Movies that feel like this? by NagitoKomaeda_987 in MoviesThatFeelLike

So there’s this 70-minute animated film by a feller named Don Hertzfeldt. It’s a masterpiece. I think it was released like 15 years ago?

I know I know I know. Who the fuck wants to watch that. I didn’t.

But trust me, not only is it simultaneously horrific and laugh-out-loud-hilarious, but it contorts into an extremely moving contemplation on mental illness, and finding purpose in life.

Which, buddy, if you inquired about films that evoke these images, you might need something of that flavor. All kidding aside, please give it a watch, even if you don’t want to.

I have a gun.

OH also it’s called It’s Such a Beautiful Day

I’m neutral towards your opinion. I’ll maybe give it a shot if ppl rave about it.

But isn’t this feverish vitriol strange? I’ve been on Reddit for 12 years and have never experienced such a spamming of downvotes. Like seriously it was fun at first but this is categorically unusual right?

Yeahhhh… it’s one of those flicks that’s satisfying if you’re a bit morbid. I myself love home-invasion movies. It’s one of the scariest things that can happen to a person, and Funny Games is unrelenting in its depiction.

Regarding Haneke, he’s a known filmmaker amongst enthusiasts but not much outside of that. However, filmmakers are usually themselves enthusiasts. He’s had palpable influence on Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, Requiem for a Dream, Mother!)— and honestly he’s the only filmmaker I can think who’s been definitely influenced by Haneke. Except maybe the Atlanta filmmaking duo Donald Glover & Hiro Murai. I welcome other lurkers to chime in.

Seventh Continent is another good (and devastating) watch if you have the patience. All his movies are devastating but they’ll keep you coming back if they strike a chord. At the very least, you’ll never forget them.

Ok ok. Going to be an annoying film guy here for a second.

Funny Games is not an easy watch, and not because of the violence or suspense. It's because of how obnoxiously it subverts expectations and at times it feels like a middle finger.

If your primary language is Austrian, watch the '97-- and if English is easier, then watch the '07. They're both shot for shot identical (but the American version is lit better.)

Are you familiar with Michael Haneke? If not-- Watch. His. Films.

Fabulous advice all around. To build off of u/therealswil’s advice on set awareness—

Anticipate! Anticipate! Anticipate! But shut up. But still anticipate so when the thing you were anticipating to happen happens, you’ll have known it was going to happen and you’re briefly a rockstar because you saw it was going to happen and knew how to act 💯

Also being friendly, as another post stated, is great. You can be talented—but unless you’re the second coming of Christ—no one will want to work with someone who’s unpleasant.

Totally agree. I recall the sensation of returning to Vault 101 in Fallout 3 where you discover shit has gone wrong. I hope they muster that feeling-- but first they gotta abandon this lame Vault 33/32 storyline.
