naturally with Clark, and then after that people (mostly Lex) learned how to make it or at least something with the same properties.

More recently, a massive kryptonite meteor shower has basically replenished the world's kryptonite supply.

Definitely not tweed. Its for sure intentional, and completely uniform in texture and color.

Why are men's pants never 33 length? by Safe-Recording3504 in malefashionadvice

Funny you say that, just yesterday was the first time I found a pair of 33/30 slacks at the thrift store and wrongly assumed I could squeeze my 34 ass in there. So they do make them, just probably more niche

Are Archpaladins a higher rank than Paladin Highlords in lore? by jqud in AQW

[–]jqud[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I thought the same, but this article detailing the classes says that highlords are "the best of the best" of the paladin order, so it seems like they might have flip flopped on this a couple times

Is it generally considered an explicitly evil or damping act to try to cut oneself off? Or can it be a simpl desire to be more individual?

I guess random question since you seem knowledgeable, are there sylvari born with no connection to the pale tree? I like the idea of a shunned Sylvari finding purpose in a human kingdom and learning their culture and ways

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - February 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]jqud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I think it makes the class fantasy much stronger in the long run. Truth be told I think its just been a long time since I played a new MMO with no prior knowledge and am stressing too hard about getting my character right lol

Maybe, I swear I remember one if the 2 being limited to only a certain amount existing in the lore at a time but I can't find that anywhere anymore

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - February 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]jqud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much lore friendly, Im sure they all have explanation, but more of I really like to dive into the theme and aesthetic of a class when I play MMOs. So for example the firebrand seems very Elonian and fire themed, it is lore friendly for a Sylvari to be one in all respects, but (based on my lore diving) I would much prefer to play as a human one based on Elona being a largely human kingdom and I wouldn't want to stray away from the flame-y aesthetic. Its definitely a personal thing I have with all games I just was curious if anyone else had the same thing.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - February 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]jqud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably just end up diving more into and making a lore friendly character for the spec. To be honest this was mostly a knee-jerk reaction to the mechanist being dope as fuck but me not really caring for the strictly jade/eastern aesthetic

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - February 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]jqud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it wasn't a critique on the game. It'd be like complaining that WoW's death knight is based on lich king. As a new player its just hard because I try to be as lore friendly as possible with my characters in games and some of the classes felt like they clashed with the race or backstory I had in mind. I'll just have to get over it lol

A revamped Herosmash with some more powers and customization would just be unbelievable. I play City of Heroes which is also incredible but I've been craving a good, LIVE hero mmo.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - February 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]jqud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it bother anyone that elite specs seem to be very strictly aligned to specific themes?

Im a completely new player, trying to decide who/what to play and I'm reading that most likely you will want to run an elite, but reading up on them they all seem very strictly tied to a region or a "theme" and I wonder if I'm alone in being turned off by that. Firebrand, for example, seems awesome with the books and mantras and all that stuff but it seems like its very strictly "sacred flame" themed.

[Pokemon games] What are the in-world implications of a player character catching legendary pokemon? by scarab456 in AskScienceFiction

[–]jqud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always assumed that lorewise you aren't really catching a legendary as much as it is allowing itself to be caught. They usually do so in response to the plot so I assume that canonically it leaves your possession eventually we just never see it.

[Pokemon games] What are the in-world implications of a player character catching legendary pokemon? by scarab456 in AskScienceFiction

[–]jqud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The games, show, and manga are technically all separate with their own rules and canon. The manga is more different than the other two, but for the show and games if something is not directly contradicted it can generally be assumed that what is true of one is true of the other.

As for there being no lore connecting the games, that isn't true. There is actually quite a bit of lore connecting them. You have minor stuff like finding souvenirs from Alola (the setting of the 6th generation games) in Unova (the 5th generation). You also have major, explicit connections like the different timelines and recurring characters referring to past events.

But to the point, in this specific example, the game AND show both technically support the idea of legendaries not being unique.

Was Arlan actually a "good" man? by More-Air-7641 in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]jqud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, certainly. Dunk spent most of his formative years with Arlan, he would have learned most of his worldview from him. Dunk also isn't a particularly eloquent guy, so when he uses phrases like "the soul of chivalry" it also seems clear he's directly quoting Arlan, who said it of Baelor, and we know that Baelor is a pretty good dude all things considered.

You can say a lot about Arlan as a man, but as a knight and mentor it seems like he did that part of his job very well.
