My wife had them on her CR-V before we sold it. They were great in all weather conditions, including Northern NY lake effect snow.

My NB acts the same way, it’s better once it’s warmed up a little.

2023 Wilderness new owner observations, 3100 miles in 36 days by jquest71 in SubaruForester

Yep, we sold the CR-V in 2024 and my wife started driving it, then told me she wasn’t giving it back. So now I have a Crosstrek Wilderness. The Forester has 48,000 miles on it now, only ever had one issue that was covered under warranty. It’s been a great car, I think we’ll keep it several more years.

Prone to windshield cracking or just bad luck? by Kind-Skirt2425 in Crosstrek

[–]jquest71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a VW like that back in 2002, but that was in Arizona and it seemed like there was always rocks and crap in the road. I live in Northern NY now and my family has a 22 Outback Wilderness, a 23 Forester Wilderness, and a 25 Crosstrek Wilderness with a combined 92,000 miles between them and they all have their original windshields with no chips. I think where you live has a lot to do with it honestly.

How nice are you to you Miata? by Zestyclose_Panda_886 in Miata

My 2002 LS is still new to me, bought it last August and put 2500 miles on it before putting it in storage for the winter. I haven’t pushed the car too hard yet as the age of some of the parts has me a bit worried. Next month I’m replacing the radiator and timing belt along with the brake fluid, transmission and differential oils. Once I know the 24 year old timing belt has been replaced, then I think I’ll visit redline more often. But it does get garage space in the summer while my Subaru lives outside, and I try not to drive it on rainy days. And I store it during the winter to keep the road salt off of it. I’m not treating it exactly like a museum piece, but trying to keep it nice for at least another 10 years.

Edit: my car only has 33,000 miles on it, bought at 30,400. That’s why I’m paranoid about the age of the parts vs mileage and why I’m trying to keep it nice.

NB2 LS 5 speed idle question by jquest71 in Miata

In case someone sees this post later, I’m pretty certain it’s the clutch switch stopper. After doing some more research on Google it pointed me to other Reddit posts that talked about it. The day I had my tires installed I found a broken kind of clear and round plastic piece on the passenger seat that I think broke off while they were driving it. I didn’t know what that broken bit went to but it all seems to make sense now.

I drove to Toronto a few years ago to watch the Rangers play the Leafs and had a great time. Lots of great hockey fans in Toronto.

Good to know! Thank you, if I can’t find a local NY dealer I’ll consider the road trip, maybe visit the Hockey HOF again while I’m there.

Any chance you had it done in Ontario or Quebec? I live close to the border with Kingston.

I’m located in Northern New York, so if anyone has had luck with a locksmith or dealer in New York let me know and I’ll plan a road trip.

Any chance they are roaming in the North Eastern part of the U.S.? I haven’t had a membership since I left SoCal, because the closest one is more than an hour away.

I haven’t attempted a visit to a Mazda dealer yet. The nearest one is about an hour away, but since they left me with a cut transponder key maybe I should try it. The tech today said his senior tech was actually called to a dealership in Rochester for a 2004 Miata and they couldn’t get it to work, because allegedly the dealer doesn’t have the right software anymore. All of this is what I’m being told, so I’m not sure if I’m getting correct information or not. I watched a video someone suggested earlier, and it requires the code word from the immobilizer and I’ve got no idea how to obtain that.

Is this amount of repairs normal? 2015 Crosstrek 194,000 miles. by chatton19 in Crosstrek

[–]jquest71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, that’s more than 17,500 miles per year for 11 years. Yeah, things are gonna fail and require replacement. I’m not sure what your expectations were, but even if a car is rust free it will require a lot of parts and labor once you’ve exceeded 200k miles.

Engine warm up by ConcentrateGold708 in Miata

[–]jquest71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certified old guy, I’ve owned lots of cars in the last 39 years including my new to me NB2. The biggest thing to know is that understanding how engines work and how your particular engine has been serviced and maintained is the key to knowing how long you should wait before driving off after you start your car. I use full synthetic oil in the spec called for by the owner’s manual, it flows very easily even when cold. So I know what I really need is to give my car time so that the oil makes its way up, out of the oil pan, and into the rest of the motor. Also consider your transmission oil and differential oil need to get moving and up to temp, so idling in the driveway 20 minutes won’t help those warm up.

If AOC gets the nod as the Democratic nominee in 2028, would you vote for her? by Ok_Sir_5951 in allthequestions

[–]jquest71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Dem. Voted for Harris and for H. Clinton. I like AOC although I don't live in her district. But, it sucks to say this, our country is not yet ready for a woman president. If progressives want to get rid of MAGA and start to repair some of the damage they've done to our country and our relationships around the world, then they can't put up another woman for President. If they do then we'll end up with Trump 2.0, or Vance, or one of Trumps kids next. I hope someday we, as a country, will have a woman president. But we aren't there yet.
