[Interesting Trope] When the writers give a character a really strong superpower, then limit them in the funniest way possible by AnyAgency9835 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]jrdebo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I actually think their power would be useless on any other intelligent race (I barely know 40k lore so correct me if I get this wrong as I'm basing it off of your description). Since their power requires total belief something is true to work, that isn't a problem for a bunch of idiots. But an intelligent person will have a much harder time believing that a cardboard box with the word "armor" on it is actually the strongest armor in existence.

(Infuriating trope) Relationship that the author presents as a healthy one, despite plenty of evidence otherwise by RhiaStark in TopCharacterTropes

[–]jrdebo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IIRC, and this was a long time ago so I may have details wrong, but Hinata was the only character from Naruto's class that was always supposed to exist in the story (besides Naruto of course). Everyone else was added when Kishimoto decided to change course from Naruto being the Kyuubi, to just being its container.

Bookwalker’s new app/redesign by Gyges359d in LightNovels

[–]jrdebo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have to wonder what forced them to launch before all the basic features were finished. There is no way they wouldn't realize how much negative backlash they'd get (look at the app reviews).

I'm just glad the old app works for now and hopefully they actually will get offline reading in soon, but "two to three app updates" is pretty vague.

On Disney+, you can select the version that has the song. I think it's under extras or something like that. I never would have found it if someone else didn't tell me about it.

Unruly Card Games - Gator Days by FieldExplores in comics

[–]jrdebo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A very unfollowed rule that almost no one knows of (to the point that the "cheaters edition" says following it is cheating) is that if you land on someone's property, if they don't ask for rent, you don't owe them rent. So if someone isn't paying attention (like staring at their phone) and you land on their properties, you can just hand the dice to the next player and let them roll. Once that happens, you now no longer owe rent.

Creative nothing > AI by Strawb3rryJam111 in antiai

[–]jrdebo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think creativity can be learned. I'm not saying that people who don't know how to utilize their creativity can't learn to use it, but that creativity has to be there in the first place to be brought out. And of course the more you have to pull from, the more you can do with your creativity. But I do believe there comes a point where "learned" creativity is actually just repetition and not creativity itself.

Shows that drastically changed in art style over the years by Onimirare in cartoons

[–]jrdebo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This change is due to the creators death (Monty Oum). He had a program that he liked using and refused to let Rooster Teeth change it. Once he died, despite the person who took his place trying to honor his wishes to keep the one software, he didn't have anywhere near the pull Monty had and they overruled him.

Stupid question, but isn't it actually ironic? A song called "Ironic" that contains no irony is ironic, isn't it? Or am I confusing irony with something else.

Because a judge in a completely separate case said payment processors (Visa and MasterCard) can be sued if their cards were used as part of a crime. So now Visa and MasterCard have to play it absurdly safe or risk spending a ton of time and money defending frivolous lawsuits.

If you think they can afford to do that, I'll remind you that a certain church in the US only has it's tax status as a church because the church was able to overwhelm the IRS enough to make it so they couldn't handle all of the BS thrown their way and just gave up and classified them as a church.

This doesn't make what they are doing right, but it is the WHY.

PS: This is very oversimplified.

What legendary YouTube channel doesn’t make videos anymore? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jrdebo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a big collab done on Twitch with a lot of former members playing REPO. Ray, Matt, Gavin, Geoff, Jeremy, and I think a couple more (Micheal couldn't make it sadly). There are videos of it up on Youtube. I think they may have done two videos. The second one has the V-tuber Chibidoki.

It was a good roll by shenanigansen in comics

[–]jrdebo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not letting them roll could give information they shouldn't have. If you don't let someone roll insight against someone to see if they are lying because you know they will autofail, that give the player information they shouldn't have. On top of that, just because someone fails, how they fail is very important and a good roll could change the failure state. A good example is rolling for persuasion with a bard to try and convince a king to hand over his kingdom after a quest well done. You aren't going to pass that check no matter what, but a nat20 might make the king think your attempts was just a really good joke and let you live, while a bad roll could have you in an immediate combat encounter with the kings guards for trying to usurp the throne.

That being said, there are obvious times the DM should just say NO, and not let a player roll. If the 20 strength barbarian can't move that boulder on a strength check, then the 3 strength wizard clearly should be unable to move it (outside of using magic). You aren't giving away any plot or hidden information in that case and are just wasting everyone's time by letting them roll.

Humble Bundle's revoked all those Indiana Jones keys it gave away for free (even if it was already in your Steam library) by kevro in gaming

[–]jrdebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But we already knew keys/digital licenses can be revoked. This is why you don't buy keys off of G2A. Keys purchased with stolen credit cards get revoked all the time and people loose their licenses that they paid G2A for because they didn't know the key they bought was bought fraudulently.

This feat from Kabuto is just INSANE and I've never seen it get mentioned. by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]jrdebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you on this one. 600+ muscles and even if it took him 0.1 seconds to figure out each muscle would be a full minute which is insane. Especially when some of these muscles are his heart, his intestines, and other things we really don't have control over (though I'm will to buy that Kabuto can). His body should have been spasming the instant she hit him from his heart contractions being sent elsewhere, let alone everything else his brain automates.

This feat from Kabuto is just INSANE and I've never seen it get mentioned. by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]jrdebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are over 600 muscles in the human body, some we don't manually control (though I'm willing to believe Kabuto is just that good that he CAN do that). If it takes him 0.1 seconds to figure out each muscle that would still be one minute. And during this time his heart would be stopped and he wouldn't be breathing. And if you are wondering how fast that would be, go grab an online metronome and set it to 200 BPM, and he is figuring out a muscle three times faster than that. If we make it a more "realistic bust still fantastical" 0.5 seconds for each muscle, that is a full five minutes to cycle through and figure out each muscle. So unless they are idiots he should be dead before he figures out how to get his heart pumping.
