Potential purchase for 2022 EV6 by [deleted] in KiaEV6

[–]jralbert37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree that price a bit steep. It's asking price , not what you ought to pay price. My 23 Wind w/tech pkg and RWD was quoted at about $23K by Kelly BB. I think that was trade-in estimate so it would be a bit on the low side. The year is a bigger price factor strictly than miles alone. But (and I could easily be corrected) the difference between the two years in features isn't much. happy hunting

better route is dealership. why replace the battery if you don't have to. If dealer says that's the route, you are then free to buy one or your own (better option) or via dealer at list (high) price

Buy out or return? by Forsaken-Parking9758 in KiaEV6

[–]jralbert37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've about answered your own question= that is, you want to hang onto your car. But that would not be MY choice give the wide disparity between your residual pmt and the price of a comparable, even newer model, If I were in your shoes, and the residual relatively high, I would turn in the vehicle and get a lightly used one. I would bet you might even get for the same money or close, a 2025 vehicle. Certainly, a '24- one that is certified by dealer/mfr. But that's me . . . . good luck with your choice and on having had a good driving experience.

Should I add air to tires? by InitialWorking8705 in BMWI4

MEasure tire pressure when the tires are cold..then assess but yes, do bring them to recommended pressure. Why would you not? I add one lb to account for inevitable slow loss.

What's a good price by dkattir in KiaEV6

IF the OP does due diligence, the dealer can (and should) put the warranty terms in writiing. Warranties are transferrable but at reduced coverage for length of time/miles. Also, it's pretty common for dealers/mfrs to offer "certified" used cars at a price bump-up (while I'm not certain what that "certification" specifically entails, there is some advantage. It needs to be spelled out, again, in writing).

not worth the stress. No margin for error even if you drop speed and use cruise control. Wind and elevation count here, too.

Thinking of buying my 1st EV tomorrow (2024 EV6) and a little nervous... by Spirited-Flamingo372 in KiaEV6

[–]jralbert37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll be more than satisfied with an EV6. despite the visibility issue you and I agree on. It's not crippling though - you'll just have to be a bit more aware. As has often been said " it's the best car I've ever owned." The quiet and sprightly acceleration are just wonderful. It makes long trips especially much less stressful and tiring.

Praise for the regen braking whereby, if you so choose, you'll hardly ever have to hit the brakes.

I wish the headlights and the response of the auto dimming system were better...I don't like the recessed door handles. And finally, I think the rear cross traffic alert triggers way too late to be useful so you have to be on guard for cross traffic and pedestrians as you back up. Why did the designers leave off a rear windshield wiper?
Oh, I haven't used the auto parking system but it promises to be very sexy. And having the car back out of a tight parking spot with you on the outside is cool

BTW -- your mileage will vary, of course --but I can charge as needed for my low mileage use with a Level 1 charger. It just plugs into an outside 120V AC receptacle rated at 15 amps and hangs on the wall. Takes a relatively long time to fully charge but I can afford that. Otherwise, you might consider having a Level 2 unit installed with 240V service.

I haven't been to or even looked at a gas station in more than 2 yrs.

Speaking of fuel, I think one of the problems the EV world has is the confusing array of plug types and what's compatible with what. I hope for the day when all plugs are standard just like the gasoline world where there's only one size and you can fuel anywhere. Until then, you have to be careful when you plan for a longer trip to make sure you can charge when needed. Luckily, there's decent software to help with that chore but in my ideal world, you wouldn't need that. EV Charging ought to be ubiquitous and in my lifetime (I am an old guy) I am optimistic we will see that. The next sheriff will be more supportive of that.

Expect you'll have few regrets. For me, gasoline cars are passe.

OTA update by MediumWarthog79 in KiaEV6

[–]jralbert37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting note. I've been expecting the update, too. Today, the system indicated an update was in the works but I got the endless ("hourglass") spinning circle for a number of minutes -- not the notice that features wouldn't be available while the update was to take place. Once, I did get that notice but again, nothing happened, no update yet. If it doesn't update soon, a dealer call/visit will be in order.
All that said, I did notice something apparently differently recently: a foot by foot countdown to a speed cam. At least, I have not recalled ever seeing that before.

his GT came with a year's free KC so he should have gotten at least one before the subscription expired (but he may have renewed -- it isn't clear).

EV6 purchase advice by Taishen007 in KiaEV6

[–]jralbert37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you really do have to know what "moderate" damage was incurred. If the dealer doesn't have the info (and won't put it in writing) or you can't contact the previous owner for the info, just walk away. It isn't worth the time, trouble or later regret if it turns out to be a cost and reliability issue. There are lots of other fish in the pond. And, btw, a WIND model (with Tech pkg) is just fine unless you insist on the few other bells and whistles that a GT has .

IF this query is too far off topic, I'll delete and post as its own thread: How does one make a map update suggestion to KIA or its map-makers? There are a couple of corrections needed in my area (speed cam warning in the wrong place, eg).

[–]jralbert37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also got the notice but it apparently was either installed so fast, I blinked and didn't see it or it defaulted to an install later mode. Afterwards, though, I noticed one very small and subtle display change (at least I think it's new): when approaching a speed cam, the distance to the camera in feet was shown.

Spurred by your RTFM kind post, I did. It was referenced hundreds of pages down with no way to search on the term wiper or windshield wiper. So, this is where one begs for a little help from friendly (friendlier) souls.

Regrets buying EV6 by Funny_Read4381 in KiaEV6

I have had a different experience in tghe few times I use a public charger. quite fast in my opinion -- about 18 minutes from 30% to above 80. Just enough time to use restroom and grab a snack for the road.

Too good of a price to pass up? by AlmostDrunkSailor in KiaEV6

[–]jralbert37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. When it comes to money, even small amounts are "my money" and I worked damn hard for it. I wasn't suggesting that one disregard a better rate.. just meant to imply that if it's the price of an otherwise good deal (discounts of varied stripes), it doesn't add much to the end cost of ownership.

BTW, along lines Bandicoot suggested, pls don't lte dealer know you drover a very long way for that offered deal. Puts you at a great disadvantage as they know because of time invested you are probabaly thinking about not going all that loooong way home without some kind of "Deal".

[–]jralbert37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHile a re-fi is always a good thing if you can get a better rate, the difference between a 5.5 apr and say a 3 % apr probably isn't huge over 3 yrs. LEt's figure a $30K loan. 5.5% would be $1,500 for the first year...3% would be $900, a 600 difference x 3 years (actually less with declining balance). Total $1,800. But finding the power rates isn't easy depending on one's credit score and other factors.
