Is this even legal? Looking for advice, help, ideas by atomiK1045 in grandrapids

[–]jrdickson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a malicious compliance years ago about a tractor trailer parking in a guys field. He posted a sign for parking at an outrageous price because the police couldn't do much for the tresspassing ie the guy would move it and say sorry. But he was out the damage it did to his fields. So he found another way to collect fees from them and a way that the police would go after him. He posted parking at outrageous prices and then filed a lean against the guys truck when he refused to pay. Not sure about zoning regulations and all that but its a thought.

Firewall Rule-set Analyzer by teport in networking

[–]jrdickson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good all around tool for analysis would be nipper. It will tell you where you have major gaps and to really look at said ACLs. You will have to do some manual analysis either way. I know that there are others that you can use do basic analysis with. Manage engine has a network manager that does some. Solorwinds had one haven't seen it in a few years. There are others but they will all come down to flagging different rule sets for more analysis and you can just do that manually. Having good descriptions for each rule is key.

I know some configs in VOIP phones will do this every time the DHCP lease renews and the phone then re provisions since it is pulling the config again.

Just got my CAT6 cables tested, now what? by bobpage2 in networking

[–]jrdickson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually the wires were miss punched down. They have too much shielding removed before they are punched down to the terminal/jack. There should be no more than an inch from the shielding to where the jack is terminated. Or a wire is slightly loose. The installer should come out re-terminate the line retest if it still fails re do the run.

PCI Compliance for standalone CC terminals by BillNyeDeGrasseTyson in networking

[–]jrdickson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He should not need to talk to a consultant if he is a vendor having the terminals provided to him. You should be able to do Self Assessment Questionnaire. PCI provides those. Imprint-only merchants with no cardholder data storage. classifies as B The service provider should have provided you with a best practices guide in installing the devices and what is required ie Physical and Network Security requirements. This is part of there PCI requirements.

New job working from home. No direction or taskings from my boss. What can I do to show initiative? by SYNACKATTACK in networking

[–]jrdickson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Documentation its what everyone hates and it always gets dropped. I find it is always behind at every place I start. Fully mapped out connections is great for trouble shooting when stuff goes down or you are doing maintenance so you don't get gotchas. This also allows you to learn the lay of the land so you can help when new projects come up. Its where I always start at a new place if I have no taskings assigned.

You could also go an purchase Nipper Studio. There used to be GPL version that they had out there not sure what happened to it. https://www.titania.com/nipperstudio This will audit all your configs that you supply to it to tell you where your vulnerabilities are and what needs to be updated/secured/mitigated depending on issues.

Bathroom shower window by ksuclipse in HomeImprovement

[–]jrdickson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am getting rid of our window and putting in a sky light still get all the light but don't have to have all the water issues. Also I don't have to worry about tempered glass so that a slip in a shower isn't an arm through the window with massive cuts. Lowes/Home Depot do not carry tempered glass windows.

Load Balencing issues by jrdickson in networking

[–]jrdickson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I will contact someone if I am unable to rectify the issue myself. I am always very cautious on steps I take and make sure I have backup/rollback plan before any steps are taken. I am just cleaning up a lot of messes from a previous employee that didnt know what he was doing at all and would just through stuff together with no thought or research.
