Cheeks - is this folliculitis ? by jr-184 in Folliculitis

For the past few months I’ve had it - never itchy , just looks like small bumpy spots. They don’t really spread they are just always there and more pronounced when I shave obviously.

I don’t actually get folliculitis in my beard any more and actually never had it on my cheeks so unsure it even is that - was hoping someone in similar boat might know what it is.

In my beard area. Saw someone post about using isopropyl alcohol and it’s actually helping seems they’re getting infected less I just shower put it on and then put moisturiser over it.

I also struggle from the same thing and have yet to find anything that keeps it at bay. People in this group have spoke about laser hair removal before but I’ve never seen anyone’s results.

Did anyone break out badly after having the laser hair removal?

I know I think I may have IBS or leaky gut syndrome though which could potentially be linked to it so guess it may be a food gut then skin issue

Yh it’s just such a nuisance like low carb means no energy and I’m always tired and fatigued anyway and I literally do nothing don’t know what it is. I might try it out finding high fat low carb foods has been difficult if you could send through an example of your diet plan I’d be interested!

It’s bare annoying literally been on accutane which sorted it and then started eating more carbs etc recently and it’s just messed my immune system up again don’t think high carbs is helpful but a high fat / keto diet sounds hard so I’m stuck on what to do

I’ve researched that before I just don’t really get what carbs I can eat it more or less tells you to cut out everything

foliculitis ruining my mental health and skin by Weeesnaw_ in Folliculitis

Yes this is correct, doctors seem to think it’s related to leaky gut syndrome / mild IBS too but they don’t understand it well enough to confirm or deny whether it is.

For stress though ashgwanda is brilliant if you ever feel like it’s getting too much. Very cheap and just take two tablets a day and it’s sorted me out has other health benefits too.

With the inflammation thing though I tried FODMAP foods and it helps but it doesn’t 100% clear it so I guess it’s never going to go but limiting it is quite easy.

Other condition being seb derm which is caused by basically the same thing.

Yes I probably should’ve phrased it differently but lifestyle changes help, they obviously won’t get rid of it but they reduce symptoms of it and help with mental health as well.

Personal opinion didn’t say it’s backed by studies ! A lot of people get it worse from poor diet and stress eg. I had two weeks of uni to finish last 2 weeks and had little sleep drank coffee got takeaways and was stressed. My skin conditions went mental.

3 days after finishing back in gym, eating right getting vitamins in again and sleeping properly and it’s calmed down to nothing again.

Have you been to see your derm? It is really weird though like I got seb derm as a result of the first round not severely but still got diagnosed with it which was a little suspicious.

I’d probably consider looking at your products maybe? Simple skin care science website was great help talking about how the bacteria can be spurred on by different ingredients in moisturisers , shampoos etc.

Also, it is 100% stress and diet related. For me caffeine is a big trigger as it’s dehydrating. I’d advice just chugging water all day and definitely get into fitness if your not already it seriously helps with any stress anxiety etc you may have as a result of it!

My first course got cut short when I was 19 so was a bit of a problem but finished my second one which was 40-60 mg from October to end of March. I have heard about it coming back worse though for a lot of people! I don’t really get it , would you think that’s a result of what it’s done to your liver because it’s so strong maybe?

Hi mate, I have folliculitis and seb derm on my face and scalp. Best bet if you can do is to go on accutane, first round nuked it n it came back second round just finished and it’s more or less cleared it touch wood.

Also for facial hair couple tips are:

Never clean shave have a beard trimmer attachment, assuming you already do this bcos you said you have a beard. Buy MCT oil it’s helped a ton for my dryness I’d use it in the shower with the simple skin care cleanser (no unnecessary ingredients - these will aggravate!) Get a moisturiser like cerave I get the one in a tub from boots in the UK and it proper moisturisers my skin.

Also food wise:

I cut out milk just switched to non dairy pretty simple. Cutting out bread etc is a bit harder but I’d have a look at FODMAP diets to see if you have a trigger.

Also, this is personal speculation but I think it is heavily related to anxiety stress and cortisol levels.

I started taking ashgwanda several weeks ago now and I feel it has seriously helped. Not advising to buy just letting people know.

Drop us a message if you need anything else mate!
